Here come the MacBook Pro mockups: get yours in before it's too late

It was inevitable, Apple's got a bit of a new laptop design direction in the MacBook Air, and nothing's going to stand in the way of the hordes of MacBook Pro Photoshops to follow. This one here is from spicu, and we're afraid it leaves some proportionality "to the imagination," but it's as good we've got so far. Think you can do better? Submit yours to contests at engadget dawt com with "MBP mockup" in the subject and we'll get a little gallery going. Optimists have Apple launching an update in February, and while that rumor might be a tad sketchy at the moment, there's no better time than the present to make a bid for Photoshop greatness. Optometrists think you shouldn't look at the computer screen so much. Oh, and there's nothing up for grabs for the best mockup, only pride.

oh.. wait that's the G4 Titanium... I appreciate the artists who come up with the new Apple product mockups, but they look exactly like the G4 Titanium. I suppose if Apple does update the line, changes the way it looks, and it is more like the AIR then Apple would be stepping in that direction (again).

Obvious fake, it started life as a pic of a MBA then someone added a thicker base (possibly from a pic of a MBP)
The shadow underneath gives it away (look close) plus as said above the new MBP will definitely have a magnetic catch and will also have a mini/micro DVI out.

LOL. Apple fanbois love to torture themselves. A MBP will always be the same boring as hell metal design. Never deviate from that design, just make it thinner because we all know the thinner a laptop is the better it is. Apple has no imagination. Seriously. The closest thing they have come to something truly original in design was the original iPod and iMac. Now a days all you have is some product that is designed to be thinner which automatically makes it teh sexy in the eyes of every fanboi.

Why would any company not want to make their laptops thinner? A device such as a laptop automatically becomes much more portable as it gets thinner & lighter... Isn't that the idea of a laptop, being portable??? All manufacturers are trying to minimize the size of their mobile devices–it's not like Apple is the only one... Such a totally cliche hater rant about Apple's product design.

Unless you were hoping you could live in the 90's for the rest of your life, I am utterly confused why you would post a comment like that on a tech Website. Looks like you had fun, at least! :)

why does the mockup have a clean upper bezel (a la macbook and not mbp) while keeping the latch button? what is that button doing? not that it doesn't look great.

unless of course it's an electromagnetic latch... ? or a turbo button.

i also would prefer not to see a black keyboard, unless there were an option for a black aluminum body. that would be nice.

You'll never see this in Feb. June or July I'd wager. They need more time to pimp the MacBook Air, and if an uber-thin MBP comes out too soon, they might loose some of that. Unless their market research shows that the potential buyers for the MBP and MBA are totally different. I use an MBP, for example, but have no desire for an Air at this time.

Ya know what would be nice? If the mouse button actually worked no matter where you pressed it. Honestly, on the current Macbook Pro, the mouse button either doesn't work or is unsatisfactorily mushy when you try to click it anywhere but in the exact center. Everytime someone borrows my computer I have to sit and coach them on where to click the mouse button. It's very annoying.

i'd love to see apple use that new form of metal coloring/laser burning that i've heard about lately on their aluminum...

then maybe replace the macbooks with that beautiful aluminum casing, get rid of that plastic that scratches up so easily...

Wow I coulda done that crappy photoshop in like 5 mins!! All it is, is a MBA top with a more rounded MBP bottom....
