Modder swaps touchscreen into Everex Cloudbook
Not content with just ordering a touchscreen-packin' Cloudbook from Japan, Azazel decided to take matters into his own wonder-working hands and hack up his vanilla unit to include the oh-so-coveted touch support. Based on his reports, disassembling the rig and stuffing the new panel in was a lesson in simplicity (save for one quick round with a soldering iron), but actual usability proved to be somewhat of a letdown. It was noted that using the small screen with just a fingertip was challenging, and while relying on a pen did make things marginally easier, we'd think long and hard about your needs / wishes before taking the plunge.

I wouldn't bother putting a touchscreen in such a low end computer. I'm waiting for multi-touch interfaces on higher end PC's to become efficient.
I'm really surprised touch screens for desktops never became a big thing. I'd love to use one with a Falcon 4.0.

Wow. This looks super cool.

I use my EEE with my finger and with a stylus. It works out great both ways. I also added iPhone scrolling to Firefox! So cool and so useful :D. One big swipe and your scrolling until you stop.

Why does the hard drive in the unit have an Apple logo on it?
JAmerican @ Apr 9th 2008 12:19PM
Um thats the CMOS battery. Since when did wires come out of the Apple logo?
JAmerican @ Apr 9th 2008 12:22PM
WOW I am an idiot! LOL
I didn't see the logo in the corner. He updated the drive for one with a faster RPM.

Yeah, I went back and looked again after your first comment. I was sure that was an Apple logo on the Samsung HDD. :)

The lame excuse for a computer shouldn't even exist.

Contrary to popular belief (and what this article seems to infer), the "touch" portion of the screen is completely separate. There was no swapping - you simply lay the touch panel onto the existing LCD screen and wire it's controller into some USB traces on the mobo. This is quite common in the Eee community but good to see people are modding the Cloudbook as well.

Yea. I was about to clarify.
Here's a picture of just the touch panel. It goes OVER the LCD...
