66-fan case mod exemplifies overkill
We've seen some pretty questionable case mods involving additional fans, but this one will likely hold top honors until something even more extravagant comes around. The "Super Cooler" straps a grand total of 66 fans around the tower, which probably doesn't do a whole lot of good when all's said and done. Truth be told, we've all ideas that this thing was created more so for people to gawk at than to actually enable users to run uber-overclocked CPUs and graphics cards without the use of water, but whatever the case, it's an interesting (if not cacophonic) take on cooling. Hit the read link for lots more images, and keep those fingers a safe distance away, k?

Wow - that's really cool!

no it's not. All those stupid fans will just work against each other. the only things it will do are waste energy and make a bunch of noise. This shouldn't have even been posted it's so stupid. I can cool my case better with a $10 box fan.
John B @ Nov 25th 2007 8:30PM
@BBT:
Uh, and exactly WHY would the fans be working against each other? The front fans and left side fans could pull air into the case; the top, right, and rear fans could push the air out. This would work incredibly well and would most certainly keep the case cool. Unfortunately, the pictures don't have enough clarity to determine if that's what's happening.
Jons @ Nov 25th 2007 8:55AM
Hm, this blows
Dan @ Nov 25th 2007 9:45AM
Some must suck.
danny @ Nov 25th 2007 2:53PM
I think the word is "cacophonous" not cacophonic.
It's Latin, not Greek.
b. @ Dec 1st 2007 10:24PM
While it should in fact be cacophonous, it is a Greek word, not Latin.
kei @ Nov 25th 2007 8:57AM
I can see the next one would be using LED light case fans.....
Andrew @ Nov 25th 2007 9:03AM
But will it fly?
Jagannath A @ Nov 25th 2007 9:29AM
also it may not blend but will definitely sound like a blender :D
Tom Reinke @ Nov 25th 2007 1:45PM
I think a better question would be to ask
"Will it blend?"
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Nov 25th 2007 6:46PM
Better yet, put a skirt around the bottom and make it a hover craft.
Generic @ Nov 26th 2007 4:28AM
(for those who don't get it, this is a joke) :p
idiots, what does this thig look like, it is an all directional hover-craft...
Ricardo @ Nov 25th 2007 9:08AM
This probably creates so much turbulence inside that it will do more harm than good.
It must also be hard inserting a DVD without losing a finger or two.
Well, at least it must be a good mosquito killer.
jamma @ Nov 25th 2007 10:41AM
what I want to know is if it crashes how do you hold the off button for 5 SECONDS?!
ethana2 @ Nov 25th 2007 6:56PM
Where did you get the idea that turbulence in cooling is a bad thing? The point of the flowing air is to cool, not to go as fast as possible. Turbulence is an aid to this.
Naturally, the number of fans aiming in and out would be equal. The guy who made this may be a little excited, but I don't think he's an idiot.
NineT9 @ Nov 25th 2007 9:10AM
if a computer had Gonorrhea thats what it would look like
sdjavan @ Nov 25th 2007 9:25AM
I wonder how big the PS must be to keep all those fans running. I also question the effectiveness of having all the fans blow....if there's enough turbulence then it's all worthless.
euclid @ Nov 25th 2007 9:27AM
I'll take that with me on my trip to India.
chi @ Nov 25th 2007 10:56AM
gotta keep cool :0
Neebs @ Nov 25th 2007 9:31AM
If you throw things inside, will it blend?
rcgcfn @ Nov 25th 2007 1:25PM
no . . . it will hover . . .
kev @ Nov 25th 2007 9:33AM
Haven't we seen this before? This isn't a new concept...

Here, and it's been put on Slashdot and a bunch of other sites too:

The first comment to the Slashdot article is interesting.

I remember seeing this over a year ago via StumbleUpon.

I thought this was familiar...it's over 2 years old! And what's really great is not a single blog posting this today links to the original source. WEB TWO POINT OH!

This configuration is yet another upgrade recommended for running Vista.
Josh @ Nov 25th 2007 3:18PM
I think you meant vista home basic, ultimate requires 132 fans. Does no one read the minimum requirements anymore?
jamma @ Nov 25th 2007 10:22AM
Thisis what happens to people after their laptops explode....damn you Sony :p
Phil Perman @ Nov 25th 2007 10:25AM
For anyone interested an another all fan case, look at this mini-itx one. Much the same idea as the one above, but far better looking, neater and not as stupidly big

darkstar @ Nov 25th 2007 11:02AM
interesting mod. but it looks ugly as sin
gregger @ Nov 25th 2007 11:03AM
Now that's a venti case mod!
Tallest Skil @ Nov 25th 2007 11:24AM
If you meant that as a pun, you're amazing. (Venti... vent... fan... get it?)
kev @ Nov 25th 2007 12:42PM
Not to mention the Starbucks size...
gregger @ Nov 25th 2007 12:55PM
Exactly! You guys rock!
I admit that I have dabbled in the dark arts of punning. Some may say that puns are the lowest form of humor, but if that's true, then why don't more people get them?
JoeC33 @ Nov 25th 2007 11:07AM
interesting
jason @ Nov 25th 2007 11:12AM
i hate to see this in a month with all the dust bunnies . this is one loud case
jc @ Nov 25th 2007 11:19AM
Well i guess hes not to worried about dust getting all over inside is he?
durgesh @ Nov 25th 2007 11:38AM
I have 9 fans for my cabinet..
But this is gross :P
well the 66 fans wont create any tubulence if mounted properly, taking into account the air flow.
wid equal exhaust and intake fans rotating at the same rate place symmetrically wont cause any turbulence..
Tavis Veighey @ Nov 25th 2007 12:27PM
If the fans were all properly mounted maybe... However using Cable Ties to hold it together... Hardly the most secure agenst vibrations.
lotzosushi @ Nov 25th 2007 11:55AM
Hmm....how do I turn this thing on--OWWWMYFINGERITBLEEDS....
matt @ Nov 25th 2007 12:08PM
can you imagine the dust that builds up in that thing!
