Rock Band Mushroom Drum Pads: nearly too awesome to hit
Until very recently, Rock Band on the Wii was little more than a pipe dream. Still, that didn't stop Jennifer and Vance from whipping up what's likely the hottest Rock Band drum kit mod we've seen to date -- one Mario and friends would unquestionably appreciate. We doubt the shrooms will help those fragile pads resist breakage if you're heavy-handed by nature, but it's entirely likely to make rocking out that much more fun when banging on these guys. Leap on past the break for a video demonstration, and check the read link for lots more pics.

Do you get an extra life when you hit the red one?
ishism @ Apr 9th 2008 4:13PM
Nah, but you hear, "WOAH THE COLORS, THE COLORS"
not4no1 @ Apr 9th 2008 4:14PM
Sorry to nit-pick, but the red is an upgrade (big guy, fire flower, etc.) the green one is the 1-up.
Kamokazi @ Apr 9th 2008 4:15PM
No, you get bigger. Duh. Extra lives are green. Blue makes you gigantic and invulnerable(New SMB). I'm wondering about the yellow one though...maybe that's the 'party' shroom...
Chris Macdonald @ Apr 9th 2008 4:16PM
DAMN IT i KNEW there was something wrong.. never really been much of a nintendo guy..
Shinigami @ Apr 9th 2008 4:16PM
Yes you do! Try it if you don't believe me :)
sdh @ Apr 9th 2008 4:22PM
When you hit the yellow one you wii your pants.
ishism @ Apr 9th 2008 4:23PM
Yellow is in S M World for SNES. Yoshi eats it for a more powerfull stomp attack.
sdh @ Apr 9th 2008 4:35PM
True true.. But ones it passes his body he wiis himself. Guess they edited that out for US & EU.
Loban @ Apr 9th 2008 5:32PM
Actually, Yoshi eats turtle shells, not mushrooms, in Super Mario World. The red ones make him spit fireballs, the blue ones make him fly, and the yellow ones make him "stomp" hard on the ground.
Andrew @ Apr 9th 2008 5:48PM
Damn you all, now I have to get the SNES out.
Miguel @ Apr 10th 2008 2:44AM
The yellow is a multiple-boost 'shroom in the Mario Kart series.
Clearly, this would make you a wicked fast drummer.
Willis @ Apr 9th 2008 4:20PM
awesome
Kunal @ Apr 9th 2008 4:26PM
With the myriad Guitar Hero guitar plates/covers floating around, I'm surprised we have yet to see any commercial mods for the drums and guitars in Rock Band (please correct me if I'm wrong in stating that). Seems right up Game Stop's alley to jump all over this idea and start selling drum covers for $59.99 or something ludicrous like that.
geekazine @ Apr 9th 2008 4:36PM
I just have pictures of ex-girlfriends on my pads. It's neat and adds more sound to the drums.
Then again, if I want to make sound, I'll just pound on my drumset....

"None of us on this site have that many exes."
That would be funny if this was 1996.

Tell that to the voters.
The first archived webpage of Engadget was March 5th, 2004 and it looked like this: http://web.archive.org/web/20040305002602/http://www.engadget.com/
Wolfticket @ Apr 9th 2008 7:33PM
I kinda feel bad saying this, but look how clean and generally attractive engadget's web design used to be. Current engadget could learn a thing or two from old engadget :)
caleb @ Apr 9th 2008 11:25PM
yeah I guess a lot of people wrote to the link on the top right : )
greg @ Apr 9th 2008 5:24PM

BrettB @ Apr 9th 2008 5:31PM

Peter @ Apr 9th 2008 5:39PM
this proves rock band can be played outdoors
giantenemycrab @ Apr 9th 2008 5:41PM
Where can I buy these?
Alan Strangis @ Apr 9th 2008 5:57PM
sock mod FTW.
Sam @ Apr 9th 2008 7:55PM
I almost never say this but this is one gadget/mod that does not need a video demonstration
Jennifer Lee @ Apr 9th 2008 10:16PM
whoa... the drum pads made their way to Engadget. Sweet! It's nice to see all the enthusiasm and support. :)
Al Menezes @ Apr 9th 2008 11:13PM
too bad she is not a real drummer....based on her not knowing how to hold sticks...amateurs
HOOPER @ Apr 9th 2008 11:44PM
WHOA it makes SO MUCH SENSE for the green one to be 1up since that's how you activate overdrive to revive a downed player!! Hahaha maybe it's just me but I found that very amusing.
wisammy @ Apr 9th 2008 11:59PM
She's holding the sticks wrong.
Jake @ Apr 11th 2008 5:25PM
curl in your goddamn index fingers!
haha hey you dont need to be a real drummer to play rock band...thats why rock band exists.
JohnZ22 @ Apr 14th 2008 11:08PM
Ok, these are pretty cool. Where do they sell them? I have the pads from http://www.DrumPads4RockBand.com
Vault @ Apr 21st 2008 2:48PM
Better yet, it's a PS3 drumset.
