Penryn CPUs coming to Dell laptops?
If you've been wishin' and hopin' for a new Dell laptop, you might want to hold off for a little bit. According to a speculative report over at CNET, the company is planning on upgrading laptop CPUs to Intel's fancy new Penryn chips, though the PC-maker is remaining tight-lipped about just which models will get the spike, if any. Sure, we understand that Dell doesn't want to cannibalize its sales by hyping up new systems, but since it's highly likely these will be broadly adopted for laptops in the future, and HP, Sony, and Toshiba (amongst others) are onboard for the 45-nanometer CPUs, you'd think Dell would say something.

*cough* E Series Latitude *cough* XPS M15** *cough* High End Inspiron *cough* Frigg off Vostro Owner... we don't like you *cough*
but i don't know nothing...
Mabey D8** Series Latitudes when the E comes out... just for the sake of sanity...
Get some cough syrup =P
Meh everyone will be going Penryn eventually you can't deny performance and power. Poor ol'AMD just keeps getting further behind. It makes me sad to see Intel raise the bar so high and AMD just fall so short. When AMD raised the bar Intel met the challenge it appears that AMD won't be firing back for awhile if at all.
What's an AMD?
:\
Cyrix, we hardly knew ye!
Haha I loved the Cyrix line at the end much lolz to you.
yeah really. id friggin hope so! i think it would be bigger news if a company announced that they weren't going to use them.
I've been holding off buying a new laptop from Dell since late December expecting them to drop in the Penryn. It's been a wait, but the new computer isn't essential for me at this time, so I figured I'd wait the month or so and get a slightly upgraded system. Not waiting for the next intel upgrade though.
Given that the processor's have been in the manual of the XPS 1730M for some time now, I suspect (and hope) that model will see the update soon.
In the mean time I got word from Cizmo that they're testing the Penryn's quad core in their Clevo quad core giant, so I'm a bit in a struggle.
What makes this so news worthy? Of course they are going to end up using them, and make them extremely overpriced while they're at it...
Actually, the prices will stay the same or probably go down, after all Penryn's have a higher manufacturing yield, and bought in bulk like Dell will do, they will probably be cheaper than the old Conroe's were.
Dell just ended a $700 off sales yesterday to clear out their old stock, so chances are, these will drop sometime this week.
"Penryn CPUs coming to Dell laptops?"
Uhh... this is a rumor? I could tell you that myself - it's not a matter of will it or won't it but rather a matter of when. gitr'right!!
But dell will probably make penryns the most expensive option. Thats what HP did.
the T9300 is already on the XPS M1330 in Australia and New Zealand
The T9300 is a free upgrade for the rest of the day...
