Penryn chips finally land in Dell's XPS M1730
We already saw Intel's Penryn lineup invade Dell's XPS M1330, but now folks gunning for its (much) larger sibling can finally get in on the new CPU action, too. That's right folks, effectively immediately, prospective M1730 buyers can select a 2.4GHz T8300, 2.5GHz T9300, 2.6GHz T7800 or 2.8GHz X7900 to run the show. Ready to claim one for yourself? who cares? i want competition in mobile processors again so the evolution in technology doesnt suck like it does right now

While I do wish there was more competition in this area to lower prices and keep the progress going, the reason we have no competition is that Intel has been kicking major ass with their chips.

...and post edits, engadget. And botched reply-to's..
..and maybe nested replies...
I still think the forum system just needs an overhaul.

THe mockups of the XPS make it looks cheesy, but in real life its really smexy.

Majortom1981 @ Feb 14th 2008 8:02PM

How are you going to make a laptop with two gpu's in sli last for 10 hours on battery? The xps 1730 is a desktop replacement not really meant to be ultra portable.

[sarcasm]I'm surprised that I haven't read a comment yet complaining about it not being liquid cooled. LOL![/sarcasm]
Seriously, it should keep rich gamers content for quite a while. Good job Dell. :)
ethana2 @ Feb 14th 2008 10:30PM
I used to think the secret for a good laptop was liquid cooling, but it's more practical to just put the hot system components behind the screen and use heat pipes.
In either case, an aluminum heat sink covering the back of the screen with vertical fins is essential, and I won't be happy with a performance laptop until I see it.

Now just out them in the Macbook Pros! Come on Apple! Stop being lazy.
ethana2 @ Feb 14th 2008 10:30PM
Yeah, Apple! Write your own code!
..I'll take one of these with Ubuntu, please ^_^

Dell's newer laptops make me sad that I'm scared of buying tech when I know it'll be out of date before I buy it.
