LeapFrog is moving on up the chain, and hitting 3rd through 8th graders with a new study aid, the Crammer Study and Sound System. Crammer works basically as a replacement for those annoyingly handwritten index cards, allowing you to enter data for each side of virtual "cards" and run through them on the 2.5-inch grayscale screen. You can also download study aids for a myriad of subjects, or use the included language tools to automatically translate and pronounce words for study. The built-in music playback is pretty straightforward, and lets kids relax with some songs or listen while they study. We spotted a prototype at the 2008 Toy Fair, and while it wasn't a functional unit, we got to see the iriver
clix-style four-way screen clicking controls, which seem friendly enough. Crammer will be out Fall 2008 for $60, and includes 1GB of built-in flash memory.

I first turned away when I read "Leapfrog".
Then, I read on, and now I am excited I could use this to help study some kanji.

Same, if it supports Japanese characters. Would love to have it for kana/kanji.

"a replacement for those annoyingly handwritten index cards"
Pansies! Real Men write out index cards! I did that and it didn't hurt me. Now if you excuse me. I have to go take my arthritis medicine like a real man should.

No, real men shave with rocks.

I plan on buying a couple of these for certain family members as soon it's available, but I must say that there is a process to learning that one only gets from writing out each question and answer on index cards. Hopefully, typewritten cards will offer a similar benefit.

Last time I needed them to study I had to make 800. They would have done me more good if I had eaten them.
mmmm.... fiber

Do you think it would fit university/post grad students?
It seems kinda gay to use one of these around the campus...

If they could make this for WinMo, I'd buy it. I'm all for studying stuff, but I don't need another device to carry around.

Dillon @ Feb 18th 2008 12:14AM
No, he's going to try to get it to play doom and then will proceed to toss it into a blender.
SilverPill @ Feb 18th 2008 1:20AM
