It has less to do with Apple hate and more to do with Apple's penchant for taking something that is obviously poorly designed and trying to spin it into a plus. They take a technical limitation or (in this case) a poor port layout and tell you how much better your life will be now that you have this limited functionality. "One USB port is the wave of the future!"
