Toshiba unveils Satellite X205-SLi5 and X205-SLi6 laptops
Back in February, Toshiba saw fit to dish out the Penryn-powered X205-SLi2 and X205-SLi4 laptops; fast forward a couple months, and here we are yet again with two more updates in the X205 series. The latest duo of 17-inchers -- the X205-SLi5 and X205-SLi6 -- each pack the same pair of 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPUs and a 1,440 x 900 resolution panel, but the latter ups the ante with a more powerful 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo T8300 processor. Furthermore, you'll find room for up to 4GB of RAM along with dual 160GB HDDs, Harman Kardon speakers, 802.11a/g/n WiFi, dual-layer DVD writer, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. As for the X205-SLi6, you'll find a potent 2.5GHz T9300 under the hood along with 400GB of total HDD space, but basically everything else remains identical to that found on its lower-spec'd sibling. Check 'em out right now for $1,999 and $2,499, respectively.

These kind of laptops are for more than just browsing the net and creating spreadsheets, listening to music and watching films. but i really dont get it. If you are buying a computer for playing games why would you spend $2000-3000 on what equates to a mid range desktop when for the same money you could buy a MEGA desktop that can run Crysis at over 10FPS!

Thinking about it you could buy a MEGA desktop for Crysis and a nice little laptop for your spreadsheets and flims/music for these sort of $$$'s

These laptops are designed for gamers on the move.
You cant exactly carry around a huge desktop around for LAN parties.
The purpose of these are to lie around on a desk for weeks, till you are invited to a LAN party where you need a high end machine. Would you rather have a desktop, or a laptop then?

I have the X205-SLI1 and love it. I game a lot on the go, and this machine is perfect for that. Granted, a desktop of similar power is a fair bit cheaper, but the fact that I can sit in my easy chair and game makes it well worth the cost.
Oddly enough, the best part about this laptop are the speakers. They sound good enough that even when I'm at my desk, I don't hook them up to my 5.1 setup. Sure, the 5.1 setup sounds nicer, but the built in are good enough that its not worth the hassle.

"Gamers are too fat and lazy to move!"
Unless they're bouncing to a LAN party

yes on a whole, unless they hear about a LAN tournament. Then they are probably the fastest of all humans.

Hello,
What is the game in the laptop screen?
Thanks.

Ever since the 8800 GTX became standard for 17-inch laptops (and was even packed into a 15 inch courtesy of Alienware), and the 8600 GS was jammed into a 13-inch ultraportable courtesy of LG, I really don't see the point of having an 8600GT in a 17 inch notebook. Underpowered and bloated, anyone?

I got their Sli1 in Jan for $1,999.99 and everything works great except for the SLI video card mode does not work...
But I can run nearly all my games at 1440x900 and full quality modes. (Except for Crysis, if I could get SLI to work than Crysis would probably work great!)

It's so......ugly.
