That's wonderful that your macbook has the same resolution...it doesn't have the same internal specs though, and it is meant for mainstream usage. This is a 17" notebook that is typically targeted as more of a desktop replacement, or for gaming.
With regard to the touchpad being centered, if you'd pay a little bit of attention you'd notice that with the 17" screen there is also a full numeric keypad to the right. If the trackpad were centered to the full laptop it would not be in a convenient place while you're doing 98% of your typing.
Try pretending for a second that just because someone doesn't do design work at Apple, that doesn't mean their ideas are wrong.
