LG says it has no plans to buy Motorola's cellphone biz
Things sure haven't gotten off to the best of starts for Motorola this year, with rumors about it selling off its cellphone business followed by official word on the matter followed by some internal drama and a lackluster showing at Mobile World Congress to boot. Now comes word from LG CEO for mobile Skott Ahn that the company has "never looked to buy Motorola," echoing a similar sentiment from Sony Ericsson, which had also been rumored as a possible buyer for Motorola's cellphone division. In other LG news, the company reportedly downplayed talk that it was planning to introduce a sub-$25 phone, but says it still plans to expand into emerging markets, and that it is "comfortable" it'll ship more than 100 million handsets worldwide this year.[Via mocoNews.net]

That is very smart thinking on LG's part. Do not touch Motorola if you want to stay on top. That goes for other phone manufacturers as well.

Moto is "sad in pants". Put the whole division up on ebay, I'll bid on it, twenty bucks.

I'm sure Microsoft will be more than willing to buy it.

That's bad news for LG since they need something to improve their phone division. Whilst LG makes innovative phones they still lack that something. They also are not big on updating firmware once a phone is out the door. I reported bugs in my LG Shine when I first got it (when the Shine first came out in UK). They gave me the usual canned response that they have passed it on to head office. A year down the line and no sign of a firmware update. I believe the phones for sale still have the bugs in question.

Motorolla use to be awesome, the Star Tac was way ahead of its time. I'm not sure about today but their build quality use to be far superior. I'd love to see more phones that inspire confidence in their build quality.
