Panasonic showing a 150-inch plasma at CES?
The CES game of HDTV one-upsmanship is officially on, as Matsushita (Panasonic) is apparently planning to bring a 150-inch plasma to that epic Las Vegas tradeshow in January. According to The Yomiuri Shimbun's sources, the prototype PDP is expected to launch in 2009 with a price that "greatly exceeds" the largest model currently available, measuring a mere 103-inches. Anyone want to guess when we'll hear about a 151-inch screen from Sharp or Samsung?

Why?
Bragging rights. Even if they take a small loss or break even in the sales of these things, It improves the perceived image of Panasonic Plasmas and helps to sell more of the smaller panels. It's called a flagship product.
And here I thought my brother's 30-40 in. LCD was obscenely sized...
When will Panasonic show a 46in LCD with static 500,000:1 contrast and 120hz refresh for $1000? You know, something more than 5 people will actually be able to buy and have space for in their home.
no point in manufacturing it unless for jumbo-trons at race tracks and small arenas.
my question is what difference will 1 inch make?????????
Depends on the Woman you ask...
Any woman that complains about the difference between 150 inches and 151 inches will never truly be satisfied
I an only hopeing that one day Engadget will give one of these away.
shoud that day ever come can I ask you to replace that Plasma with an LCD
if they ever give these away s&h is going to be s#!tty f^(king expensive. but having a tv as a wall would be cool:]
god a tv as a wall would be savage... can u imagine playing like halo 3, with the improvements of head tracking? it would be like ur actually there. well i guess we have to wait for head tracking but hopefully it will be here soon!!!! god i cant wait....
The cost of this TV probably exceeds the yearly income of all the Engadget bloggers...
IAN - put down the controller and go outside.
At least once a month
I do want believe over 90% of us can find a way to afford this, TV but I also belie 99% of us are smart enough not to buy a TV for that price.
Too bad you'll need one of these to power the monster.

I can't wait till we hear about the guy who throws a wiimote through this puppy. "Oooops my bad".
$150,000 is my guess
100$ per inch? That's mad.
sorry 1000**
Prob will be around 100$ an inch
It will look bad at 1080p
"Makes a great gift!"
$100 per inch? yea right lol...
That would make the TV $15,000!
The Sony 70" is $30,000
The 105" is worth $40,000...
So I think we are both way off, it won't be anywhere near $15,000 and no where near $150,000... I was just slightly messing around anyway...Id say it'd be in the middle of both of ours, $80,000 :D
this tv shouldn't be on display at CES, as it really falls outside of the realm of consumer electronics. no reasonable consumer could afford this, nor would one want a tv this size for their home. this thing can only be for large advertising displays, jumbotrons, etc. that, and either the pixels are about the size of a postage stamp or it offers some obscene resolution nothing is capable of outputting yet.
either way, this is way beyond consumer.
I've got a Sony Bravia 55", and it's already way too big for my hall! I have to watch it from 4-5 meters to see it all! What about a 150"? You must have a cinema at home!
Hey nineT9, I think the 103 inches one costs $100K and not 40K...
It's for Shaq O'neals bedroom!! I think its not big enough for though.
wow, that's like 3 times the size of my tv...
Does this thing support 3240p?
I'll need it for the xbox1080.
