While not radically different than the
Satellite A300 and P300 we peeked late last month, Toshiba is rolling out yet another pair in the L300 (pictured) and U400. As for the former, you can expect a 15.4-inch 1,280 x 800 resolution panel, a 1.3-megapixel camera, integrated WiFi and the usual complement of ports. Moving onto the U400, you'll find a smaller 13.3-inch display, ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, built-in Harman Kardon speakers, integrated webcam / microphone, Bluetooth and WiFi to boot. Unfortunately, we're not told whether or not the L300 will be available with a Penryn chip, but word on the street has the April-bound U400 checking in with one of Intel's prior processors or a CPU from its arch rival AMD.

again with the ugliness, but that's my opinion.
Ubergeek @ Mar 5th 2008 4:10AM
the interesting question is: what will Toshiba focus on now that they don't have a HD optical drive??? cheap and portable PCs?
Steveorevo @ Mar 5th 2008 5:15AM
Wow, ugly too. I stopped buying Toshitty after 4 out of 3 I originally bought (yes 4 out of 3!?) of them failed on me. After the fire, they replaced it with yet another one that never worked... and phone support was hell. The only saving grace (curse?) was that I bought their extended warrenty through ServiceNET which resulted in being on hold and arguing for 3 years! I would have been better off if Toshiba just mugged me point blank.
I said enough. All of my Toshitty laptops were kept in clean rooms and dust free. Their DELL, HP, and SONY equibilents in the same room never had a single glitch.

I've never had a Toshiba break on me... even my 12 year old Portege ("designed for Windows 95") still runs fine.
However, if any other company decides to put analog volume controllers on their products, instead of those horrible unresponsive buttons, let me know.
This looks a bit less ugly than the A300... hopefully they're going to a less obtrusive speaker design.

Looks heavy too.
Well, when you own an Eee everything looks big and heavy to you lol.
Carl @ Mar 9th 2008 9:11AM
I was thinking exactly the same. I would never own anything bigger than a U2E now...

I think the U400 looks pretty sweet. Will be interesting to see if it comes with intel or AMD chip. The model in the 6th picture has a different hinge than the other ones, I wonder whats the deal with that.

i would never never never buy a toshiba in my life again. i have one that overheats in 5 min or less (and ive taken it apart about 12 times to clean, only helps a little), had the motherboard replaced because the power jack broke, and the memory is being held in with duct tape and chopstix because the computer wont recognize it otherwise. and this is a toshitty A70, supposed to be one of their "good" ones. oh yea, and forget about it being an actual laptop. so my suggestion is dont ever waste your time with toshiba because they make a horrible-quality product. i hope their whole company goes the way of HDDVD

I own a 17" Toshiba P200, it's not the prettiest laptop, or the lightest, but it hasn't let me down yet. It seems solid, and only overheats when I play Crysis or some other ridiculously new needy game.
My dad has an old(1gb hard drive :) ) Toshiba laptop, which still runs. They aren't bad, they're affordable, and they work.

Sorry to hear of your problems Drew, I have an acquaintance that has very similar issues with her laptop, and despite accidentally pulling it off of the kitchen table by it's power cord five or six times, she just doesn't "get it" why it's broken (must be the brand, right?).
I'm a cave explorer, and I've owned 2 Toshiba laptops, and never broken a one.
And two of my caver buddies have used Toshiba laptops for MANY YEARS(which is why I bought one), and despite being hauled into some NASTY, TIGHT, WET, VERTICAL caves, they have NEVER had ANY problems with their Toshiba's either.
You musta' got a lemon...
