We'd already heard about a
possible price cut to the Xbox 360, but it looks like that might not be all that Microsoft has in store, as TrustedReviews is now reporting that the 20GB hard drive in the standard Xbox 360 model is about to get the boot in favor of a more spacious 60GB one. That word apparently comes from a "rock solid source," who says that Microsoft wants to get it out the door by the end of its financial year, which comes at the end of June. TrustedReviews also goes into a bit of speculation, saying that Microsoft is "toying with the idea of introducing a new 360 SKU," and that a model with a built-in
Blu-ray drive would seem to be "the most logical conclusion," although they say an external drive "makes sense too." While that possibility obviously remains up in the air, TrustedReviews is about as confident as can be with the 60GB Xbox 360 news, saying that you can take it to the bank.
WOW, everyone is actually still doing the 360 vs. the Ps3 thing? It's simple really. Well, if you have an open mind that is. Each proves to have it's own positive. 360 has a major negative in the awesome RROD cheat code. PS3 has more raw power, but the games have yet to model it. 360 has a pretty decent array of games, a better designed controller, the best online out of the two, Arcade, and XNA on Arcade.
Yes, you have to pay for Live, however, it's well worth it. No, I do not have a PS3. I was so against it when it first came out since I am a FPS fan and Sony is more of RPG/Platform. Then I played it few games on it when I worked at GameCrazy and though I was impressed, I was not going to up and buy it with less than a hand full of games I like. I will get it when there are at least 7 games I just have to have or I upgrade my entertainment center.
Anyway, if a bigger HD is available, cool. I still have 10GB of my 20 left from 2 years ago. My movies and my music are on my pc. My 360 is for gaming. I say this because my biggest issue is not anything all of you feel so compelled to discuss, but something that no one has mention yet, DRM. When I upgrade to the Elite, because I fell that is a far better value if I am going to gt the PS3, the stupid DRM that Redmond has yet to address as a major concern, will not allow me to play the Arcade games I have bought with my hard earned MicroPoints on the new system unless I am connected on line. Ri-F'ing-diculous! My purchase, my games. Give em back Microsoft. FIX IT!
excuse me but the playstation controller is MUCH better!
@rodney
No, it isn't.
The 360 controller fixes the only flaw I ever found in the Xbox S-Type controller, which was the stupid white and black buttons. Putting them above the triggers made the 360 controller perfect.
Now on the PS3, the analog stick placement is absolutely awful. They were an afterthought of the PS1 controller, which originally didn't have them at all. You'd think Sony would have realized with the PS2 that a re-design was needed, but nope, same old terrible design.
The 360 controller, for me, is much more comfortable compared to the sixaxis, and the swapable battery pack gives it a big plus... but the fact that its D-pad SUCKS ass cannot be ignored.
um, may i ask when?
I actually have now sent my Xbox 360 twice to MSFT. I think that its out of warranty now. First mod I will try is the HDD one to get the 120GB. I have located the needed WD drive type. It takes about an hour to get a 120GB HDD for your 360 then the 20 or "new and advanced" 60GB HDD.
PC 4X Blu-Ray Drive is about $145, much cheaper at cost. If MS wants to they'll add it in, they kind of see both formats as a failure because they are no where near ready for the masses. At the end of the day we use the 360 to play games. The PS3 is used to find aliens,black holes,Jimmy Hoffa and fight cancer,leukemia and other stuff also for watching Blu-Ray and installing Linux. The most important or should be the most important aspect is playing games and that keeps getting pushed to the bottom. A Blu-Ray drive for the 360 sits in the same position as HD-DVD did, its a matter of choice. This can pan out like the following: If I was a 360 owner would like to watch Blu-Ray movies then I'll buy the add-on and not the $400 PS3. That would unfortunately take sales away from PS3.
Its about time for the larger hd! My 20 gig is full of demos and videos. This will allow it to compete a lot better against the ps3. Im getting really sick of all the loading/installing times on my ps3. Every new demos takes forever to install and new games i rent take even longer because they have to install to the hd. What a pain in the ass! Xbox = almost no load/install times!
When they make it so my 360 plays AVI over media center extender, I'll care...or just let me boot windows on my xbox 360, then I'll be happy...otherwise...it's the same ol' stuff that I'd have to deal with anyway.
How about internal wi-fi? The fact that I have to spend an extra $100 to get online almost makes me want to buy the PS3.
Ethernet is better anyway. Stop whining and run a cable.
Or you could just spend a couple of bucks for a CAT5 cable...not that big of a deal
Took the words right out of my mouth Raptor, thanks :-)
Or plug it into a cheap ($10) wireless router and use it as a bridge
The 360 really needs 120gb as a standard. With XBLA games chipping away at it, and Xbox Originals taking bigger chunks, you really need it. Rock Band DLCs alone will probably fill up my sad little 20gb drive before much longer.
Will 60GB drives still be available in June? That seems to be a weird thing to offer considering Sony got rid of the 60GB probably because it was cheaper to get 80GB drives since most of the manufacturers were geared towards that. I would think Sony would want a 120GB drive or something similar. Then again, I don't work for Microsoft.
As long as the Arcade version has a hdd, I'll be fine.
PLEASE make the drive external!!!
MS needs to release a whole new version of the 360 which seperates it once and for all from the technical issues the current model suffers. They need a 360 slim or what have you, and whilst they're at it they may as well at least match what the competition (PS3) offers which would be wifi, card readers, blu-ray and a bigger hard drive. Oh, and reliability.
Microsoft should ditch the hdd and offer 2TB of online storage. Since few people would use the full 2TB they'd get the most bang for their buck. An advantage would be hosting your own website from their server so you could help pay for all your gaming through online ads.
@jay park
where did you get a ps 3 for 299 and please dont say sony card program not everyone has good credit or money to throw away like that
Okay, this is spiffy and all, but what will then really set the X360 Elite apart besides the 120GB drive and the black-ness of the system?
Built-in Blu-Ray and a larger drive; all for the same price? Direct and unequivocal competition with the PS3?
I believe microsoft getting rid of the 20 gb hd would be a good move. In fact, they should get rid of all of small drives and look into adding larger hd's up to 500 gb. Why? Well they already are looking into being a leader in download digital media(xbox live). So why don't they add a massive hd so we can just download our xbox 360 games. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of discs. Wouldn't it be great to just purchase and download 360 games and switch between games without getting off the couch? A 300 gb would store about 30 games while a 500 gb would store about 50 games in dvd 9 format. To me that is alot of games! This move would also get them more money out of xbox live. People would be getting more subscriptions to xbox live to download games. That is what I think "next gen" intitles!
yes
