Garmin launches nuvi 2x5 series, complete with MSN Direct
If you thought Garmin had exhausted all possible options at CES, you thought wrong. Here at CeBIT, the outfit has rolled out four new navigators for your routing pleasure, starting with the nüvi 205 (3.5-inch) and 205W (4.3-inch). These siblings both feature a 333MHz processor, Garmin's own HotFix technology to get your position on the double, the famed "Where Am I?" feature and the ability to snatch traffic information via MSN Direct when used with an optional receiver. Additionally, these two are set to include map choices such as the contiguous United States, Canada or regional sections of Europe. As for the higher-end 255 and 255W (pictured), they'll be all too similar save for the maps, which promise "comprehensive coverage of North America, Europe, Australia or New Zealand." Nice. I might pick up the 205W since it has a lower MSRP then the older 200W. However I noticed it has a shorter battery life.

Don't get me wrong, I love Garmin's products, but I just checked out their website, and I count 32 Nuvi type looking GPS devices. I know that some are geographic specific, but that seems excessive. I guess they have something for everyone....

I use a Garmin here in the US.
But when I am in Thailand I have yet to find any companies GPS that has good maps of Thailand, Laos, Viet Nam.
But not just going on out of date paper maps and dead reckoning has led to some very interesting adventures in traveling around SEA.

MSN Direct huh? So the unit's disabled until you use your Passport login? ;p

MSN Direct is really awesome. Have you actually used it lately? I bought one of the SPOT watches, and I get fast info. directly from my watch. So if I'm having this super long conversation with someone, and don't want to be rude and go away, I just fiddle around with my watch a bit.
And it's not Passport anymore. It's Live ID. And using your Live ID, it's easier to manager your content and have something for MS to save it to. So that the same content also works when you're using the real Internet.
I'm also guessing it's going to be good with these GPS devices that are rolling out lately.
