Limited edition Bronze PSP now on sale, likely to remain that way
We're still trying to piece together why in the world Sony would choose matte bronze as the color for its latest PSP Slim, but now that it's out, we're focusing our attention on just how long it takes these so-called limited edition units to actually sell out. The Value Pack it comes bundled in includes a Japanese version of the handheld, 32MB memory stick, cleaning cloth, a case, AC adapter, battery pack and an AV cable for good measure -- unfortunately, a can of black spray paint actually isn't in the box. A last minute exclusion due to shipping regulations, we're sure. Grab one if you're into it for $278.97.

I never knew Sony was into Jungle Fever. You know what? It's kind of "kinky", if you asked me.

makishima @ Apr 24th 2008 2:00PM

Otherwise known as the "panty-hose-coloured model."
FenwayBeerMan @ Apr 24th 2008 1:55PM
wait, doesn't the current PSP come with a 1 GB stick, a game, a movie, and all the same stuff that comes here, for $80 less?
Sony must really think we're stupid. This JUST HAS TO BE some kind of sociological experiment.
Eric M. @ Apr 24th 2008 2:13PM
Well its a LIMITED EDITION so why wouldn't I want less and pay more for a color thats a pretty much hit or miss? Duh..
Now excuse me while I take a shower, because I'm still oozing sarcasm all over the place.
mushy @ Apr 24th 2008 1:57PM
I like it, but hey, what's an opinion.
makishima @ Apr 24th 2008 2:14PM
Opinion : An excuse for most people on the internet to say everyone and everything is vastly inferior to themselves and what they own. This is especially true in the realm of videogames. Unfortunately due to the anonymity of the internet it is essentially impossible to escape the random musings of these people who I suspect have a mild (sometimes sever) case of either brain damage or Down's syndrome.
phanbouy @ Apr 24th 2008 2:17PM
they also suffer from 11-year-old-ism
Backwards People @ Apr 24th 2008 4:29PM
You're belittling yourself.
Why would you do that?
Bassir @ Apr 24th 2008 1:58PM
Costs more than a Wii...
Nathan @ Apr 24th 2008 2:18PM
Has better graphics than a Wii....
Bassir @ Apr 24th 2008 2:22PM
yeah man it's all about those graphics
Mike @ Apr 24th 2008 3:02PM
And since the Wii has the fewest games rated 8/10 or better, it isn't about gameplay either. So... what is it about, exactly? Bandwagon thinking?
Wii: 21 games
Xbox 360: 91 games
PS3: 48 games
PSP: 59 games
The numbers are even worse for the Wii if we include 7/10 games or higher. But hey, at least the Wii retains its *huge* lead in the number of horrendously bad games!
AuronX24 @ Apr 24th 2008 3:12PM
This guy suffers from Gamespot syndrome. However, there's a cure. It's called intellect.
Derbeste @ Apr 24th 2008 3:15PM
And forget the fact that back in the N64 era, the N64 had the MOST games rated 9/10 or higher.
It still sold the poorest and was criticized the most for not being zOMG CD based like it's PS1 rival.
It's almost like all this shit is subjective. How about people just buy what they want without the need to compare it to other products validate their purchase?
makishima @ Apr 24th 2008 3:22PM

Static @ Apr 24th 2008 3:26PM
Back off derbeste. While we can argue consoles the original point of contention was price and ratings of games.
CD or cartridge based had nothing to do with that. But if you want to get into the details so much which dev made those 9 and over games? Why do you think their next console was disc based?
After the third party abandoned nintendo for their outrageous fees for producing content on cartridge based games nintendo carried the weight of the cost themselves, no longer being able to pull from the third parties.
I am sure that they finally realized they were only shooting themselves in the foot by staying with cartridges so their next system launched without one.
And In my youth even though I loved my N64 to death, I am still hard pressed to name more awesome titles on the N64 than the playstation.
Backwards People @ Apr 24th 2008 3:45PM
Derbeste speaks the truth.
I'm a rabid DS fanboy, I admit it. Cuz Nintendo games are fun for me, no matter what they are rated.
Plus I need a touchscreen. I couldn't get by without it. Plus it plays movies, I use it as my main MP3 player (it's closed while it's playing), the DS runs linux... the list goes on and on.
nh @ Apr 24th 2008 5:33PM
You don't need 91 games. Just one or two good ones. I had loads for N64, but the only ones that really got played were Goldenye and Mario Kart. Even after Perfect Dark and Diddy Kong Racing came out, which were supposedly better.
On the PS2 it was GT3, GTA3 and Guitar Hero.
All a console needs is those few killer games that you and all your friends play.
Aguiluz @ Apr 24th 2008 7:37PM
@Mike
Puh-Leeze. You take the words of critics? Pick your own games, not by the reviews.
I got a game rated Bad (3.5) on IGN and it's the best game I played. Period.

Valgas @ Apr 24th 2008 2:21PM
How about a translucent case PSP's? You know like the dual shock controller colors? That would be sexeh.
Raheem @ Apr 24th 2008 2:35PM
Then we'd see Sony's secret processor! 11 minature hamsters running in wheels!
Jonathan @ Apr 24th 2008 4:41PM
A boost in RAM and processor speed would be greatly appreciated.... I wonder if you could hook up a Pentium 4.....
:-D

Ignatius @ Apr 24th 2008 6:28PM
Yeah...
1) DS Lite
2) DS Phat
3) PSP.
At least Sony's sticking to the numbers?
Matt Peckham @ Apr 24th 2008 3:44PM
They have a Vader edition... how about a C3PO edition? The guy gets no credit... come on. He speaks 8 million dialects! Including Moisture vaporators!
Chris @ Apr 24th 2008 4:37PM
So who's army does the bronze PSP allow you to control? Purgatory's? If it only came with a bronze statue of Keanu Reeves!
Jonathan @ Apr 24th 2008 4:41PM
@Static
In my mind, the N64 had much better games. But that is a matter of opinion. As for the cartridges, although big and bulky they reduced load times, and had potential. I still hear people complaining about discs like the UMD. If the PSP played games from something like a memory stick pro duo, than think of how much space could be saved for other, extra components.
@Backwards People
FYI, the PSP runs a whole bunch of home brew OSs and Apps as well...
ar @ Apr 24th 2008 6:44PM

Even golden would have suck less then that.....

Why are we talking about N64 here ?
Is it a handheld gaming device ?
tekdroid @ Apr 25th 2008 7:26AM
bronze/brown I prefer greatly over black and silver IMO.
If it has a silvery glaze to it (making it 'bronze', I guess), I'd prefer regular brown. If not, it's still far better than black, IMO.
If the colour is coated-on with a thin layer of paint, I'd prefer it weren't (due to the fact that paint coatings regularly come off with enough use or a scratch or two).
In which case I'd just prefer the 'native' colour of the plastic over any coatings.
The mint green one so far is my favourite 'alternative' colour, even though I haven't seen the thing in the flesh yet.
Wuffer @ Apr 25th 2008 11:01AM
Crazy that people take the time to read news about a given product just to comment on how it sold less than another brand (probably preferred by the writter). On the other hand Im writting this :)
Anywhoo not a color I like, but it will probably sell.
NoelSM @ Apr 26th 2008 6:09AM
Its mine!
Daniel @ Apr 28th 2008 1:17AM
What's wrong with bronze? I thought it looked cool, -_-
