Say it ain't so! Just a week after HP's totally adorable 2133 Mini-Note PC
popped online for purchase, we've received word that pre-orderers aren't going to be seeing their new machine quite as soon as originally expected. Reportedly, HP has sent out notifications to customers who pre-ordered to let them know that their lappies won't be shipping today as promised, but there's no word on how long the delay will last. Hang in there, subnote lovers -- a tracking number is bound to come soon (er, we hope).
[Thanks, Brian]
Update: Some commenters are claiming that their unit did in fact ship today -- just keep those fingers crossed that you get lucky.

HP computers suck. never again
blackwash @ Apr 15th 2008 11:29AM
Tell me about it. I'd really like to see a solid white one. Then, if they replaced the processor with an Intel, I might consider it.
Matt Keller @ Apr 15th 2008 3:32PM
.....and if it ran OSX.

AutoTom @ Apr 15th 2008 6:26PM
i hear you man, i'm totaly over HP
i'm not sure who makes worse desktop computer out of HP and DELL
and i thought i'd never have to compare HP to DELL
blackwash @ Apr 15th 2008 7:57PM
I know what you're saying. I actually own an HP now, and just would like it to be white, just like an eee 900 that I'm hoping to score instead
Brian @ Apr 15th 2008 11:29AM
Awww, it's cute!
bob e @ Apr 15th 2008 11:33AM
On the HP web site i says they ship on the 25th (4/25/08)
I just ordered one... The $749 Vista model :>
OneLove @ Apr 15th 2008 2:11PM
dude, you must have more money than sense. :) $749?

Huge Bezel Monster; ahhhhh rawrrrjl!!!1!!
zunq @ Apr 15th 2008 11:41AM
Tell your "bezel monster" to eat your bezel, problem solved.
Matt @ Apr 15th 2008 11:43AM
If the Bezel Monster ate all the bezel on this lappie there wouldn't be much of a lid left.
ptrader @ Apr 15th 2008 11:55AM
That bezel actually holds two really powerful (for a notebook) speakers.
Matt @ Apr 15th 2008 12:16PM
Oh my mistake! How silly of me to think that screen area is more important than speakers. Give me a single speaker that plays out of a slit in the body and a headphone jack.
Howard @ Apr 16th 2008 4:27PM
From the few benchmarks I've seen, I think they should go with the new VIA Isaiah chip over Atom. Atom will give more battery life, but it looks like Isaiah will have enough processing power to make up for it. Either way, the current VIA C7 chips are awful.
Globular @ Apr 15th 2008 11:36AM
Mine shipped today... From Shanghi! I have a tracking number from FedEx, so I assume it's real.
I'll keep you informed.
Matt @ Apr 15th 2008 11:41AM
Is Shanghi anywhere near Shanghey?
darkstar @ Apr 15th 2008 12:19PM
maybe he meant Shangri-la
haha

My sales rep told me they ship on the 27th.
dan @ Apr 15th 2008 11:48AM
i still debate getting this notebook or the new asus that will arrive by the end of this month. Any thoughts?
The selling point for me is that the weight difference. 0.92 compared to 1.35kg
any great comparisons would be great, as i am on the fence with cash and ready to buy
thanks
Matt @ Apr 15th 2008 12:23PM
I dunno, both give you a lot of bezel for your buck.
ptrader @ Apr 15th 2008 12:01PM
Dan,
I just read the new Asus Eee PC won't be getting a new processor, although it's supposed to run at the 900Mhz without overclocking.
One of the pluses on the Mini Note is it's 92% keyboard, necessary if you're doing lots of writing. It's also built very rugged, since it was designed for the classroom enterprise, and it simply looks more professional than the Eee. Reviews on the device shows that while it's not a speed demon (when running Vista) it's also not a slug. As previously stated, it's not designed to handle video editing, heavy graphics like Photoshop, and other CPU intensive tasks. Some reviews say it doesn't multi-task well, others report no problems.
It's a little bigger and a little heavier than the Eee, but for the feature set, I think it's worth both the extra price and the extra weight for what I need to use it for. (Office documents, email, surfing, Slinging, iTunes.)
w00t @ Apr 15th 2008 11:53AM
To those complaining about the Via this was never supposed to be a performance machine, it's an ultra portable machine for surfing and light office, not number crunching, video editing and crysis!
oodanner @ Apr 15th 2008 12:10PM
I would order this if it didn't have the VIA processor as well. From what the reviewers are saying this thing can't even handle dvd quality mpeg4 video streams so that means you are very limited on the entertainment aspect. I'm not talking about editing videos either, just watching. You'll probably be able to watch youtube videos just fine but, I want to watch Netflix instant movies and I don't think this will handle it. Hopefully once people start to get these they will prove otherwise but, I think the processor is to weak to handle it. I've read however that the eee 900 can handle greater than DVD quality MPEG4 streams so that is the one I'm waiting on.
aardvark sandwich @ Apr 15th 2008 12:13PM
Or booting up either, apparently.

