Toshiba's
presence at CES isn't limited to
just LCDs due in the first half of the year. We already got wind of a few products with no definite release date. First up is the
Cell B.E.-equipped Qosmio (Cell-less current model pictured) and standalone HDTV prototypes designed for video upconversion, with the usual gamut of realtime video transcoding demonstrations. Also on tap is the next generation of REGZA Link based on
WirelessHD and a Direct Methanol Fuel Cell for mobiles. Sounds like things could pretty interesting in Toshiba-land real soon.

ok, I'll say it, wth is the cell doing in that laptop - is it the primary cpu or a co-processor?

That part will be interesting, the Cell is being manf. by Toshiba now so it's not entirely shocking to see them trying to turn extra profits on the thing outside of PS3 sales.

98% odds its playing the GPU role, and thats before you consider the slab of PCB its on looks very much like a MXM video card.
it'll be interesting to see how Toshiba does in the drivers department. thankfully since its a Cell, we can hopefully just go write our own.

So we're finally going to see how Cell does with HDTV so many years after seeing demos of it handling HDTV streams like it's easy? Can't wait... wonder how much it'll add to the price though.
