MacBook Air shipments beginning for the earliest adopters
If you were prepared to snap up whatever ultraportable Steve Jobs threw at you during his Macworld keynote, and started frantically refreshing the Apple Store to buy the MacBook Air as soon as it was announced, you might be seeing a shipping notice from Apple in your inbox pretty soon. Reports are coming in from early adopters that their MacBook Airs are on the way, with some projected arrivals as early as February 1st -- pretty much right on target for Apple's projected two week wait. The rest of you suckers who dilly dallied in your purchasing decision might have to wait a bit longer, and potentially be subject to the humiliation of the laptop hitting stores before it arrives on your doorstep.

"...The rest of you suckers..." Wow, outright hostility for the gentle souls willing to drop $1,800.00+ on a laptop. Who knew.
It's not a laptop, it's a UMPC.
It's not a UMPC - it's a Mac.
Wow Miles you just eat that marketing BS up don't ya.
What do you think a laptop is? It's a mobile PC dumbass.
Is Miles the evil twin of Mike?
It's pretty obvious that that was a joke--
Wow, I just looked at Miles' other posts, wow, it wasn't a joke.
Dude, I think we just found iBunny Supreme, the iBunny overlord.
--------
BTW...
Best.
MBA picture mockup.
EVER.
No, I'm not the brother of Mike (whoever that is) and No I'm not eating up any marketing bullshit.
I guess the OQO should be called a laptop too since it's a Mobile PC.
There is a difference between a laptop and UMPC.
I'd like to see you slip your Macbook Pro into the front pocket of a binder, or school folder without stretching it or breaking the paper/plastic flap.
Miles, MBA are just thin, they have 13" screens. I'd love to see you slip that into a binder.
You know most UMPCs are, what do you call that?, ULTRA MOBILE, they can fit into pockets--albeit not all too comfortably, but they are able to fit in there nonetheless.
No! He is not my twin!
I think all of you are stupid.
Everyone shut up and get over it.
what would happen if miles and mike had a baby?
i for one would like to see that happen. (not the contraception part... or do i?)
no i most certainly do not.
If there is contraception, there will be no baby and they're just doing it for fun. Now, the conception is something I think none of us would like to see.
Ignoring the fact that they are most likely both males, I don't think contraception would be involved if they were to have a baby :)
*conception
sorry silly spell check
i forgot jesus doesnt like contraception
Calling this a UMPC is like calling Paris Hilton a midget.
What could possibly be worse than the "humiliation of the laptop hitting stores before it arrives on your desktop"?
Wait, I know this one. The humiliation of dropping over $2k (and/or a testicle/ovary) only to find out you bought a machine that runs slower than most other CHEAPER machines already on the market.
i think the better paris hilton analogy is:
to call this a UMPC is like calling paris hilton a virgin. sure you can believe what you want, but everyone knows it's not true because everyone's already peed on her... it.
It's not a Mac or a UMPC, it's a pile of shit and fail
They'll be really humiliated when they realize they bought an overpriced piece of poo. MBP FTW!!!
Compared to the rest of it's market (UMPCs) It's cheaper and more powerful.
You'd rather have an OQO?
Miles, the UMPC/Laptop/OQO/Palm pilot Sucks the big one. Its not worth $1800 no matter who's glasses you are looking through or how jaded you are by the marketing campaign.
All I'm saying is you shouldn't compare the MBA with a MBP, since the MBA is a UMPC.
I wouldn't buy it, since I already have a MBP, and I don't have the extra money, but putting it up against a different market it totally unfair.
"All I'm saying is you shouldn't compare the MBA with a MBP, since the MBA is a UMPC."
You're a jackass. The MacBook Air is an ultraportable laptop. And not a very good one at that, considering how big it is in areas other than "thin." UMPCs are things like the Flipstart, the OQO, or the Vaio UX.
Stop preaching nonsense.
Chebwa, techincally the OQO is a "Micro PC" ;)
@Miles
Get a clue.
A UMPC has to have a screen from 5" to 7" - MacBook Air is 13.3".
A UMPC has to have a touch screen - MacBook Air does not.
A UMPC must be 2lbs or less - MacBook Air is 3lbs.
A UMPC has to be able to run Windows XP Tablet PC edition or later. MBA can - but can't use the Tablet PC features without adding on a Wacom Tablet.
It's NOT a UMPC. It's NOT a MID either.
Let it go, you're completely OTL on this one.
UMPCs are lightweight, compact devices that run Windows and use handwriting as the main way to enter data. The OQO IS a UMPC (although on the edge of the definition). The Samsung Q1U is one also. The MacBook Air is NOT.
@Miles
Oh.. and while we're on it - most (if not all) real UMPCs are $1500 or less all the way down to $750. If you insist on calling the MBA a UMPC, then you're wrong about it being the 'cheapest' one out there. It's actually the most expensive one by far.
Lord, the UMPC thing wasn't a joke...
Man, now I feel depressed. Apple is awesome watching brains.
@mike:
...wha?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OQO_Model_02
Google results yield about a million instances of the word "UMPC" too. Why, does OQO call it a Micro-PC? That'd be pretty lame...
On a totally unrelated note - because I need to whine about this - OQO is a damn mess. I got THREE different OQO 02s (kept returning them - defective batteries). I didn't get a working one until the fourth - and the HDD in it is making clicking noises.
Geez... they need to get it together.
Calling the MBA is the equivalent of calling an anorexic person a midget. thin doesn't necessarily constitute small.
*calling the MBA a UMPC*
damn comment system
Are they being sent in Manilla envelopes?
Yeah, but you have to pay a premium to get them lined with bubble wrap.
If it comes in a bubble-lined manila envelope, the packaging would probably be more useful than the contents.
This post reminded me of when I bought a Macbook Pro on eBay and the woman posted it in...... a jiffy bag!
Nothing else through the standard postal service. I'm sure you can imagine what it looked like after that ordeal :/
yes, but they don't fit any other macbook models, costs extra, and will be outdated in 6 months.
and you better pray that it doesnt have any serious Rev A bugs.
@ James
- Yes and cheap ones at that...you know...gotta cut corners somehow ;)
As usual, the early adopters will be dealt the "Back-Hand of Doom (BHD)" from Steve Jobs, when he ultimately reveals a better, faster Macbook Air with more RAM and a larger HDD.
Technology marches on... this is true of every computer.
There will be a $400 price drop in 5 weeks.
I may be a Mac fanboy... But the first person I see with an Air I'm going to kick in the shins
Why?
Because you are jealous?
This isn't a laptop folks, it's a UMPC, and the cheapest one out that at that.
Loser.
*high fives*
While beautiful looking...they aren't practical at all. Oh well.
Miles, suck it dumbass. I'm going to kick them in the shins for being adopters.
Yup... Miles is definitely Mike's evil twin. Or his cousin. All I know is they are related.
Being a Mac fan, I'd be right with you. The MBA sucks as a laptop, period.
Oh, and CharlieX, your comment made my day.
Don't compare me to this idiot. Hey miles, KILL YOUR SELF!
As an avid Mac User and a huge fan of their products. I should be able to safely say without getting hazed too badley: "Who cares. Enough on the MBA...it's a P.O.S. anyways. Why spend $500 more for less performance than the already wonderfully light and portable Macbook."
Because it's a UMPC.
There is a market for that you know.
Shut up.
