iPod nano sparks bedroom fire, no humans harmed
Oddly enough, this isn't the first time we've seen a product proudly designed in Cupertino erupt, but it's pretty safe to say this story could have had a much more tragic ending. Reportedly, an iPod nano owner recently awoke to a blaring fire alarm around 2:00AM, only to find his beloved PMP wrapped in flames on the bedroom floor. Thankfully, the fire was tiny enough to be extinguished without any major trouble, and no substantial damage of property or human flesh was tallied. As of now, we've no idea if the unit simply exploded or if surrounding circumstances are at least partly to blame, but you can bet your bottom dollar that be sleeping with one eye open (and on our media players) tonight.

Who leaves their iPod on the bedroom floor?
Teenagers

Who makes the batteries for Apple's iPod Nano players?

Nano smoke.
Don't breathe that.
I LOLed!
Nano smoke.
Don't breathe that.
I'm just waiting for the warning label that will be included on all LiIon powered electronics:
Warning
May erupt into flames and/or explode causing injury, death, or a state-wide forest fire. Suggested to never charge the battery. Ever.
Smells more like bullshiet, lol. look closely at the rest of the pictures, the part of the headphone jack that did not catch fire is strip lol. Am pretty sure i can re create the same thing on a older Nano is i short circuit the player. Well as they say a picture is worth a thousand words lol
No...
thats what generally happens to apple headphones...
when you use them alot, specially as this is an older ipod, it would have been used quite a bit.
can you even short circuit something from the headphones
=S
If short-circuiting the headphones can cause the player to burst into flames, there's still a problem.
Nice Tits!
(i couldn't resist)

Could a Toyota Prius spontaneously combust like this? It would be insane to see a Prius in the oncoming traffic lane blow sky high. Not good for the passengers though.
The iPod contains a lithium-ion battery, which has a history of catching fire in laptops. Since December 2005 these batteries have been blamed for meltdowns and fires in several computers. Last year several manufacturers, including Apple, Dell Inc., and Lenovo Group Ltd. were forced to recall millions of the batteries.
Let's not give this dude anymore credence please. Darwin is rolling over as we type.
One, he's got his headphones running into what looks like a stripped cable. "Why" is anyone's guess. Just couldn't part with those Apple brand buds, huh? Money's that tight? Sell the PS3.
Two, he's got the whole mangled mess of wires looped around themselves. I sense that Mr. Faraday has just joined Mr. Darwin in his posthumous subterranean twisting and turning.
Three, I have a gut feeling that all this could have been averted had this guy taken his headphones out, or just spent the money on a new or not-homemodded extension lead for them.

An iPod Nano fire was hot enough to trigger off the fire alarm?
You could start charging and storing your beloved iPod device in the lipo sack:

I couldn't get to the link for the story. How did such a small fire trigger off the fire alarm and not the smoke and sprinkler system instead?
2 charge-from-plug chargers have made TWO of my iPods melt - the things must have some fault and should be retracted. My house could have burnt down!
They get very very hot near the entry point of that iPod cable then melt and after reading this I guess catch fire - investigation ! !
Isn't interesting that the iPod is the only mp3 player known to have caught fire? We've not heard about other mp3 players such as the ZEN catching fire.
