Ideazon's Reaper Edge gaming mouse gets reviewed
It's been over a year since Ideazon threw its Reaper into the totally saturated gaming mouse market, but now that the Reaper Edge has arrived to challenge the revived SideWinder, Razer Lachesis and Saitek Cyborg (to name just a few), it seems suitable to see how it stacks up. The folks over at ExtremeTech were able to wrap their hands around said device, and the long and short of it is that it's a real competitor. Gamers looking for a new mouse should probably put Ideazon on their short list, as what it lacks in brand appeal it more than makes up for in the design and performance departments. Reviewers praised the "real rubber thumb grip," intelligently placed side buttons and relatively low price tag ($69.99 MSRP), but did note that the bundled software wasn't as robust as they would've liked. Still, the Reaper Edge seemed to have quite a bit going for it, but feel free to dive into the full review below if you're still skeptical.

The G9 has the Microgear scroll wheel, the Sidewinder similar shape, more buttons and Lachesis more speed. I'm sure it's not a bad mouse, but it's not all that exciting.

"relatively low price tag ($69.99 MSRP)"
I'm guessing bill gates wrote this bit? or warren buffet?
Jerry Sung @ Dec 9th 2007 3:40AM
HAHA exactly what went through my mind
Bobs @ Dec 9th 2007 2:38AM
If you can still find it, a cheeper gaming mouse thats very good is the 05 model of the G5, the big orange one. the blue one feels like cheep plastic, and generally sucks in quality. i had my G5 break down and they sent me a new G5 07 model, and they must have tried to cut costs or something because the new G5 and G15s suck total ass compared to the 05 versions.
This looks like the exact opposite of the razer mouse, all balled up. cant really say i dont like it, as ive never used one, but it looks too hard to use the way i use my mouse in FPS games
Pretol @ Dec 9th 2007 12:21PM
I have a g5 mouse, I couldn't use it as gaming mouse... it's WAY TOO HEAVY with all the weights removed (I even took the TRAY out). Both Fatal1ty 2020 and RAZR diamondback are MUCH lighter and more fluid. I use g5 as office mouse on my laptop.
Juaquin @ Dec 9th 2007 3:13AM
What's up with all the fugly mice lately - Boomslang anyone? I'm keeping my slick Razer Diamondback for now.
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 5:02AM
I think the look is sort of interesting, albeit very much like a sneaker. Perhaps nike will make some mice too soon?
Michael LaFramboise @ Dec 9th 2007 1:02PM
What? you mean your Razer Diamondback looks good? I for one thing Razer mice are some of the ugliest ones out there... but hell, guess its just a matter of opinion- I'll be sticking w/ my MX Revolution :)

Hmm, if only Reaper Edge was switched to Edge Reaper, then it would sound awesome
Fesh @ Dec 9th 2007 9:33AM
That looks, IDENTICAL to the best-buy 'rocketfist' bluetooth desktop mouse.. just different colors.
SBM_from_LA @ Dec 9th 2007 10:31AM
If only someone would make a good "gaming" mouse for us Left-handed people.
Pretol @ Dec 9th 2007 12:24PM
it's called razr diamondback (or many other razr models). They're the original gaming mouse manufacturer, and they're still BEST MOUSE FOR FPS...
SBM_from_LA @ Dec 9th 2007 6:30PM
Ummm...dude... I HAVE A RAZOR DIAMONDBACK mouse... it's not that great... it's it's "NOT" specifically made for a left-handed person... it's one of those mice that's made to fit in BOTH HANDS... I said in my comments "If only someone would make a gaming mouse FOR A LEFT-HANDED person". meaning JUST FOR LEFTIES... Thanks for your comment, but you mistook what I said.
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Dec 10th 2007 1:17AM
Gaming mouse is primarily marketing speak. Almost any optical mouse can be used successfully as a gaming mouse. Logitech already makes a left handed LASER mouse with a respectable DPI.

js @ Dec 9th 2007 11:41AM
Mighty mouse is better than this piece of crap.
Jeff @ Dec 9th 2007 11:54AM
Why does it have a sticker that just says "DPI"?
erhan @ Dec 10th 2007 12:39AM
Because if you look below it, you can see the L.E.D's for it. Meaning that the LEDs represent what DPI setting it is on.
The G7 is the same but DPI is written so small people dont notice it.
** only down side, it does not appear to be a buttun to control the DPI on the fly like logitech.
soldierx40k @ Dec 14th 2007 3:40PM
It's not a sticker. It's a button for switching the DPI. On the first page of the review...
toppgun @ Dec 9th 2007 12:23PM
you can pry my mx510 from my cold, dead hands
//I have 1 spare manufactured at the same time just incase it breaks.
paul34 @ Dec 9th 2007 1:19PM
haha woohoo! MX510 users unite. =D
Yea, I've used mine quite a bit. The black paint from the "Logitech" logo is pretty worn, only the middle bit remains. Looks bad, but the mouse still works like day 1.
n3rd @ Dec 9th 2007 1:50PM
my mx510 is so worn, the texturedish black plastic on the sides are all worn to a mirror finish now
coffee @ Dec 9th 2007 5:59PM
I'll second that. I bought my son an MX518, and then bought myself a Razer Copperhead, but I'm back to my 510 now. It's just got a perfect feel.
Pretol @ Dec 9th 2007 12:28PM
most Mac users are like: "I have a mouse, it's a see-through oval soap holder, and it works just fine, because Steve said it does"
Greg @ Dec 9th 2007 2:02PM
Except not really. I use what is possibly the best mouse ever made, the beige Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer, but I can see how you could make that mistake, especially when the desired result is flaming / attention.
Pretol @ Dec 9th 2007 2:06PM
Most of these gaming mice have no driver support for Mac, and that's a fact. So have fun switching from soapbar to the MS MonsterBloat mouse.
phlavor @ Dec 9th 2007 7:26PM
ugh. I hate comments like this. I've been a Macintosh user since there was such a thing and I've been rocking a Boomslang for years. USB Overdrive maps my buttons out and has done for so long that I forget it's installed.
Pretol @ Dec 9th 2007 8:17PM
Generic driver/software support is what you get when you don't have actual drivers/software. How well that generic package supports your hardware is a different story.
Sinned @ Dec 16th 2007 2:06AM
Lets hear it for the oldschool gamers, those of us who have been using the MX510, and MX518 for the last 5-6 yrs, only thing I ever had to do was reinstall my second set of mice feet, so what if the paint is wore off the side buttons and Logitech logo is just a silver circle with a little bit of black paint on it, it pwns nicer now than it did 5 yrs ago when I opened it on christmas day.
