Toshiba gets official with Portege G910, G710 and G450 phones
We already caught sight of shiny little number pictured above these thanks to the generous folks at the FCC, but Toshiba's just now gotten official with it, along with two that we haven't seen, but heard about in the company's 2008 roadmap. That one above is the Portege G910, a follow-up to the company's G900, which packs a 3-inch WVGA display, a 2 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6 and tri-band 900/1800/1900 GSM/EDGE support, in addition to 2100 HSDPA. If that's not your thing, you can also look forward to the Blackberry-esque G710 (pictured after the break), which boasts GPS but no 3G, and the rather, um, unique-looking G450 "modem phone" (also after the break), which boasts 3G but no GPS (among other differences). Look for all three to hit Europe in March, with the G910, G710 and G450 running roughly $880, $440 and $290, respectively.

Interesting, a WM6 device with 800x480 resolution?
If it has something faster than 400mhz processor, I'm in!

If the leaks are correct, it's a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200-based.

Surur @ Jan 18th 2008 4:23PM

This is the kinda thing i was hoping to get from HTC. Although I think i would still prefer the sliding display over the laptop like folding one this has.

with that real estate it looks like they could have gone to 3.5 or even 4 inches on the screen, either way, FINALLY a wvga wm phone, too band it's not CDMA (better reception here, making no judgments otherwise). Hear that HTC, that's the last shreds of your reputation being flushed down the toilet. It's nice that SOMEONE was willing to build the Omni and not sit on their ass for two years.

why if it's triband GSM is it being run through the FCC?
you only run it through the FCC if you want a US release, and that requires quadband GSM....
weird...?? am I missing something?

Anyone considering these should read the earlier G900 reviews first. The specs are great but the first G900s were unusable. My locked up every time it went to sleep. No ringer or anything until you reset it. Toshiba took weeks to issue a patch and I'd already returned mine by then. The 800x480 screen is great though. Surprised it hasn't reached more phones by now. Also amazed Toshiba doesn't go quadband/triband 3G but I guess they just aren't pursuing the US market.

that's ok, so did my htc xv6700 until i hacked it to the next version of wm6. Just looking for a pda phone with 21st Century specs. The FCC approval points to something (quad band gsm?)
Scott @ Jan 18th 2008 2:35PM
Toshiba sent the G900 through the fcc as well and it was only triband.
Superevil @ Jan 18th 2008 3:42PM
not bad
Naveed @ Jan 18th 2008 4:49PM
dimensions would be important. My xv6800 is already too big/thick and that looks even bigger

Yep. This new Toshiba phone might deliver the goos. Are there any customized mobile phone accessories for this gadget? Like an aluminum case or something?
