Asus to unveil next-gen Eee PC with WiMAX alongside Intel and Sprint
There's a WiMAX shindig coming our way at CES next Monday courtesy of Intel, Sprint and Asus. From the sound of things it'll primarily be Sprint and Intel letting everyone know how very, very fast WiMAX is -- and how ahead of the curve we should know they are on deployment and chipsets -- but things will get a little extra interesting when the companies start showing off WiMAX "mobile solutions": actual devices that actually play around with the new wireless standard. Asus in particular will be one to watch, since it's showing the sequel to the Eee PC, bedecked in WiMAX garb. That's as much info as we have at this point, and we're guessing Asus won't be launching the new Eee PC in the coming months while the current model is still selling so well, but we're looking forward to a peek all the same.[Via Notebook Italia]

That's sweet. Still waiting for a version with a bigger LCD though.

I second that. An Eee with a 10" screen would be just right. I had a Dell Latitude X1 stolen from me and I can't think of anything better to fill the void. 7" is just not quite enough.
...
That's what she said.

The current rumor is that the next-gen EEE will feature an 8.9" LCD, with a resolution of 1024x600 (most likely). We'll know if this is true or not soon enough, it'll be unveiled Jan. 7-10 at CES.

Maybe this will be the 10" version that people are holding out for? If so, the price will undoubtedly go up so I just hope they keep it under ?£300.

Great. I'm still hoping that we'll in the near future will be able to buy a surf laptop with nothing but a data plan.

I just want a little bigger screen. And for them not to multiply the increased screen cost by 10 when they determine how much to increase the price (*I think we all remember that)

Oh this is SIMPLY awesome. I don't feel bad for buying the current one - I wouldn't mind owning two.

I wonder if this is the same event where we'll see the WiMAX version of the Nokia Internet Tablet revealed? (it was announced last summer or so)
Superevil @ Dec 31st 2007 11:41AM
Dear Asus,
If it doesn't have a 10" LCD don't bother.
Sauerkraut @ Dec 31st 2007 6:29PM
Now this is what I really need. I'd make sense to make a sequel after all the attention the EEE got.
fadumpt @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:04PM
Have any of you even used the EEE?
7" is good enough for almost anything you'd need this for, if it's not, you are looking at it for the wrong reasons and therefore aren't the target audience...maybe you need to look into new glasses...or replacments.
The whole point of this thing is to be tinier then tiny while still being a usable computer...it does that. sure 10" would be nice for the right size and price but it's not worth complaining about.
I'd rather have bluetooth and cell internet and all that fun stuff.
WolfPac_Ite @ Jan 5th 2008 12:41AM
Portable p0rn isn't a good reason?
Just kidding...

I just bought my eee 2 days ago and have spent time since "exploring" features. For travel this is ideal size, software, speed. ASUS needs to partner with more software providers like BOINGO (hot-spotter) to offer clients for the Linux OS. Also need to broaden hardware compatablity for USB webCams, printers, cameras.
I agree with need for easier apps installs, but this was never intended as a prime-time machine !
