Mouse Computer's LuvBook J131 kicks it Penryn style
The last we heard from Japan's Mouse Computers, it was offering up a cheap'n'easy path to Merom -- and true to form, it's followed that up with a low-cost ticket to Penryn town, the J131. The 1280x800 13.3-inch unit is pretty basic, as things go -- 120GB drive, 2GB of RAM, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam -- but unlike some other machines on the market, its price is just as stripped-down as its featureset: just ¥119,700 ($1,125). Of course, there's no word on whether we'll ever see this hit our fair shores, but those of you headed to Japan soon should be able to pick this up straight away.

1,125? I bough my Acer Aspire 5683 with 160 GB and T5500 in april for 1100 Euros. True, I had to upgrade my ram for around 15 Euros. This is the price you'd expect for the features.
White_Pheonix @ Jan 28th 2008 9:32PM
That's 1,125 Dollars. According to Google, you paid about 1,642 for your laptop, and this laptop, in Euros, would be about 764. In other words, you paid almost 50% more for your laptop than you would have to pay for this one.

everyone say it with me "Macbook killer!" (seriously.)
Jamar @ Jan 28th 2008 10:51PM
Except it doesn't actually run Mac, but that can be easily fixed.
Reader @ Jan 29th 2008 12:42AM
Running 'Mac' wouldn't be all that useful, I assume most would prefer OSX.
ace_spades @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:55PM
macbook killers CAN'T run mac osx (its horribly platform locked)
well, they can, but it would take hacking.
lots of people called the small system76 notebook a macbook killer (it runs linux - specifically ubuntu)
linuxamp @ Jan 28th 2008 11:12PM
As far as I know mouse computers only sells machines with Japanese keyboards and if you're not used to it you'll constantly be hitting the henkan (input mode) key every time you want to hit 'space'. Unless you want to carry an English USB keyboard around twice before ordering.
linuxamp @ Jan 28th 2008 11:13PM
That's supposed to say "think twice before ordering".
bob @ Jan 29th 2008 1:21AM
No he means that he intends to carry a USB keyboard around on 2 different occasions before he ordered it. (Corporal Literal strikes again!)
sam @ Jan 29th 2008 9:15AM
hook me up with the hentai key
