GumEase dental mouthpiece numbs without needles
Next time you go to the dentist for some dreadfully painful procedure, you may have the option of eschewing that Novocaine-bearing needle for a flexible dental mouthpiece that turns out the lights on your maxillofacial nerves. Developed by Laguna Hills-based BioMedDevice Limited, and recently approved by the FDA, the so-called gumEase uses no conventional anesthetics, instead relying on cryoanesthesia: basically, the freezer-stored device chills your mouth into numbness. One application of gumEase, which lasts up to 20 minutes, is said to relieve 90% of a patient's pain within two to three minutes -- and to prove it, the manufacturer has produced a rather graphic video depicting a hypodermic-free tooth extraction, which you can watch at your own risk after the break. With products such as this one and the RelaxView HMD seemingly making dental visits more pleasant than ever before, we may actually have to review our policy of only making appointments during leap years.

I feel bad for what you have gone through at the dentist....
But you may want to try brushing your teeth.
Don't feel bad for me, I don't. I brush and floss and rinse as well as anyone. My wife, on the other hand, hardly takes care of her teeth the never has a cavity, gum disease, or tartar. So, that pretty much shows me that it's not about brushing. I spent over 30 seconds in each crack today flossing. Will it matter? no.
I'd rather go to the dentist than get my haircut. So, I'm fine with it. In fact, the fake teeth I have from having fun/living life and breaking my teeth out I would not trade. It taught me not to fear pain or physical harm for one thing. The ceramic and silver crowns are better than real. They do not dull, and they are very sharp, good incisors. I wish all my teeth could be of that material.
JUST BRUSH YOUR TEETH AND horribly painful procedures like root canals wont have to be preformed on you
That's complete bullsh*t. I brush 3 times a day, floss daily AND use mouthwash. I've still had 8 cavities (one they had to drill off 80%) 2 root canals over the last 10 years. I know other people who say they brush only 1 time a day, never floss and rarely go to the dentist for cleanings and they haven't had a single cavity.
Some of us unfortunately suffer from weak enamel. Although i brush my teeth twice a day i still get cavities. So not all dental problems are associated with non brushing.
You know, we live in a drug generation. People have become so
habituated to drugs that they resist more sophisticated
alternatives. Heck, they resist all alternatives. Just research
the current situation with major drug resistant bacteria.
Patients just insisted on antibiotics even for conditions they
wouldn't help, like viruses. It is always preferable to have a
non-invasive and completely safe medical/dental procedure than
one which is invasive and does carry a potential for harm. No
one who responded apparently is aware of the controversy over
these injected local anesthetics concerning the preservatives
and other issues. If you were, you'd be demanding this from your
dentist. I'm going to request it of my dentist and go for it.
I happen to be an RN in the medical field.
I have another thought on this. My dogs always
require general anesthesia for dental cleaning
because they are hyper-active. That is a heavy
risk as they age plus an expense of hundreds of
dollars. I hope that the maker of this product
considers the domestic animal realm for future
product development. I would much prefer my
dogs to have a mild sedative and this type of
product than anything else. Thanks.
This aint gonna do shit for a lot of procedures short of a basic filling. Root canal anyone?? Yeah, most times the dentist has to manually shoot novocain into the tooth nerve's chamber to make the pain stop. Show me this thing in that situation & I'll show you my middle finger, since my mouth will be full of crap preventing me to speak.
As always in research the money counters always want to know about how many will be served. With animals I can tell you from personal knowledge, this device and its' cousins can be used with animals. One of the problems with anim als is that they cannot respond to a "Faces of Feelings " chart.
