eBayer wants $15000 for Darth Vader Wii
Yeah, just about anything gets ratcheted up a couple levels on the fantasmical scale if Darth Vader makes a cameo, but seriously, $15,000 for a Dark Side Wii? To be frank, this auction has spoof written all over it, but whatever the case, redferndesign is offering up a "limited edition" (one of four, supposedly) Wii system with a red CD input LED, an all black motif, Darth Vader imprinted on the side and a pair of black Wiimotes / nunchucks. Also of note, the Wiimote pictured must be one of the rarest ever, particularly when you consider the previously nonexistent "x" and "y" buttons and the rectangular power switch. Even if the console (alone) is indeed modded up, there's no way anyone in their right mind will cough up that much coin, but why not hit the read link and have a laugh at his / her expense?
Update: Just as we suspected, this one's a fake -- but humorous, nonetheless.

oh yeah why use 15k to buy something useful like idk...maybe about 40 wii's? yeah. i thought so.
Bobs @ Dec 8th 2007 11:37PM
Or a WII, PS3, xbox 360, a 50" plasma with 7.1 surround sound sterio, and possibly a top of the line computer.
Blackstar @ Dec 9th 2007 1:47AM
Guys, it's really simple. He is from Texas and does not understand the value of the decimal point. It's that simple.
Joe Templeman @ Dec 9th 2007 10:49AM
Also being from texas, he hasnt realised that no one will buy a normal Wii for $1299!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190181244342
Idiot.
Flashpoint @ Dec 9th 2007 10:55AM
I don't even like Star Wars that much but I must say, THIS SHIT IS HOT.
If Nintendo and SONY can sell Star Wars themed merchandise, I could see myself buying this Wii for a maximum of $200
NovaLand @ Dec 9th 2007 10:58AM
Is an eBayer an Internet member from Freistaat Bayern?
rv @ Dec 9th 2007 4:41PM
Fake item aside, that is a very sweet looking wii.
BrettB @ Dec 8th 2007 11:36PM
Um,something makes me think this guy might be contacted by Mr. Lucas' lawyers pretty soon. I like the look, but I'm doubting this thing was properly licensed.
ByronGman @ Dec 9th 2007 12:00AM
If you read the description, you will realize this is not a mod, but any apparently never released promotional item.
Considering that, I doubt this guy could get sued.
Ron Hands @ Dec 8th 2007 11:37PM
The way George looks after his Star Wars licenses referndesign better have their paper work in order since they'll probably get suied.
Derek @ Dec 9th 2007 12:09AM
suied?
Ryan Trevisol @ Dec 9th 2007 12:13AM
Uh-huh, as in CHOP suied. When Nintendo and Lucasarts come down on you, you end up in a trapezoidal paper box, my friend.
Scabies @ Dec 8th 2007 11:39PM
Unleash the Force! I've been looking forward to this game since I heard about it!
...like just now!

Skor @ Dec 8th 2007 11:45PM
I especially like the ommision for the built in speaker for the wiimote. I'd want a prototype wiimote, but I wouldn't pay 1500 for a prototype wii. No thanks.
Garst @ Dec 9th 2007 4:00AM
You left out a "0" at the end of your price. Also, let's take note that the remote does look wider than the present one.
chainofcommand02 @ Dec 8th 2007 11:53PM
Would that be called the Darth Wii?
And take a look at what he's sold in the past: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190160799697

He is selling a Wii and 2 games for $1299. He is nuckin futs!
LC @ Dec 8th 2007 11:58PM
If the $15000 price tag wasn't enough, its fake.
The Wii-Mote that is shown in the picture is the old Wii-Mote (Never released) which lacked a speaker, and had 1 and 2 as the lower buttons.
Yankees368 @ Dec 9th 2007 12:02AM
This could simply be a prototype system to promote the game/wii. This could very well be real.
Eh @ Dec 9th 2007 1:42AM
He just photoshopped the official "revolution" e3 press shots. Theres nothing real about this.
Ben Kenobi @ Dec 9th 2007 12:03AM
The Force is strong with that one.
thepumpkingdom @ Dec 9th 2007 12:07AM
did no one see what else this freak sold?

