HTC's Touch Dual makes US debut at CTIA
Brace yourself, US-based Touch Dual lovers -- the handset that your Japanese / European friends have been taunting you with for months is finally making the trip stateside. Slated to launch "later this quarter" (at Best Buy initially, of all places), the US Touch Dual will come rocking Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, TouchFLO, Office Mobile, Live HTC Home, a 2-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM support and HSDPA connectivity. Sadly, HTC didn't give us the pleasure of knowing a price, but we'll be keeping an ear to the ground for more exact details surrounding the release.

Finally, a non iPhone looking device!
mac @ Apr 1st 2008 1:50PM
And by "iPhone-looking device" you mean black, rounded-box filled mostly with a touchscreen, right? I bet no one else ever thought of that before Apple...
Argot @ Apr 1st 2008 3:22PM
You mean a non LG Prada looking device. It would be nice to see companies like Apple come up with their own designs instead of stealing them....
Johnny @ Apr 1st 2008 1:37PM
Sexy little device there.
KnightRider @ Apr 1st 2008 1:38PM
I got burned by the Tilt/8925/kaiser. I am not touching anything until a decent android and/or iPhone 2 comes out.
PhilxBefore @ Apr 1st 2008 4:44PM
What do you mean burned?!
The TILT is an EXCELLENT device!
Though I am shamed to admit I have the iPhone app launcher, virtual cube, and S2U on mine..
;)
PynkFloydd @ Apr 1st 2008 8:18PM
@KnightRider: They're not bad devices once you start adding some customized interfaces to them. I'm finally happy with my Mogul (PPC-6800) after they unlocked Rev. A and GPS. I started playing around with the stuff on XDA and PPCGeeks. I bet it'd make you a LOT happier with your device if you found a custom ROM or personalized app that'd streamline the Tilt for you.
@PhilxBefore: You should check out the new version of HTC Home Customizer. It might get rid of some of that guilt. It's free and offers more functionality than the iPhone app launcher. ...and it's got over 100 different themes. Plus, you can use your own background since it's a home screen plugin and you can set the transparency.
PhilxBefore @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:48PM
Thanks PynkFloydd

The reason for Bestbuy launch has to do with Besbuy's new department. It's called Bestbuy mobile. Basically alot more devices and carriers. No more MP3s in that department. Looks interesting considering Bestbuy usually has cheaper prices on devices than at carriers.
Alexander @ Apr 1st 2008 3:00PM
HAHAHA! That's a good one! Best Buy 'Mobile' Department!

g.sheff @ Apr 1st 2008 1:48PM
New devices for Bestbuy has to do with their new department, Bestbuy Mobile.
BioWare #1 @ Apr 1st 2008 1:49PM
HTC phones (had 2 now) have always been good for me, though I can't speak for the kaiser.
But "initially Best Buy" = No T-mobile.
*Sigh*
If you're going to lock me into a contract until I qualify for Medicare, could you at least give me some decent phones to play with?
Leshy @ Apr 1st 2008 9:02PM
Best Buy does sell T-Mobile in some of their stores, just not the majority of them. You'll probably able to find it on Best Buy's unlocked store online.
Matt @ Apr 1st 2008 1:56PM
I just have to say, i LOVE that Engadget's background is magenta today. Stick it to those Germans!
granny down east @ Apr 1st 2008 1:56PM
Love the "magenta" splash.
T-Mo = no.
Christian Martin @ Apr 1st 2008 1:56PM
It's obviously just the way the light reflects off the indention where the earpiece is located, but at a glance it looks like an Apple logo up top.
Dankoozy @ Apr 1st 2008 1:58PM
Another forgetable, generic looking Windows mobile device. honestly, those things are all so similar its not even funny. and Windows mobile certainly isn't anything to write home about
Billy @ Apr 1st 2008 2:39PM
And what phone do you have? At least winmo is versatile and skinnable, unlike certain other devices...
Rob Schoenfeld @ Apr 1st 2008 3:38PM
Unlike Apple's generic looking hardware? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. The Iphone has a great ui however.
Dubb @ Apr 1st 2008 2:00PM
Does it still have terrible drivers?
dBs @ Apr 1st 2008 2:06PM
And by terrible drivers you actually mean NO drivers.
Manny @ Apr 1st 2008 2:07PM
Terrible drivers + 2100Mhz HSDPA + no WiFi on HTC Touch Dual = Fail.
i3lack @ Apr 11th 2008 12:05AM
What drivers friend? The touch dual released in the US will have quad band GSM and dual HSDPA, thats why its a US release[based on my research so far]. You wont need wifi with 3G.
atomicmatt @ Apr 1st 2008 2:12PM
I will stick with my HTC Touch Cruise
guerilla779 @ Apr 1st 2008 2:47PM
is it just my PC or has engadget changed the background color to PINK ?
sorry....i know its off the topic !
SuperNatural @ Apr 1st 2008 2:56PM
its magenta... engadget is sticking it to the man
PhilxBefore @ Apr 1st 2008 4:47PM
Must be yours, mine looks fine to me.
Your computer must have come out of the closet for April Fool's day!

decypher44 @ Apr 1st 2008 3:11PM
Bravo, Engadget, bravo!!! Magenta is great this time of year. Douche Teleknobs can suck it!
MattyG @ Apr 1st 2008 3:28PM
nice phone, shame about the os
SNP @ Apr 1st 2008 4:51PM
I have the non-US version, the reception is worse than half of what I get from Curve on EDGE and the battery is about 1/3. I know it's kinda Apple to Orange (no pun intended) but still...
CB17 @ Apr 1st 2008 5:34PM
Did everyone completely miss the front facing camera? Is that REAL???
henry @ Apr 1st 2008 6:04PM
a friend of mine in Berlin has one of these and I got to mess with it when i visited. it's surprisingly thin for a slider, and the display is gorgeous. can't wait till they have one here. either that, or a Tilt on some carrier other than att. the european black version is so much cooler looking than at&t's ghey color scheme.
john @ Apr 1st 2008 6:42PM
I owned a HTC Touch from Sprint and sold it and switched to an iPhone. Night and day difference. On a scale of 1-10 the Touch is a 5 and the iPhone is a 9.5! I've owned Palm, Treo, Moto Q, and Blackberry phones but none of them compare to the iPhone.
Nitin Kumar @ Apr 1st 2008 9:48PM
Hey guys whats with the bright pink background color for the engadget page... Kinda make me feels like visiting some girlie shoppers website...
Nitin Kumar @ Apr 1st 2008 9:51PM
ok ok.... i didn't see the poster above me.. cheers,
