The newly announced $300,
2G Surf ASUS Eee PC is now available on-line and in color. Twas
always meant to be, only we weren't expecting them to pop for another month. Since the previous models were only available in black (the absorption of all colors) and white (the reflection of all colors), these are technically the first Eees to feature color -- fancy blush pink, sky blue, and lush green. In stock and ready for delivery by that chubby man who's fond of children.

Does nobody make transparent cases any more?
Jesse @ Dec 20th 2007 2:58AM
IMHO transparency is a lame gimmick used to draw in the less technical of us into glorifying a product as being more advanced then it really is due to it's visible PCB.
Jesse @ Dec 20th 2007 2:59AM
On top of that it just looks plain ugly ;)
Richard Lai @ Dec 20th 2007 3:06AM
Jesse: and you're saying you don't appreciate the technology we have these days? Besides, if people like transparent cases (that counts you out of course), then it wouldn't be a gimmick but a feature. I like it because the internal can make an interesting appearance. See? It's inner beauty mate. ;)
Jesse @ Dec 20th 2007 3:56AM
I don't mean to be a dick but seriously, as someone who works in a datacenter I don't tend to see server internals (or any other PCB) as beautiful.
Nestandi @ Dec 20th 2007 4:21AM
Yeah, transparency would be just perfect :)
Richard Lai @ Dec 20th 2007 7:00AM
Jesse: I feel your pain now, but you must remember that the EEE PC will not have many cables inside it, unlike the server boxes.
Tell you what: perhaps you would fancy a gold-plated version? Forget about the cost, just say you want it. We all do at some point in life. ;)
Wwhat @ Dec 20th 2007 9:06AM
How about 'legacy' applesque semi-transparant colors then?
But that might get too costly if you want it sturdy enough.
Ryan @ Dec 20th 2007 2:15AM
Why must they be in Easter Colors? I want a chocolate bunny NOW!
Jason Staten @ Dec 20th 2007 2:21AM
DO WANT!
Jason Staten @ Dec 20th 2007 2:34AM
MOAR!!!

ah, now I remember the immortal words: "who ever heard of a skinny santa? Eat papa, eat." Post updated.

If only they weren't candy colored
Onime No Garou @ Dec 20th 2007 2:50AM
I might get one of these things for the kid some day... :)
Reader @ Dec 20th 2007 3:06AM
Can I be your kid? I listen pretty good and don't get in too much trouble...
darren @ Dec 20th 2007 3:06AM
Awesome Possum!
Tis---strange @ Dec 20th 2007 3:13AM
Does nobody make grey cases anymore?
Richard Lai @ Dec 20th 2007 3:19AM
Copycat. ;)
But yeah, good times...
Tis---strange @ Dec 20th 2007 3:24AM
well yes, to copy was kind of the idea... ;-)
I am trying to install ubuntu on a 10 year old, grey PC (with 256 MhZ and 64 MbRam) and was just wondering... Good, solid case though.
Richard Lai @ Dec 20th 2007 3:52AM
So I guess you can't change the motherboard on that one?
Tis---strange @ Dec 20th 2007 4:14AM
nope, all stays as it was... It´s kind of the challenge
Julian Bond @ Dec 20th 2007 3:13AM
Why is the version of a gadget that you really want always more than you were hoping to pay?
Jeff @ Dec 20th 2007 3:46AM
Because you want it.
BobTurbo @ Dec 20th 2007 4:47AM
I'm undecided what form-factor my mobile PC should be in. I am thinking a slate tablet PC is the ideal approach.
Richard Lai @ Dec 20th 2007 7:02AM
Time to get the hacksaw and welder out then.
webon @ Dec 20th 2007 4:18AM
that chubby guy thats fond of children is in jail now... or are we not talking bout the same guy?
Richard Lai @ Dec 20th 2007 7:03AM
He's got clones, remember?
TZK @ Dec 20th 2007 7:21AM
Wow, either that photo looks like shit, or I just snezed on my monitor.
Kazoontite, anyone?
Natedog @ Dec 20th 2007 9:58AM
Eh, I'll stick with black. Looks nice and clean, IMO. More companies need to make solid-colored laptops; I think two-tone detracts from the looks. Am I just boring?
Either way, I love ASUS and I love small laptops; rockin' the black W7S right now.
Ellianth @ Dec 20th 2007 11:09AM
why yes, yes you are :p.
russ @ Dec 20th 2007 10:43AM
'Twas. It's a contraction.

"In stock and ready for delivery by that chubby man who's fond of children"

Did Michael Jackson gain weight?

I bet that colored/shinny notebook = lousy specs.
John Seamann @ Dec 20th 2007 12:35PM
Make it polished aluminum, and instead of the Asus logo put some sort of fruit in its cover, stuff it with some feline software and a slighter larger disc. Then would I buy it
wabguard-email @ Dec 20th 2007 2:26PM
Still waiting for the advertised 199.00 version... wonder when Asus will stick to their word.
DeoWulf @ Dec 20th 2007 1:05PM
Yeah, I would totally buy it.
vf34wrx @ Dec 20th 2007 2:29PM
It's cheaper in Taiwan! 8G is around $436 instead of $499...
letstakeawalk @ Dec 20th 2007 5:31PM
Serious question: If my 4G has approx. 1.3 gig left on the drive running the native OS, how do they manage to trim the OS down so that it will run with the smaller memory? I could give up some of the educational software that came with mine, if it would free up space.
Baba Booey @ Dec 20th 2007 9:11PM
8gb sdhc card=~60
16gb=~110
Easy to expand I'd say
