Sony announces PSP Extended Life Battery Kit
Some three years ago, everyone and their PSP-lovin' cousin was moaning about the miserable battery life of Sony's PlayStation Portable, and while the outfit did unveil the Stamina Battery for the original PSP-1000, we're quite pleased to see an extended pack being offered up for it and the new, oh-so-slim PSP-2000. Apparently, the simply-titled Extended Life Battery Kit will consist of a 2,200 mAh battery pack that offers 20-percent more life on the older units and a whopping 80-percent more life on the slims. Additionally, two custom covers (Piano Black and Ice Silver) will be included to conceal the additional bulge, and those who just can't put their PSP down long enough to find an AC outlet can snatch this up for $44.99 in mid-December.

For the moment, this narrows our choices to Sony or Play-Asia (for the generic version): Easy to manufacture, easier still to overcharge.
I do like the silver option, but my color-coordinated battery cover joy isn't worth fifty bills or so (factoring in shipping, fondling, tax, and training fees for the customer service specialists who assisted me in choosing).

This kinda makes me sad because I have the starwars PSP and If I want more battery life I would have to switch off the Darth Vader Cover... tough choice... :'(
metal @ Nov 28th 2007 1:57AM
but no, really, does darth vader really enhance your gaming experience that much?
jeremy @ Nov 29th 2007 3:00PM
Yeah, I bought the starwars PSP just because of the vader logo.... Kind of irritating that now I have to remove the piece that made the system unique to me...
very irritating.....

Hmm, I think Sony announced this after it had already been available many places (Walmart, Best Buy, etc. all seem to have it). I've been using my Datel X2 for a couple years now with great success and really like it. I mainly just use it as a backup for long flights, because the hump on the back makes it difficult to lean against a seatback to watch a movie.

You can already add the PSP extra power battery, it's a bit tight (ie it will not come out without a fight, but you have to remove the battery cover (which i do as the battery on my devices always run out even when machine isn't used, which doesn't happen on the DS!!!)
aj @ Nov 28th 2007 4:27AM
I was talking about the old psp batteries (inc extra powered variety) on the psp slim/lite!
James Ollier @ Nov 28th 2007 6:06AM
These new batteries are the same size as the old phat batteries, but they hold 2200mAh instead of 1800mAh, thats over 20% more juice
aj @ Nov 28th 2007 7:32AM
Sorry but you are wrong!
new S&L PSP is 1200mAh
Old PSP Std Battery is 1800mAh
Old PSP Extd Battery is 2200mAH
I have all of them in front of me, the old extended and std psp (1800) all fit in the slim without a cover and they are a very tight fit

No white cover included? So not only do Star Wars edition PSP owners have to swap off Darth Vader (the only SW-themed piece) if they want to use the extended battery, but they have to replace him with a silver or black panel?
tekdroid @ Nov 28th 2007 9:46AM
i guess the same thing can be said about the Simpsons-themed yellow one?
NG @ Nov 28th 2007 9:50AM
?????? i have been using that 3.6V for like half a year now
only costed like £12 quid
builder1 @ Nov 28th 2007 12:02PM
Can we use these to make Pandora's Battery to do the unbrick?
