Cloudbook shows up on Wal-Mart's website, ZaReason drops it
Everex's Cloudbook hasn't exactly seen the smoothest of launches, and now that the official launch date has come and gone, it seems that things just keeping getting curiouser and curiouser. For starters, the budget-priced laptop has now finally shown up on Wal-Mart's website, but it's already out of stock, and it's not clear if it was ever in stock to begin with. In other non-availability news, retailer ZaReason (which has actually shipped a few Cloudbooks) has announced that it's ditching the laptop altogether, stating only that "due to the amount of money we have lost granting refunds (due to bank transaction fees) we can no longer sell the Cloudbook." Needless to say, some are speculating that Everex's deal with Wal-Mart is the primary cause for the troubles at ZaReason, but either way, it seems that anyone actually looking to get their hands on a Cloudbook is out of luck, at least at the moment.

wow vaporware....how can this be sold out ( out of stock) already?
I think that technology is starting to buy into it's own hype.....what happened to the days of announcing a finished ready to be consumed product?...now day's seems like they release concepts and ideas and allow us ( the public) to refine the idea and then resubmit it as if that's what they meant in the first place...bet that happens here..when we finally see one ..this wont be what it is
Well, the product actually exists so it's not really a vaporware. But the way Everex handles this product roll out is totally disastrous. Never announce a new shipment date unless you can fulfill that promise.
The folks at Asus must be laughing their butt off...
That is one fugly piece of equipment.
Oh, and FIRST!!!
I mean SECOND!
ha ha
nobody fux with da jeebus
Wow, you're a jackass.
wow look at that; that is some screen real estate lemme tell ya.
1990's called they want their UMPCs back
seinfeld called, he wants the overused, unfunny jokes from his show back.
Hoo-ray! Finally! Where's that hardware shootout between the CloudBook, the EeePC and the Mac Book Air?
EEE wins. There you go. Cloudbook doesn't have built in wifi, and Air is DQ'd because it STILL ISN'T AN ULTRAPORTABLE.
So JD why would you put the MBA in the same category then if its not an Ultra PB like you said... YOU MAKE NO SENSE!!!
Benga- I didn't. I was responding to someone who put them into one category. Look at the context first, that's pretty important.

I did not know that website existed. Much thanks.
Looking at this useless laptop, do you guys feel like we're going backwards in time? It reminds me that "Friends" episode with Chandler's pre-historic laptop. first the portability was hip then the screen size, then power, now portability again dropping the rest up to a degree, in terms of this product, quite a lot...
So you think the EEE is useless too?
What is EEE?
"What is EEE?"
You don't come here much do you?
no actually I read everyday... Asus EEE is another needless product for mobile users, too. That's why doesn't come to your mind that fast :)) Of course it si agreat for kids...
Look, I'm not trying to insult the product, all I'm saying, for another 2-3 hundred dollars, you can gt much much more than this... That's all.
I disagree. I think my eee is great. I'm at College right now, and I have a powerful desktop as my primary computer. It's a great little machine, small enough to bring anywhere, affordable, and I'm not the only one. there are 3 students with eee's in one of my classes, so they're finding an audience. I think it's a great little device, not perfect, but for the price I don't expect it to be. The display could be bigger. But I won't complain because it's almost unreal that a device so affordable does all I need it to, in a nice size.
For that price, of course it is unbeatable... That is not the point though. I think it is all about waht you expect from it. For me portable pc should be powerful but not too bulky. That's why i've picked my current laptop. High resolution, decent HDD space, Wireless N, touch screen were my criteria and got me my current one.
For basic needs EEE seems to cut it.
It shows as Out of Stock but it also says "COMING SOON" on top of the listing.
Whats the sense in cloudbook i cant understand.many people are comparing it with asus eee pc
compound sentences without punctuation are the best especially when its your first comment ever especially when your username is spamming some site thats really the best thing eva
This is not exactly a Harvard paper, it's just off the cuff comments. Go easy.
None the less that is one unattractive, underpowered paperweight.
yaknow karma, that reminds me of the chris rock bit where people tell him he can go to college cuz he got a GED.
anyway, it's really the non-content of this post, along with the other evidence, that indicates it is spam. that the grammar is unintelligible is icing on the cake (but more fun to make fun of)
so your saying better to be a flamer than a spamer ok you win. Don't know this guy don't really care, I just like tech. What I don't like is people who feel superior for pointing out others mistakes. Now Flame away my friend Flame away.
wow, you're really bent out of shape, huh? but actually yes, i am saying that spammers are the bottom rung -- wow what a statement.
sorry humor = smug to you, you should look into that.
yet ppl buy the eee? wah??
Ok, Wal-Mart's site does not render correctly in FireFox. WTF? The Apple store does the same thing.
Could that be because Fire Fox SUX? Long live FLOCK!
@ scrcmedic
FLOCK is built on Firefox you idiot.
Next.
Yes it is.
Use Firefox 3beta3. It is the most W3C compliant browser available to the general public as of now. They got rid of a ton of bloat and the native GUI is awesome. (gnome user)
This pretty much made my mind up for me. I was going to get a cloudbook or ee but now I am going with an Averatec 12.1 that has better specs from a friend for 400. This has xp, 80gb hard drive and dvdrw along with a better everything. Her loss my gain on her wanting a bigger laptop after she forked over 900 new for it.
The current cloudbook configuration is rather "meh". A much more enticing configuration was the orginal Nanobook concept that had the removable modules you could put on the right hand side of the screen. That could be extremely useful if implemented correctly. Everything from a 3G card to GPS could be popped in and out and I think a lot of industrial and public sector industries could find applications for it.
The whole "its a real computer" approach with the full harddrive also makes it not that practical. Lowering the price and putting in Ram storage with SD card capabilities would be much more practical.
@ Mert I totally agree...this thing is like watching the old star trek on an anolog television set while TNG is playing in the other room on hd....why bother..this serves not even entry level users
@Bucky try Opera or if you're a fanboy u would like windows safari browser
i have the ee-PC for to travel and is good but when i to make the CD I can no find the place for it to go.
verb conjugation is your friend
Heck no. Why do you think I'm learning Japanese? Verb conjugation needs to go die.
Would you like me to email you when Lojban-II is ready? ^_^
It reminds me of one of those "My first computer" toys for 6yo's.
+1
Especially the screen and general outline, I don't know, I'd rather have a Windows Mobile device with a portable keyboard and external VGA output if necessary then this if it is about portability.
I've an HP Tx1000 series laptop with 12.1 inch WXGA screen and 2GB ram, AMD Truion x2, 160GB hdd space and all the good things, it is ultraportable, yes it is more expensive than this but if it not even answering the entry level user, why anyone would bother, save a little bit more, get a real laptop...
this was just on VH1's "I love the 90's"
right between Bret Michaels talking about his first cell phone and that bit about NBA's "Dream Team"..Knightrider was in there too i think
Also the size and the price...

It's twice as big and twice as heavy as the Asus EeePC. I'm sure it's a nice laptop but it just isn't as portable as th EeePC and not everyone needs much power on the road. Taking notes, cheking the mail and surfing the web is what is enough for quite a few people. Why pay twice as much for a laptop that's twice the size and twice the weight, if you don't even need the extra power?
In that case you don't...
Maybe it was just added, but there's an all-uppercase 'coming soon' on the WalMart Cloudbook page.
Remember compaq Aero. If that thing has 10.2" screen, instant on (via ssd), with express card Rev-a Gen II broadband, and vista lite-Embedded -I will cancel my cable, telco landline and stop going to the movies, I will gladly shell out 399US$. Not for that crap.
Site says it is currently "In Stock" now.
