no way! the new tz cant have a 13.3 display. It is 11 inches.
Dolemite @ Dec 31st 2007 1:25AM
Hmmm, if the past price points are anything to go by, these specs suggest that the Viaos will be $3000. No?
I am sure a thinkpad would be a better alternative.
Daren @ Dec 31st 2007 1:29AM
those better ship with Vista 64bit...
mattclarkie @ Dec 31st 2007 10:03AM
I assume that with 4gb of RAM they would. I am annoyed at the fact that nothing ships with 64bit. I am running 64bit but only because I built it, try and buy one, you just can't.
Kamall @ Dec 31st 2007 1:31AM
Okay, if your just going to be lazy and copy info right from Notebookreview.com, at least COPY IT RIGHT!
I wish the TZ would have a T9300 processor and 4gb of ram though...

I love my TZ. Yes it was expensive, I know.. save me the lecture on how there are cheaper alternatives out there.. but the machine is absolutely killer. I've always been a ThinkPad owner but decided to go with Sony this time around since the current X series is lacking a bit in my opinion.
The screen on the TZ is simply stunning. It's the brightest LCD I've ever seen, and the resolution is great. Not to mention it has every bell and whistle and packs it all into a sub-3lb machine that pushes 7 hours of battery life. Build quality is surprisingly good (no match for my old X41, but still quite good). It's a pleasure to use, and I really couldn't be happier with it.
Okay, end of Sony rant. Glad to see some new products coming - and I can't wait for the next generation TZ.

I'm not seeing anything inaccurate from notebookreview's site. Nor is it like we didn't link them or weren't clear about where this information came from.
sturmnacht @ Dec 31st 2007 1:58AM
It's clearly showing that those from Engadget don't have the enthusiasm when information regarding Sony's ultraportable Vaio was leaked. Their minds are pretty much clouded by Apple's ultraportable. I suspect that because I still remember that they have stated Apple's Macbook keyboard was the first and Sony followed suit with their TZ, which is not true.
The Vaio TZ is a wonderful machine. They set a perfect example of what innovation can be done to an ultraportable, which Sony don't seem to be afraid to push those boundaries that many other laptop companies aren't able to do because of the price. Despite the high price, some (particularly professionals) are still willing to shell out a good portion of their income just to lay their hand on them. All in all, the Vaio TZ is the robust laptop with all the right things in a neat and tidy package.

"leakage" is what happens from your ass, Ryan.
This is just leaked info.

What's with the hate?
OneLove @ Dec 31st 2007 10:16AM
some people just feel entitled.
sys_ops911 @ Dec 31st 2007 2:43AM
They might be worth considering, if you didn't have to deal with sony suport were anything to go wrong.
I'm a former S260 owner(and have owned a lot of other sony products, and that would stop me for sure.
To the above post about a thinkpad being a better alternative, not anymore - thinkpads have become cheap failing machines that are not even a hit of their former glory - just more cheap chinese plastic overpriced to make $$.
torqueo @ Dec 31st 2007 3:25AM
My X61s isn't built cheap, doesn't fail and isn't made of "cheap Chinese plastic" (whatever that means, exactly). The X61's aren't as impressive as the X60's were, but they're still great laptops. Maybe you're using Vista? I often find, when reading reviews, users will mistakenly mark their new machines as unstable, when it's actually Vista causing the problems. I mean most decent laptops these days use almost all Intel-made components in their "Centrino" class, so it doesn't make sense that they're unstable, until Vista is added to the picture...
sys_ops911 @ Jan 5th 2008 5:17AM
grab a t42, depress the palm rest hard. Grab a t60, do the same. The build quality since the lenovo shift has dumped, period, and our failure rates in the same time tripled. - i'm sure you chalk that up to bad luck.
ark_v2 @ Dec 31st 2007 2:56AM
Leak...from sony's website? then it is not leak at all...
Vivek @ Dec 31st 2007 3:00AM
Sony Supports sux and they dont support 64 bit. While i have VAIO SZ491N/X, it performs far worse than my other thinkpad T60 in every benchmark. Vaio only name to fame is its form factor and looks, but thats about it. I am never getting another VAIO.
BigDaddyM @ Dec 31st 2007 3:11AM
Copy and paste from the other website, which clearly shows different specs Ryan:
The specs on the VAIO TZ298 include the following:
11.1”WXGA XBRITE-HiColor display
White LED backlight
U7700 (1.33GHz) Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
2GB RAM DDR 2 533Mhz
314GB HDD
64GB SSD + 250GB HDD (5400RPM)
External DVD+-RW/+-R DL optical drive
Premium carbon fiber casing on LCD lid
Fingerprint sensor + TPM
EV-DO Wireless broadband connection
Windows Vista Business
Weight: 2.65 lbs
BigDaddyM @ Dec 31st 2007 5:52PM
I also notice that the "text" says 1.33GHz but the screen grabs and the cached Google page says 1.2GHz so who knows what is the actual speed of teh TZ2. I hope faster which is teh only thing holding me back from getting one.

N30 G30 @ Dec 31st 2007 4:59AM
I was thinking about buying a new laptop. Does anyone have a reasonable guesstimate to the price of this thing and would it be more than $2,500?
If it is, then I'll get a laptop now and not wait for these.
N30 G30 @ Dec 31st 2007 5:11AM
$2249.99

Nevermind. Found my answer.
Ricardo @ Dec 31st 2007 8:22AM
With $2500 you can get a Dell XPS M1330 with 64 GB SSD. It's Santa Rosa though.
webon @ Dec 31st 2007 11:15AM
the 1330 is fugly compared to the sexy TZ
and yea I wish tha tz would accept 4GB ram... but no, just a simple miscopying notin to get to fussed bout
Althou you did got me excited there for a minute,I really thought the info Rahul got on the TZ back at notebookreview was just a tease, and you had got the real deal from a different source.
anyway
HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!!
N30 G30 @ Dec 31st 2007 11:59AM
+1 for Richardo and webon.
I was thinking of the 1330m. I was also thinking of a thinkpad, but I want a 13 inch and they don't have that. I really had my eyes on an sz series though or an Asus which is the best bang for your buck.
Now I'm trying to figure out how easy it is to upgrade the processor of an sz laptop to one of these processors. I don't really need a huge hard drive and tons of ram. If I'm able to upgrade the processor with no problems, then I don't really have a problem. Does anyone have clue? I'd really appreciate it.
If I find out anything, I'll post it.

well according to some posters in notebookreview, you can change the processor, but the change isn't worth it.
Orpus Vivendis @ Dec 31st 2007 5:59AM

Why do you have so many duplicating pages and articles? Its very annoying.
