Windows laptop gets DIY "iMacmini" makeover

It takes a special sort of someone to look at an old clunker of a Windows laptop and think, "I'll turn that into a Mac," but Phyro-Mane of the Case-Modder forums is apparently just that sort of person, and while his results certainly won't be fooling any Mac faithful, they're definitely admirable. Phyro even went so far as to add a sheet of plexiglass to simulate a glossy screen and, naturally, turned to a Mac OS X theme for Windows XP as a finishing touch. If you want to give it a shot yourself, you can find all the details (in German) plus plenty of pics of the entire transformation process by hitting up the read link below.

Aguiluz - thank you Captain Obvious, but I'm sure if he has the ability to do that to a PS3, Xbox, and a Wii, he can do this.
Aguiluz @ Apr 14th 2008 7:03PM
"I am... CAPTAIN OBVIOUS! Protector, Creator, Propagator and Defender of Obviousness of Planet Obvious on Earth! What! So it was obvious!? I am obviously proud because it is obviously obvious because it is really really obvious!"

Um, He just made a Apple II laptop.

Sorry to be a prick, but this is just another case mod. Cut the keyboard and the mouse, change where the screen is, make a new case for it. hundreds of people make their own case mods. The only reason your reporting this one is because its like a mac. If your going to show us a case mod, make it a worthy case mod.
jollyllama @ Apr 14th 2008 6:24PM
I think it's a little more relevant to engadget than the average water cooled LED covered case mod. This guy basically took one gadget and made it into another popular gadget (kinda), similar to the PS3 laptop that was reported a few days ago.

true, apple fanboyism at its best

I considered doing this about a year ago but put it off for lack of resources. It's better than having a clunker laptop that will never leave the desk, anyways, as it takes up less desk space.

JMoses @ Apr 14th 2008 6:42PM
Um, the theme is for Ubuntu. You don't even have to look at the translated forum to tell that; just look at the pictures.
ethana2 @ Apr 14th 2008 6:44PM
I used a dragonfly osx on my winxp install back before I switched to Ubuntu..
..I still have that partition bootable via grub, same theme-- but I never use it.
ethana2 @ Apr 14th 2008 6:50PM
Maybe I'm really confused about exactly what that set of themes and settings and apps is called... It's been a year since I used that OS, so I could be really mixing things up.

..I was really confused there for a minute.. The guy who did that wasn't the guy who started the thread-- /that/ dude uses Ubuntu already. The other guy did in fact do what you said.

i think it is actually a ubuntu os x skin. not XP. if you look closely in a few of the pictures, you can see an ubuntu logo

This has nothing to do with the above entry, but I'd like to point out an email I received from the Gate Keeper at Demonoid.com. Their site is back up. Wasn't sure where else to send this, but there it is.

This is a bit late for April Fools Day, isn't it. Some Mac engineer that passed away, must be turning in his grave. Turning from laughter. This is not trying to be passed off as some Bizarro Mac, right.

Anyone else still have trouble commenting? I can't reply by entering my information under 'Current Users' only 'New Users' and then hitting the confirm link in my email. It kind of sucks, big hairy ones too.
考生 @ Apr 15th 2008 6:54AM
I can reply under 'Current Users'(if you can see this comment) ,even though i am in another country

What OS and web browser do you use? I use OS X 10.4 @ work and 10.5 @ home and have also tried both Safari and Firefox with no luck.

Besides being fairly chuby as compared to the genuine imac I would say this one without the cheek looks much better than the original.
