Clearvision's clip-on display makes your PlayStation 3 weep
Sure, there's a clip-on display for gaming on-the-go made for basically every console out there, but for whatever reason, Sony's PlayStation 3 just doesn't lend itself to being the perfect candidate the way Nintendo's Wii does. Who knows, maybe it's that curvaceous design or something. Anyway, Clearvision is hoping that you don't much care how unsightly your console becomes when strapping its PS3 gaming monitor on, which adds a 7-inch LCD, a pair of speakers and little else. Unfortunately for those actually interested in picking one up, it seems you'll have to put in an inquiry with one Shenzhen Madcow Digital Technology Co., Ltd. Good luck with that.

So I'm guessing this ships with a free steel spine reinforcement kit too, yeah?
I don't get it.
You'll be needing one to carry this thing around.
I also see what you did there.
check out the video of it in action

Lol, I got Macarolled.
Just ask that one guy to build you the laptop
Ben Heckdorn only makes a few laptop consoles, they are costly, and very time consuming to make, and as a result, he only makes 10 or so, and sells them for a lot, but his time is very valuable
I don't get why someone would do /all that/ to a PS3 without even replacing the hypervisor.
I can't see using something like that anyway. What are you gonna do, set this hulk in your lap? Put it on a table? Nail it to the car seat in front of you? The PS3 isn't designed to be portable, and therefore it shouldn't be surprising that it becomes like something from a crappy old sci-fi series when you try to use it that way. But, hey, at least you won't launch it at someone accidentally as you play Wii Sports.
You put it on the set of some CSI/Bones/SG-Atlantis set of course.
yeah that's why we have remote play through the psp. good point. this is garbola. at least it should be 17 inches. its too tiny to play on. those speakers horrible. maybe it was supposed to be an April Fools Day joke but they were smokin some green today because its 4/20!
Yeah that's what the PSP was designed for.
The price of the monitor is almost the same as the price of the PSP I guess. Nobody brings their PS3 around that's why the made the PSP.
I never quite understood this. Who uses these things??
Modders for display to their projects. I used a PSone display for my C64 :) The Xbox display is also popular. Cheapest 7" you can get.
Never seen anyone using it for the intended purpose though....
what makes me weep is that that 7" screen is a crime to HD everywhere.
Your typical screen has a similar footprint as the console it's on. With the bulk of a PS3, this is just sad. Minimum 12 inches or don't even bother, Clearvision!
"Minimum 12 inches or don't even bother"
that's what she said!
@mmmntl: That....was beautiful. I think a tear came to my eye.
Wow.
The people that need this are the people that love their PS3 so much they would never set foot in the outside world.
So basically the only people that would need it, don't need it.
/light hearted jokey comment, before people low rank me for not thinking of real-life situations in which it may be useful.
Unfortunately I need that disclaimer at the end of my posts recently.
Polystation 3?
I see what you did there...again.
Yeah I forgot about that...
...I need more sleep.
Don't make me look bad, I can do that myself...
You must be mistaken considering I make everything look good.
I wouldn't even put this in my car. not enough room.
No one has enough room in their car for this, plus an industrial generator and a second tank of gas...
Wow what a stupid waste of time developing this. If it took Clearvision a day to come up with this, it cost them more than it was worth. Even if you had some strange reason to take your PS3 with you (in a car? for real?) it would drain any power source it was connected to. Oh and good idea of nailing it to the seat in front of you, that way you won't have to have third degree burns from playing on the road *offline*. But at least in Soviet Russia, the PlayStation 3 doesn't burn you, you burn for the PlayStation 3.
On the road "offline" I guess you haven't been up to speed on wireless net tech. you gots some reading to do there my friend.
Uhhh, how many people who would buy a 7 inch LCD who have also installed a wifi hotspot from a cellular service or routed internet through ethernet from cell cards in their laptop? And the laptop would require another socket, btw. And AutoNet isn't out yet (I have been waiting for that for a while).
What the f**ck is this, who had this idear lol, where would you use it, maybe in the most dire of emergencies when you need to shoot some people in call of duty and your 46" Sony Bravia has just retired by blowing up all over your living room, anywhere els and eerr, not much apart from that really. Unless you bought your ps3 then bought one of these as you dont have a TV and thought this being digital would do. Pathetic idear.
Well you can use it as a function display to assemble a playlist to play on your big screen tv which is in the other room or something maybe.
Or perhaps you can use your ps3 to play some music and you don't want to turn on the big screen for such basic functionality.
What the hell?
Where do you people get off? Ben Heck just made a masterpiece and everyone praised him, then this comes out, slightly smaller, and it gets bashed to pieces. Morons, either you like the idea of a PS3P, or you don't.
Because this is just plain stupid.
17inch screen > 7inch.
Heck's is full of all kinds of win.
The idea of a fully portable ps3 with a 17" screen and a built in keyboard is a little different than the idea of a tiny screen attachment. This hardly makes for a portable gaming experience..
And this is an SD screen.
Can someone translate that line "Heck's is full of all kinds of win." Mr 'the sound' enriched the comments with?
"Ben Hecks ps3 laptop is sexy as hell"
If you take Ben Heck's PS3P to a PS3 LAN party, you'll laugh at their face when you pwn them...
If you take this to a PS3 LAN party, they will laugh at your face when they pwn you because your screen is so small you can't see your HUD..
Oh, believe me, I've been drooling over the PS3P Laptop. I was going to bid $3,000 (it is for charity afterall) but some jerk off's bid higher than that, and that is a shame, because there is no way they are serious bidders (I really hope they are), ruining it for the rest of us. So I'm not dissing his amazing work nor comparing it to this thing.
However, this is the closest thing to the PS3P anyone but the Winner of that Auction will ever get.
I guess the double 'is' confused me a bit there for a sec, thanks.
Uh, no, not a double "is"; that would be "Heck's" as in, "that which belongs to Heck". Don't play grammar police with a fake badge.
because Ben's are Epic Masterpieces, This is JUNK, GARBOLA, Trash Not worth SPIT. Sorry but it's so bad it's not even funny. they should consult me for Ideas. i'd of thought of something to blow your minds. Picco Projector anyone?
Ok I'll rephrase, the double is of 'his' and 'is', because Heck's is short for "Heck his" so it becomes "heck his is" which just threw me a bit at the time.
And I wasn't playing grammar police, I was just sleepy and lost the meaning of the line for a sec because of the "'s is" combo, don't get your panties in a knot.
There won't be any Shenzhen Madcows on my PS3.
Heh, I'm going to have an Ubuntu + tremulous + nexuiz LAN party, and one or two people will probably be using a PS3, and the rest laptops.. maybe a powerbook...
This would be pretty decent for that, less cords to worry about.
...come on, spegl folks, don't let me down.....
Sorry, that is most certainly /not/ a common acronym. This is what I meant:

cool another add-on to make my ps3 fatter..... time to go on the wii diet
God luck eating plastic and metal.
lol...