Tony @ Apr 15th 2008 1:27PM
That's a very misleading video.
It's true the two laptops are competitors, but they are two different OS, and the hardware is different. She doesn't even tell you which version of the HP she is using, and if it has flash memory like the EEE, or a hard drive.
ptrader @ Apr 15th 2008 11:54AM
Mine shipped today too. Order number in hand, on the FedEx tracking site, should be here NLT Friday.
Anacoluthia @ Apr 16th 2008 8:01PM
Which config did you get? They are telling me 4/28 for the $549 linux model
steven1350 @ Apr 15th 2008 11:56AM
w/e, its pretty ugly anyways. In that picture, it looks like it has a humungous keyboard and a tiny screen
ss @ Apr 15th 2008 11:57AM
glad i cancel the order, via chip just won't do justice, plus it product too much heat, with no performance gain in return..
In a nutshell, this is a lemon.
JJV @ Apr 16th 2008 4:02PM

I feel deeply for the sad souls who bought this atrocity.
Nate @ Apr 15th 2008 12:01PM
HP has the absolute worst customer service EVER. After sending my dv2000 in for the second repair due to a faulty HDD, they LOST IT! At their repair center! They still call me months later to ask if it somehow showed up at my house!?! Then they back-ordered the HDD on my replacement so it took an extra month! HP = crappy chinese HDD's that fail after 6 mos. Beware.
Simon @ Apr 15th 2008 12:15PM
strong opinions for people who have never touched the device in question.
Continuing on that note, Atom has pretty bad performance reports of it's own, don't hold on it being a big step up in power.
In the end he product is more than the sum of it's parts. Great performance in a cheap body, or a well built long lasting body with adequate performance??? I guess if u want cheap u have to compromise, otherwise get a high end Sony machine and have it all!!!!
L @ Apr 15th 2008 3:16PM
Thanks for that reply. You're typing what was going through my head while reading these comments...
Matt Keller @ Apr 15th 2008 3:37PM
The point of Atom isn't for higher processing speeds, its for longer battery life. It's supposed to double the battery life of something like the Eee.
JesseL @ Apr 15th 2008 12:20PM
I bought it, thought about it for a week, then i canceled my order. its great on paper but in reality, its going to give me problems. I'll wait for the atom processor and price drops for the summer. Cant wait to run Linux on the second generation mini-note!

I pre-ordered mine on 4/9/08 and got a tracking number today saying it shipped out from shanghai. I called Fedex and their international tracking dept said it was 1 of 199 shipped on the pallet and I should have it thursday or friday.
i'm very excited !
Neoprimal @ Apr 15th 2008 12:33PM
Here I am scorning my IBM a31 lappy with 1.9ghz processor and 512mb memory, cd/dvd burner and a nice 15 inch screen as soooo 2000 - even worse my itty bitty Dell L600cx with 1ghz celeron and 256 mb ram; and now comes along stuff with 1/2 the power (mind you, 1/2 the size as well) for $400+ and people are gobbling them up! Now how to figure out how to built a tiny underpowered laptop....and make a killing!
lentiman @ Apr 15th 2008 12:41PM
Ordered mine on the 9th also, $550 model, shipped today from Shanghai. Should be here on Friday. Time to get a new nlite'd XP install ready. I neglected to include sound support on my nlite'd XP install for my eee PC.
Also, i don't understand all the b!tching about the VIA processor. Do you have an eee PC? Have you tried the 2133? Do you understand this market segment? I'm looking forward to giving this guy a whirl.
craigasian @ Apr 15th 2008 12:50PM
Bought mine on the 8th they say it ships on the 28th. What a joke.
J4M3S0N79 @ Apr 15th 2008 12:46PM
I ordered mine the morning that Engadget broke the story they were available (presumably after pre-orders) and mine shipped today. I have my tracking number and by friday, I should be playing with my sleek lil lappy making all the d00ds in the airport luggin dells jealous.

Still waiting for more info on Lenovo's IdeaPad U110. Should be interesting year for sub-notebooks.
parish @ Apr 15th 2008 12:51PM
it's amazing how so many can find fault with something they haven't even seen yet. so what that it might not play DVD's flawlessly, that's what my 70" Sony is for. If i need to do video editing i'll use my Mac Pro. stop all the crying already
lee @ Apr 15th 2008 12:52PM
It's ashame that it's not available in the UK yet, I'm looking forward to getting one, I'm hoping that this is as good for hardware modding as the EEEpc is. I added touchscreen, bluetooth and a 3G modem to it.

HP computers are the same as any computer!! they all use the same parts from the same place. the only diff. between a DELL, HP, and Gateway is the Logo on the case!!! sony is not the same.
lentiman @ Apr 15th 2008 1:01PM
My eee PC is good for what I use it for, but the KB is the suck. I'm super stoked to try this one out on Friday and see what the boot times with XP are. It's interested that none of the reviewers put XP on it for a review. So who's going to send engadget the unboxing photos? Anyone want to buy my eee PC?
Jon Lam @ Apr 15th 2008 1:46PM
Mine shipped today -- scheduled arrival is Friday before 10:30 am. Or maybe they're just shipping shoeboxes full of newspaper!
Brian @ Apr 15th 2008 3:45PM
@Jon Lam -
that actually happened to me. a few years ago i ordered a dell laptop off eBay from an online-only retailer. when i received the box, i opened it to find an ancient compaq beige-box computer instead of the shiny laptop i expected. apparently one of the packing guys stole the laptop off the line and swapped in the tower case, figuring i wouldn't notice.
