Mac SE gutted, converted into toilet paper dispenser
We've seen antiquated Macs given new life as fish tanks and living room decorations, but the iWipe takes repurposing to an entirely different level. As you can clearly see in the image above, one particular engineering soul figured a spare Macintosh SE case would look a whole lot better in his bathroom than in the trash, so he whipped out a screwdriver, removed some internal brackets and gave the unit a fresh coat of paint. $15 and a few hours later, out popped his new toilet paper dispenser. Check out the read link for a bunch more pics -- oh, and stop second guessing yourself, you're totally building one of these next weekend.

And mac fanboy's cry out in pain and anguish upon opening engadget this morning.
technophobe @ Mar 10th 2008 9:08AM
Is there any other use for a Mac?
Kamokazi @ Mar 10th 2008 9:10AM
And everyone else scours eBay for Mac SE's so they can all claim they wipe their ass with a Mac! Gives a whole new meaning to the term,'Crapple'.
Greg @ Mar 10th 2008 10:02AM
"Is there another use for a Mac?"
Well, computing, for one.
Ignatius @ Mar 10th 2008 10:30AM
I wouldn't want anything Apple in my house, even if I did crap on it.
Raymond @ Mar 10th 2008 11:15AM
Woz must be rolling around in his grave right now.
sk8rpro @ Mar 10th 2008 2:44PM
Wouldn't that be painful to reach all the way down for toilet paper? I'm use to toilet paper being a bit reachable.
Digg @ Mar 10th 2008 8:59AM
Dugg!

Stop spamming.
Ellianth @ Mar 10th 2008 9:03AM
That's a lot of bending just to get a piece of toilet paper. And eww, the leading piece of tp will be touching the floor.
Anthony @ Mar 10th 2008 2:24PM
First thing I thought. Now if he'd done it w/ a green bar printer (& could have it replicate the clickity-click sound while dispensing) you could put it on a stand.
Chad @ Mar 10th 2008 9:05AM
Most people are too fat to bend over that far.
DT @ Mar 10th 2008 9:12AM
Thanks for letting us know how fat you are, Chad.
bicock @ Mar 10th 2008 9:24AM
mac user are use to bend...
Tits @ Mar 10th 2008 9:24AM
but... will it bend?
Chad @ Mar 10th 2008 9:52AM
No, not fat. Just observing.
Barry @ Mar 10th 2008 10:16AM
Fat or not, that's in an awkward position. Not only do you have to bend all the way down to the floor, you have to turn around to reach it. Way too much maneuvering and risk of falling over where there should be none.
roole @ Mar 10th 2008 10:17AM
Not Mac users, Chad.
Chad @ Mar 10th 2008 12:36PM
Yeah that's because they are what, about 6% of the total world's population?
ssuk @ Mar 10th 2008 12:59PM
Chad, last word was that Apple computers make up 5% of computers worldwide. Not everyone owns a computer.
zargon @ Mar 10th 2008 9:08AM
Complete waste of time, it isn't even cool.

Macs are crap
but not every one of them I must admit
LJKelley @ Mar 10th 2008 4:20PM
Those old Macs were crap... I had them in computer lab and they were always freezing. I mean people criticise Windows 95/98, but I remember being careful to save constantly my working in Typing Class. My Windows computer at home was much better.
aardvark sandwich @ Mar 10th 2008 9:15AM
Are there going to be refurbished versions available? ^__^
zed @ Mar 10th 2008 10:05AM
do you really want used toilet paper?
James @ Mar 10th 2008 9:30AM
Sucks when you have to break out a Torx-15 wrench and case-cracker when you're holding the last sheet off the roll and not finished "taking care of business"
kryptonian00 @ Mar 10th 2008 12:15PM
its the same as trying to upgrade ram on your iBook, You have to unscrew like 50 things and take stuff out to add some ram. lol
Kizorblade @ Mar 10th 2008 9:32AM
I think the best use for this would be if it's on it's back. The toilet paper is touching the floor... egh.
tubeplus @ Mar 10th 2008 9:33AM
Wouldn't it be better if that was made out of a tower case that has a Windows logo on it, and getting rid of the 3.5" front cover for toilet paper storage. U can put several rolls in it at a time.
stardash @ Mar 10th 2008 10:00AM
iCrap?
Josef @ Mar 10th 2008 10:14AM
Everybody poops.
Ignatius @ Mar 10th 2008 10:28AM
Why does it need a Windows logo for that?
love40mp @ Mar 10th 2008 1:11PM
How about iCrap Pro? Comes with a hardwipe?
mastershake @ Mar 10th 2008 9:41AM
that is one of the coolest things ever
willyboy @ Mar 10th 2008 9:44AM
I did this with my PC, but it did not look near as good.
trumpton @ Mar 10th 2008 9:44AM
Phew! Being sa Monday I thought Engadget might be struggling to find excuses to keep Apple articles on the front page, but this superb non story has come up trumps.
The fact that it doesn't even work as a toilet roll holder clearly doesn't matter because This Is News.
Chad @ Mar 10th 2008 12:37PM
You've got that right!
Stiv @ Mar 10th 2008 10:00AM
"Crapintosh?"
absurdio @ Mar 10th 2008 4:36PM
Hah. Man. I can see why that one's highest ranked. Get it? Crapintosh?!
Comedic brilliance.
God. I just wish someone would make an iCrap joke.
hold on...
eEZER @ Mar 10th 2008 10:15AM
iCrap, therefor I am.
Clockwork @ Mar 10th 2008 10:20AM
nnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
blasphemy
roole @ Mar 10th 2008 10:21AM
Whatever pleases the end user!
I hate to disparage the Mac - I love Macs - but I can't resist: An anagram for M-a-c-i-n-t-o-s-h is Mac-On-****.
andy @ Mar 10th 2008 10:34AM
I hope you don't need a Torx driver to change the roll!!
w00t @ Mar 10th 2008 10:39AM
I really can't understand the complaints about the paper touching the floor, you're about to wipe shit all over it anyway!
Why would anyone care about getting a bit of floor dust on their arse when its covered in shit?
Seth A @ Mar 10th 2008 3:51PM
Oh man, that had me rolling on the floor. Thank you for a sane point of view. Seriously, if they are that grossed out by the paper touching the floor, I seriously doubt their attentiveness to being clean would allow their floors to be dirty at all. As for the computer, I have one in the basement, summer project? Not that I would use it, but, i get bored I suppose.
Brian Paul Ehni @ Mar 10th 2008 10:44AM
This is old news.
I did, however, turn my Mac SE into a touch-screen Mac Mini, complete with TV.
absurdio @ Mar 10th 2008 4:39PM
...did you really?
Now, that sounds like a worthwhile project.
Got a link?
