Listen up pilgrims. It's Apple's favorite product launch day -- Tuesday -- and we're once again sitting on a pile of rumors. So what's it going to be? A 16GB bump to the iPhone, new MacBook Pros running Intel's latest mobile Penryn processor with enhanced multi-touch touchpad, or maybe a few more countries added to the iPhone rollout in Europe? Who knows. Really, anyone know?

wow, 2 iphone articles in 2 hours. i can imagine the engadget fanboy hammering refresh at the apple store 24 hours a day, hitting the big alert button whenever it goes down.
This would piss me off. Not two months after I pop for it. Not that I would have a right to get pissed off . . . Maybe I wouldn't be pissed if it costs $200 more than the 8 gig'er.

No they wouldn't, if the update were only a minor one (spec bump, new trackpad etc.).
that last macpro revision with a santa rosa update never got a keynote release.

France and Germany are still up too, 16GB iPhone is unlikely. However, Canada is also down????
Canada store is down because it's hosted by the same servers that the US store is.

Apple's response: any time your networks are ready.
But they'll never be ready for the old crappy 2G connection... Telstra is the only phone network with CDMA and they're shutting that network down as its "too old and costly" which is why Apple needs to drag the iPhone into some hardware that reassembles something worthwhile

Just been on to my mate who works at an O2 store, he confirmed that they recieved a few 16gb iPhones in this morning. £330 is the UK cost.....around £280 too much for the UK market
Was excited, but then I realised UK store is still up. :(

A 32GB Touch would be more realistic, since flash generally uses base 2. Well, it has to, as far as I know. 30GB would take a mix of a 16GB, 8GB, 4GB and 2GB chip to work. They won't put that many chips in a Touch. With 32GB (or a 16GB 3G iPhone in Canada) I'll consider buying a new music player/phone. Until then, no dice, Apple.

Plenty of places you can still get a grey market unlocked iPhone, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it... Not unlike the official contracts really :)

Only matters if it is a 3G 16 gig iPhone. Otherwise it's just one more ploy to get everyone to buy iPhones right before they release the 3G version so that everyone will want to rebuy them.

It could even get a permanent comment thread (purging comments older than 30 days or something). Apple Store down news really annoy me and ruling out all Apple news would not be my thing.

Ok. i just bought the iphone a week ago. if apple comes out with this new 16gb iphone im just gonna have to return my 8gb iphone. i really dont care if they charge me 40 bucks for returning the used iphone...twice the memory is well worth it.
hopefully they lower the price of the 8gb iphone and keep the price of 399.99 for the 16gb iphone...i'd like that :)
The UK store did go down for a short while this morning but came up and I cant see any difference. I did notice that the iPhone is now referred to as the iPhone 8GB rather than just the iPhone but cant remember if thats the way its always been?

Funny thing is, all of the above it entirely possible and has been achieved by other providers. Aside from the 16GB memory and Wireless N.
When the 3G version is released I'm snapping it up right away.
Umm the iPhone has a standard headphone jack. A little recessed, yes. But my Bose headphones fit perfectly.

Aren't things like these supposed to go through FCC first? So, how comes we haven't heard of it in one of those "FCC Fridays" a few fridays ago?
Capacity changes don't have to go through the FCC.
So far as new markets opening soon, here in Thailand the local Apple reseller has a sign up announcing that the iPhone is coming soon. They don't know exactly when or any details about phone plans.
The rule here in Thailand is that people buy minutes and are not on any committed plan. The audience for business as usual with the iPhone will be an extremely small one here unless they completely open up the phone both for software and options for service plans.
I'll get an iPhone if I can buy minutes, otherwise I'll likely get an iPod Touch and keep a minimalist phone. On the third hand I like what I've read about the Symbian based Nokia N95 8GB. The devil is in the details of the phone plan options offered. As it's been, the iPhone has been the most expensive device on the market when including the expensive mandatory phone plans.
Japan store is still up. Must be something limited.
I'm not even going to hope for an iPhone this year in Japan.

It may be mundane but I would like some display updates in either price or performance. With the new Mac Pro out, it should be soon.

From the look of what the Register is reporting in the UK it could well be a 16Gb iPhone to be added to the collection.
