Limited edition Wii Super Famicom Classic Controller gets unboxed
Ah, Japan -- it just gets all the dope controllers, doesn't it? Just days after hearing that a Wii-white GameCube controller was headed there soon, a lucky, lucky member of Club Nintendo has unboxed his limited edition Wii Super Famicom Classic Controller. Yep, this token of nostalgia that we heard about way back in November of last year has finally arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun. Really, we can't believe you -- being the diehard Nintendo fanatic that you shamelessly are -- haven't already made it to the read link to check out the gallery of shots, but we won't ask you to test your patience any longer. Now, get!

This is awesome. I want one.
PlayAsia, here I come.
Chris @ Apr 16th 2008 5:37AM
Club Nintendo stuff is too hard to get for even PlayAsia. A few might turn up on eBay, but they're not going to be cheap.
It's almost tempting enough to take a soldering iron to a SNES controller and a Classic controller to see if you can hack one of these together, but I'd feel guilty if I killed an innocent SNES controller if I messed up.
Chris @ Apr 16th 2008 5:42AM
I really should have read the article on WiiFanboy. Go ahead and - me.
I'm off to PlayAsia to try to get one of these.

sweet - we had all purple buttons state side didnt we?
Miguel @ Apr 16th 2008 4:26AM
My stock SNES controllers have dark purple on A+B, and a lighter lavender on Y+X. Not to mention our Y+X buttons were/are concave, not convex. But I do recall buying some of the "super" controllers--with auto switches, "turbo" modes (and I still don't know what the hell the "turbo" mode did anyway), etc.--came in this colored variety.
Ah, how I wish I still had them: makes winning the soup race in Chrono Trigger so much easier when I just put "B" on auto...
Nintendo: I could use this controller stateside. Please? I still subscribe to Nintendo Power, and everyone knows how worthless that rag has become even for a Nintendo-exclusive gaming magazine...
Owen @ Apr 16th 2008 7:49AM
I guess Nintendo had to reduce the complexity of the control scheme for Americans.
Kai @ Apr 16th 2008 9:05AM
the "turbo" mode on snes controllers back in the day was used for fighting games and other games were you had to push a button as fast as possible over and over again. there were also controllers that would save a button combination, such as ABABXYXY or something. which would be totally cheap, but hey... i was a little kid. what the hell

What I'd love to see made for the Wii is the Super Advantage.

I broke 2 of them and nearly ruined a third in my hayday....tis an excellent idea that went even further than a simple turbo button....

this is great... but i think the regular classic controller isn't that big a pain to use for SNES games.
not only that but there are those various original SNES controllers modded to GameCube ports and the like (i see this one has Wii-controller port for wireless unlike those 3rd party ones...)
BUT...
the biggest thing i'd like to see is a *N64* controller. NO ONE makes one adapted for GameCube ports... and the classic controller is horrid for playing N64 games. 4 "C" buttons replaced with an analog stick is not enjoyable.
if ANYTHING should be made... it should be an N64 controller.
Josh L @ Apr 16th 2008 10:40AM
++
The classic controller works great for SNES and Genesis titles and a sideways Wiimote is fine for NES games... But there isn't anything that works for the N64.
I tried to play Starfox 64 with the Classic and gave up after about an hour.
... You know, I seem to remember an enterprising modder converting an old SNES controller into a Bluetooth controller. I wonder if the same could be done for an N64 controller... *goes digging through de.licio.us bookmarks*
Steveorevo @ Apr 16th 2008 5:43AM
Maybe Nintendo should focus on making more Wiis, I never can find one in stock at my local best buy, frys, circuit city, etc. Plenty of XBoxs, PS3, galore. So all the Wii games, and accessories just collect dust. And I thought Wii was gonna dominate!?
Oh well, by the time their dipstick marketing and manufatoring catches up, I'll probably just get a PS8 or XBox1820.
I guess it was a fad....
DT @ Apr 16th 2008 7:06AM
Dude, the reason you don't see any Wiis is becase THEY ARE ALL SOLD. Amazing, really, that they still sell out 18 months after release.
daniel @ Apr 16th 2008 10:23AM
DT, the reason you don't see any Wiis is because THEY AREN'T MAKING THEM FAST ENOUGH. Amazing tactic, really, that after the first Christmas they slowed production and haven't picked it up since, keeping their Supply in Demand while not fully meeting the demand.
Tragedy @ Apr 16th 2008 5:50AM
It says on that website that the N64 controller is next.
Tragedy @ Apr 16th 2008 5:53AM
There's a crapload of these on Yahoo Auctions. I placed bids on three of them. I'm sending two of them back to some of my Nintendo geek friends back in the States.

acquadiparma @ Apr 16th 2008 6:34AM
being in the state side, most of us are unable to bid on them unless we proxy, and 50 bucks for a controller... a bit too much for nostalgia...
Dave @ Apr 16th 2008 7:29AM
Does this work the same way?

Yes, but does it have the little piece of broken plastic to rattle around inside? FTW
jars99 @ Apr 16th 2008 11:02AM
You could always build your own wireless version: http://www.ppl-pilot.com/snes_asm.htm

God damnit, bring Club Nintendo to the U.S.!!
Ubuntu 7.10 WindowsXP @ Apr 16th 2008 1:36PM
I want a N64 Performance controller for my Wii. No wait, I want to move forward in gaming, not relive my childhood where I wished games looked like they do now.

GIMEE!!!
