Is Sony's PS3 getting a redesign?

According to T3 magazine and a "particularly well-informed insider," the PS3 is due not just for hard drive updates, but a total design revamp down to a slimmer and smaller package sometime in the Fall. If you believe what you read, the refreshed console will sport all the same specs, but will receive a fresh coat of paint, a trip through the shrinking machine, and probably a lightened load. Of course, this is all just wild speculation coupled with salacious, magazine-selling 3D renders of the phantom device, as Sony denies the existence of an update and we don't really know who this source is. On the other hand, the company pulls this kind of ditzy "who me?" stuff whenever it's got a new product up its sleeve -- though we're not feeling the timing on this shocker.

This would be a great idea, slim down the bloated PS3, I'm waiting anyway until the fall to buy it, if they ever release some games that are actually better than on the 360, so here's hoping it's true.

If this means they [Sony] make the power-brick external I'm not going to buy a PS3 on principle alone. The great thing about the PS3 is the fact that it's fully self-contained. Although I doubt they'd make the external power-brick Borg-like, as the Xbox 360's one, I still would prefer if they make a smaller size decrease and keep the power-brick internal.

Forget the slim design. They need to add an IR receiver and a 3-disc changer...that would be sweet! I'd sell mine and upgrade for that.

I can't think of anything else the PS3 needs that it doesn't already have. The library is getting huge this year--more than enough for me. Maybe they could support media drives wirelessly like the new Apple Time Capsule, that would be cool.

I think it is very feasible. Now that PS3s are done with backwards compatibility, they can eliminate a whole processor/mobo they had dedicated to it.

this is bull. fisrt the motion sensing now the console its self. sony's just lopped the top of a ps3 and stuck it on a wii hoping no1 would see. i cant belive there still copying ninty
