LG halts sale of Z1-AE007 laptop, suspects defective battery
It's not like LG hasn't had issues with its batteries before, and even after confirming that they were unquestionably safe just last week, the firm has suddenly removed its Z1-AE007 from the market after suspecting that faulty batteries may be included. Reportedly, one of said models "caught fire" in Seoul and presumably startled the graduate student who owned it, but a company spokesperson stopped short of proclaiming that a recall was in order. Furthermore, the individual noted that "the matter should be consulted with the battery maker," essentially shoving every ounce of blame as far as humanly possible away from LG.[Via FarEastGizmos]

I wish we could go back to the days when batteries were all made in JAPAN.
Its obvious this chinese made stuff isn't cutting it. How many laptops have to go nuclear before we realize that CAFTA was a bad idea.

I guess you don't remember a little while back when sony recalled like 12+ million batteries because they exploded, caught fire or otherwise overheated badly?
Jap made batteries are known for exploding :\

I agree with Flashpoint, but unfortunately it will probably take either a death or very serious near death injury (both followed by large lawsuits) to get this to stop.

Unfortunately the battery in question last time are made in Japan. the battery caught fire in this incident is made by LG Chem in Korea.
But i agree that everyone should blame chinese since they made most goods (good or bad)

Two things,
1.) Remember all those JAPANESE batteries that exploded?
2.) CAFTA is a trade agreement regarding central america. What the fuck does that have to do with China?

A search of that model number, Z1-AE007, does not yield any results other than news stories about the problem.
I wonder what the real LG laptop model numbers are. I suspect they're trying to avoid a return/refund nightmare.
It would also be nice to have more information about the fires. During charging? Or during use?
Typical lack of information from the corporation -- causing perhaps unnecessary mistrust of ALL its products.
I blog laptop fires here,
http://exactproductsinc.com/WordPress/?cat=22
(along with lots of other fires caused by things left plugged in)
so please add a comment there if you find out what the real customer-visible model numbers are.
