Nintendo's Wii Wheel priced at $14.99
We've known that Nintendo would be bundling a single Wii Wheel in with the forthcoming Mario Kart Wii title, but now it seems that folks riding shotgun (or riding your tail) can grab one of their own. According to a recently released flyer from GameStop, extra Wheels -- should the plethora of steering apparatuses already out there not suffice -- will be sold for a cool $14.99 each. April 27th just seems so, so far away, doesn't it? Check the flyer in full after the jump.[Thanks, Pat]

WOW
I can't wait to buy that useless piece of plastic!
Megati, Megata, Megator!
thef1re @ Mar 29th 2008 6:29PM
cheaper than buying the kids a logitech wireless racing wheel
uclatommy @ Mar 29th 2008 7:22PM
Don't get your panties in a bunch. Third parties will come out with exactly the same thing, except they'll sell it for $5 and make a fortune.
Carl Vitullo @ Mar 29th 2008 7:45PM
actually they'll probably try to sell them for $20.
John @ Mar 29th 2008 7:46PM
They also forget to mention that the wheel itself is only 8"-9" in diameter, so adults will look rather stupid using it.
Flyy;; @ Mar 29th 2008 7:50PM
it's actually been available at 5below (the 5 dollar store) for months now..
John Bailey @ Mar 29th 2008 8:43PM
@John
Is there any way to play a Wii game and look dignified?
Expensive Plastic @ Mar 30th 2008 12:56PM
Just duct tape your Wii remote to a Frisbee.
Done.
Matt @ Mar 30th 2008 6:07PM
Good thing we're all mature enough to not care about how we look when we play a game, right?
Nascar Wannabe @ Mar 30th 2008 6:45PM
Holding a steering wheel in front of you - just a wheel, nothing connected to it - seems pretty much like holding a Frizbee in front of you.
Come to think of it, holding a Frizbee in front of you doesn't look quite as dumb.
I wonder if it matters much just how far off-center you duct tape the Wii remote?
Paul @ Mar 29th 2008 6:32PM
can you play the game without this wheel? i don't see the appeal of using the wheel, not much more immersive than just a wiimote
peshue @ Mar 29th 2008 7:02PM
Yeah you can. But the game expects you to hold it up with the buttons facing you (like with the wheel). So if you hold it sideways it's not as sensitive, but if you try to hold right it'd be uncomfortable.
Josh* @ Mar 29th 2008 7:21PM
It's just an aid, to keep you from "oversteering" (where you turn the Wiimote so far it stops registering as a turn, I stumbled onto that issue during ExciteTruck)
Blah @ Mar 29th 2008 8:11PM
You can also play with a gamecube controller.
Fusion @ Mar 29th 2008 6:33PM
that useless piece plastic looks well fun to use with Mario Kart, lol, cant wait to get that game
superfresh @ Mar 29th 2008 10:00PM
Is it just me, or was not calling this thing a Wiil a missed opportunity?
austin @ Mar 30th 2008 1:11AM
same as not calling it 'wiimote' was a missed opportunity
Josh* @ Mar 30th 2008 7:03AM
@austin
I guess Nintendo didn't want to be faced with potential lawsuits concerning a loss of proper diction in today's youth.
It probably would have happened.
Matt @ Mar 30th 2008 6:11PM
Oh, I've been calling it the Wiil since I first saw it, and I'll continue to.
Joel @ Mar 29th 2008 6:39PM
Kids should just make one in shop class instead.
Rob @ Mar 29th 2008 6:46PM
I completely agree with you. Let's hope there's an inspiring educator amongst us here and decides to come up with a project for his/her students creating a steering wheel for their gaming console. I think paying $15 for a stupid piece of plastic, is well, stupid.
Flashpoint @ Mar 29th 2008 7:55PM
I'm a proponent of vocational education, but the sad truth is, kids in public schools are so badly behaved nowadays that letting them into a class like this is dangerous.
Nevermind the parents itching to sue if their kids get injured.
Funny thing is, in China, 4th graders in numerous schools are taught how to solder wires and circuits (I kid you not).
I've seen Chinese schooling after having lived there and the kids are very well behaved and easily managable by even the weakest of American substitute teachers.
miko34 @ Mar 29th 2008 7:08PM
This makes just as upset when I bought a new coffee maker for $18 only because I needed the carafe and the carafe alone costs $15.
Now I'm gonna wait until Mario Kart is $20. This wheel should cost 7 bucks and not a penny more. Take that Corporate America (or in this case Japan).
Josh* @ Mar 30th 2008 7:05AM
You don't....have.... to buy it....
holycow @ Mar 29th 2008 7:09PM
hey 10$ discount on Guitar Hero!
bigd7387 @ Mar 29th 2008 7:09PM
Let's see, I plug in my Gamecube controller and push start. No way would I play these games with a remote control. Who's dumb enough to spend $14.99 for this anyways and if they are can't they just send me that money in my pay-pay account?
kevin_ho @ Mar 30th 2008 12:11AM
dont you mean paypal?
ReggieXuk @ Mar 29th 2008 7:09PM

gabriel suarez @ Mar 29th 2008 9:23PM
I think Ill just stick with my GC controller, thanks anyway.
Tired_ @ Mar 29th 2008 11:35PM
This should have come with a battery booster thingie for the controller, at the very least.
sdh @ Mar 30th 2008 12:27AM
I got so upset about their pricing so I took the freedom of designing and pateting my own wheel.
It will be priced $2.99 and will have an optional beer holder that you can attach to it.
Beer holder will cost $14.99. Hitting the store shelves soon!

Why not just get this? http://www.amazon.com/DreamGear-DGWII-1047-Wii-Racing-Wheel/dp/B0011YRV2E/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1206856416&sr=1-6
Much better as it sits on a desk or table. However, you loose your mid-air tricks...
Phoenix @ Mar 30th 2008 6:01AM
Asshole, take your spam somewhere else. And who needs the baseball bat and stuff? it's a waste of money! at least the wheel and the Wii zapper help you hold the stuff right
stromm @ Mar 30th 2008 11:34AM
peshue wrote "But the game expects you to hold it up with the buttons facing you (like with the wheel). So if you hold it sideways it's not as sensitive, but if you try to hold right it'd be uncomfortable."
That's not true. If you would have used the wiimote for racing games you would know this.
Wiimote wheels (which by the way author have been on sale pretty much since the Wii came out) help stabalize the remote and make it easier to hold.
oberon0 @ Mar 30th 2008 3:04PM
the wii is serious business...
