Pushing pixels is great and all, but sometimes we've just got a hankering to see how far those dollars can stretch, and
Averatec's 2575 laptop mostly satisfies those urges. For $1100 you get Vista Home Premium running on an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core chip, with 2GB of RAM, ATI RS690 integrated graphics, 250GB of HDD and a Super Multi DVD drive. The 12.1-inch screen runs at 1280 x 800, and sports a 1.3 megapixel webcam. There's even ExpressCard 34 / 54 and a 4-in-1 memory card reader, and the whole shebang weighs in at 3.9 pounds and 1.5-inch thick. It's available now.
I'm sure the cynics/trolls are going to bash this thing for one reason or another, but I think thats a real nice setup for the value.
This is an awesome deal for this advanced degree of technology.
Just wish it could be less than 3.9 pounds - that is still a slight problem for some of us
Yeah, because 3.9 pounds is a bone crusher.
3.9 pounds is just too much for some of us ^^
...aka women.
Yeh great power for the price but those Turions X2 run very hot (my HP sporting a 1.6 GHz X2 has melted down twice and burnt my leg several times.)
They also devour batteries so I'd rather pay more to go for a cool running C2D.
I used to love my old Athlon 64 when are AMD going to sort out their mobile chips ?
does it play crysis?
mattchow, YES at ultra low settings and you might want to brace you self for the speed.
anyway 12" with decent cpu & memory + big HD for 1100 USD is awesome!
If you put it at 3*3 resolution I can really bet it runs at Very high.
That's precisely the setup I was looking for. Just the right size for me - small enough to be portable, powerful enough to be used daily on the desk. A perfect replacement for my aging and since discontinued Dell 700m.
Where are the Intel fanboys? They sleeping in?
Good value on this. AMD is great!!!
Yeah, except Average-a-tec likes to make disposable laptops that fall apart after 11 months. Ive owned one sotec (company was named sotec before changing names to averatec). My wife and I bought one averatec each...both fell apart after a few months. AVOID THIS COMPANY..
I don't know about all that. -I've had an Averatec 3700 12-incher, and it's been rock-solid. I don't frisbee it across the room, but I'm hardly gentle with it either. It's traveled well, and really been a nice, inexpensive laptop. Maybe I got lucky, but I'm guessing not.
Averatecs are so bad..even their fan's forums can't keep their hard drives working
Yeah, because Averatec manufactures their own hard drives [/sarcasm]
Personal opinion from a previously owned Averatec:
Poor case construction
Poor heat dissipation
Battery Life and total recharge life was low
Too fragile
But perhaps they've made improvements.
But truly, for Averatec's pricing, you get your money's worth.
Averatec laptops are great products, I don't know where the above posters can say that their not made well..... I'm using one right now ( A model N2370 ) And this is my second Averitec product, ( still using the first one too )
Great products at a great price
Customer service is great too
You can't go wrong
The above posters should look into a Tough Book, But, they are big bucks...
Oh, how I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner...
I have an Averatec 3225 from when I first ever heard of Averatec, still going strong after almost 5 years. It's a hot-running little bastard, but it never fails me. I would buy another.
I own an Averatec 1050 (Their 10.6" ultra-portable). It's a fantastic machine, and it's never given me any problems. Maybe Averatec's bigger laptops have issues, but this one is rock solid. Then again, it cost quite a lot.
no bluetooth? I was going to buy one right now, but having no bluetooth is a deal breaker for me... and USB dongle simply doesn't cut it, maybe a pcie express adapter?
Ever heard of externam USB Bluetooth adapters?
well, have you heard what is a dongle? I said: "and USB dongle simply doesn't cut it, maybe a pcie express adapter?"
I don't want a dongle, i want it integrated... I don't want an external USB dongle sticking out. Maybe a PCIE card that resides inside the card slot and doesn't stick out?
Everex's 12.1 laptops (both Intel and AMD) run in the $549-$599 range for slightly lower specs. But RAM and harddrives are easy to upgrade if needed, so I couldn't justify spending 2X as much on another less-known-brand-name laptop. $1100 is not a deal for a 12.1 laptop, I got my dell D410 12.1 laptop for $750 brand new 2 years ago.
My old Averatec 12.1" Intel Centrino laptop just fried. First all 3 USBs burned out, then the power connection and motherboard burned out. The screen was loose and wobbly the whole time I owned it. This was by far the worst computer I ever owned and their support is terrible.
Isn't that the MSI PR210?
www.averatecforums.com
Did you see the feature list?? One of them in "No intergrated optical drive"!!
Sound familiar?
Averatec's laptops are all rebranded, the 1000/1500 series for example is rebranded from Twinhead and some other models from MSI and so on.
So some of their notebooks will vary in quality. I do like their 1000 series, rebranded Twinhead F10 series.
It looks like they are out of business in the U.S though, since their website hasn't been updated since May 2007.
They are based in Korea.
this is great for AMD
finaly some laptops with good specs, realy hope there will be a updated one with RS780 grpahics aka 780M with HD 3200 and meybe Hybrid Graphics
Averatec=poop.
I have worked in IT support for an ungodly amount of years. Averatec lappies had somthing around a 40% failure rate within one year of purchase, and 70% within 2 years. Wasn't limited to a single model - didn't seem to matter which one was purchased - it most likely would fail.
For those of you who had luck with the machines... It will most likely run out someday.
They are great little machines and the company is stand up. Have had mine for three plus years with zero problems, looks great, has great desing, and is a pleasure to use anytime. Also the old screen form factor is great. I still don't get it why they shitty turn to widescreen for a few dvd watching bozos...very stupid move indeed when most people want the real estate vertically.