chainofcommand02 @ Dec 9th 2007 12:08AM
Is there an echo in here?
mike @ Dec 9th 2007 12:39AM
He is not a freak. The people that buy from him are freaks
Alex M @ Dec 9th 2007 12:10AM
and hes asking 1200 for a wii with zelda, mario, a 2gb card and a few accessories. and if he gets a buyer for these things...you get the idea.
Alex @ Dec 9th 2007 12:22AM
Ironically It doesn't even come with any Star Wars related games......
Daniel H @ Dec 9th 2007 10:05AM
If it did, he'd add another $5,000 to the cost.
Taylor @ Dec 9th 2007 12:23AM
It'd be nice if he showed a picture of the unit on its own on his table "in the real world", not with the white background of Wii Promotional Pictures world.
That would make it seem more real to me.
Darkest Daze @ Dec 9th 2007 4:18AM
It's funny, when my dad started using Ebay, he made a whole camera box to make the stuff look like stock photos with good lighting. I told him not to do that because everyone would assume you just pulled a pic off the internet and they'd feel it's not the actual item. Needless to say, the item didn't sell, even for a good price.
JosephMohmed @ Dec 9th 2007 12:27AM
You can get up to $25 back using the eBay MasterCard, and you get free shipping. So it's really only about $14,950, which isn't that bad.
Will @ Dec 9th 2007 3:43AM
Its not much more than a standard wii these days...
Log @ Dec 9th 2007 12:31AM
This coming from the same guy who's selling a Wii for $1300 dollars...
holycow @ Dec 9th 2007 12:41AM
ridiculous!
skhawaja @ Dec 9th 2007 12:50AM
Thanks for pointing out this one, but I would rather give some attention to ANOTHER item this person has for sale:
The $1299 dollar Wii System with the INCLUDED 5 Wii Sports games (OMG!), plus Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, seriously though, keep on refreshing this listing's page to show the counter cranking way up but no bids.
If someone is desperate enough to buy the Star Wars version - please let them, it's one thing to have original movie items, but branded products, like those USB drives, don't really carry the weight.
I would rather spend the $15,000 on clear coating or powder coating my new Wii and then have a side plate showing me fighting Darth Vader to the death!
Now that is something worth $15,000 :] bonus points if Mr Lucas autographs it for you, and you get to shake his hand while getting photographed!
vdogg89 @ Dec 9th 2007 12:51AM
this is obviously fake. why would this guy have 2 officially licensed wii's made by lucasarts.
Allister @ Dec 9th 2007 1:00AM
You can see a picture of the prototype wiimote with the square power button here:
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41612000/jpg/_41612660_i_8098203.jpg
Juaquin @ Dec 9th 2007 3:17AM
I like the colors/finish on those Wiimotes - hope they release something like that.
Chris @ Dec 9th 2007 1:03AM
Why does the read link go to technabob? Technabob just links to gamesniped, which finally has a link to the eBay page. Is it that hard to just link to the auction?
Tim @ Dec 9th 2007 2:45AM
Maybe you could try clicking on the picture of the Wii. Is it that hard to use your brain?
Chris @ Dec 9th 2007 4:01AM
D'oh. And the read link goes to the auction. I sure look like a jackass now. I'm just going to go stand in the corner.
alex @ Dec 9th 2007 1:19AM
I've seen something similar a few times before, but here's one that I don't ever recall being confirmed as real or a fake. Do any of you know?
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/whatupdowbitch/kittyxbox.jpg
Xbox Tech @ Dec 9th 2007 2:19AM
Fake. Sanrio has not licensed its material for use by Microsoft, at least I haven't seen any mention of anything of the sort in our support databases
Geoffrey Sperl @ Dec 9th 2007 2:33AM
Fake on the 360 side, but there was a supposedly official Hello Kitty Xbox, limited to 550 units, in Singapore back in 2005 (if you bought one of a select few Samsung TVs):
http://www.engadget.com/2005/04/01/hello-kitty-invades-the-xbox/
I'm not sure if it's truly legit, but CNet thought it was.
If you search eBay you'll find a skin or two for the 360.
billedluh @ Dec 9th 2007 1:36AM
it says that it's New In Box. The reason he's asking so much is because this is actually a one of a kind FACTORY darth vaader theme'd wii. At the beginning all of the wii's were going to look like this. Then nintendo hired lawyers, and they thought it was a bad idea.
billedluh @ Dec 9th 2007 1:36AM
(this also explains the square power buttons.)
Chino B @ Dec 9th 2007 2:08AM
"Wii will not buy"
Alex @ Dec 9th 2007 1:40AM
Wouldn't it be much cheaper to get someone to mod your Wii and Wiimote to look just like that?
Ryan @ Dec 9th 2007 2:23AM
$15,000.00 eh? I thought i would right it out like that to just show how ridiculous that seems. lol, i love the note under the price on the site: "Up to $25 back with ebay mastercard."
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 2:28AM
Well since they go for star-wars fanatics I'm guessing it's for confused but very adult people seeing how old star wars is, possible the kind that is into antique sale/resale or quaint doctors that make so much they lost track of what to do with it..
And with a potential ebay audience of perhaps 700 million people you might find 4 that are daft enough.
Ethan @ Dec 9th 2007 2:57AM
Wow. $15k at stake and they shopped the wrong controller.
