Micro SD Card Projector blows up portable media
Mini-projectors are a dime a dozen these days, but the Micro SD Card Projector is whizzing right around all those serious competitors and aiming instead for the carefree crowd. Essentially, the image quality you'll get from this thing is likely to be lackluster -- after all, the manufacturer doesn't even bother to pass along a contrast ratio, let alone a native resolution. Still, the ability to shove an SD card into the rear and instantly watch your portable media clips on the big(ish) screen is a boon to travel junkies and kids of all ages. Heck, there's even a set of composite inputs if you're looking to give your DVD player (or similar) some work. No word on exactly what file types the unit understands, but those willing to take a chance can expect it to ship later this week for £99.99 ($196).

I'm supposed to be carrying this around to show pictures? Why not just create something even smaller that plugs into a regular TV...

Before reading the full article and hitting the link, the name actually made me think this projector plugs into a microSD slot!
Wwhat @ Apr 10th 2008 10:26AM
Let's just hope it inspires some company to make a more decent resolution version.
estomped @ Apr 10th 2008 10:32AM
That thing reminds me of the DVD remote controller for XBOX
Dan Davis @ Apr 10th 2008 10:45AM
"Maximum Projection (approx.): L 1015mm W 850mm"
So for us Americans, this basically equates to 40" x 33", or approximately equal to a 52" display???
I imagine picture quality at that size will be pretty fuzzy at best.
bobbywigs @ Apr 10th 2008 10:47AM
all hail the glorious return of the slide projector
Student Driver @ Apr 10th 2008 2:22PM
We did, but the light shining down from Heaven washed out the projector's image.
STNC @ Apr 10th 2008 10:50AM
I'm just waiting for the projector phones, but until then, i am sick of all these different sizes of SD cards, there needs to be one...and i guess MicroSD is the easiest, because it can interface with the bigger ones via adapters.
Ohng @ Apr 10th 2008 11:04AM
I picked up on the ambiguity here too. After reading the product description, it seems that it's a Micro Projector, that uses SD cards; it's not a "Micro SD card" Projector.
Wwhat @ Apr 10th 2008 5:45PM
Currently micro-SD's are slower than full sized one I understand, so we'd better wait a bit before switching to something like only micro.
BloodyGerman @ Apr 10th 2008 12:09PM
Resolution is not specified, but did anyone look at the pictures?
You can easily see that the resolution is very far from even reaching QVGA. This is probably a commercial version of these DIY projectors based on a dia projector with a

Next try without smaller than symbol...

Well, the basic idea is not bad, maybe someone has a use for it.
jgrnt1 @ Apr 10th 2008 1:05PM
If this is at least QVGA, I could see some use for it. I travel frequently and carry a 60GB Creative Zen Vision:M with music and movies on it. Some hotel TV's allow me to plug the Zen into auxilliary inputs and watch movies, but many do not. Some hotels have even disabled the front inputs, if the TV's come with them. If I could project onto the hotel room wall, it might come in handy.
Grant @ Apr 10th 2008 1:29PM
i bet this things native resolution is PAL at best, it looks like a toy and is probably meant to be used like one.
unGa @ Apr 10th 2008 1:40PM
I like that it takes 4xAA batteries... but wonder if it also comes with a power cord. Get that price down closer to $100 and I'm sold.
Magallanes @ Apr 10th 2008 1:53PM
An "as seen on tv" product, sound good, looks great on the ads but it's just a crap product that you (will want) to re-gift to some else.
anthone @ Apr 10th 2008 2:50PM
i need one. my cellphone that has cam uses microSD. its a must for viewing videos.
celerysword @ Apr 10th 2008 3:09PM
Can I get one that's mounts on my head? That way when boring people talk to me, I can just project reruns on Family Guy directly on their face.
phanbouy @ Apr 10th 2008 4:00PM
it would mount nicely on David Hasslehoff's thicket of hair, too
TIMMAH! @ Apr 10th 2008 5:28PM
Perfect for projecting pron directly into your eyes!
thiago.prodrigues @ Apr 11th 2008 3:51PM
Amazing! Now we can attach it to a nokia 6110 then we might have some new version of Pico Projector! Hahahaha!!!

But it´s rly a nice gadget!
Omar @ May 7th 2008 8:06AM
I am always weary of products that hide specifications. Resolution? How long does the battery last?..
