When I read that I thought of the australian guy from Futurama. "Bloody Chunda!"
Clayj @ Apr 25th 2008 10:18AM
Just to save everyone some time, the current bid is $23,600. No need to think about bidding unless you can top that. ;-)
Sean @ Apr 25th 2008 10:20AM
can't believe it can go that high...
Lars @ Apr 25th 2008 1:08PM
If I was loaded (wealthy, not high), I would donate that much to a charity. And getting a totally one-of-a-kind gadget in return just makes giving that much sweeter.

looks a bit iffy? whats with all the odd usernames?
farfisa @ Apr 25th 2008 10:27AM
eBay hides user names now so people don't get spammed and stuff
Glad it's making so much money for charity! Ben, ever think of going into the manufacturing business?
Sean @ Apr 25th 2008 10:29AM
not as odd as p***u
papu @ Apr 25th 2008 10:32AM

Jason @ Apr 25th 2008 10:34AM
@Farfisa
When the cost goes over $100, ebay starts to obfuscate the names of the bidders.
anonymouspimp @ Apr 25th 2008 10:40AM
I have a feeling that dude isn't going to actually cough up $23,600 when the auction ends.
But I hope he does. He must be feeling awfully charitable. lol
ScOObyDoo @ Apr 25th 2008 10:47AM
People who think it's funny to post fake bids on charity auctions have a special place reserved for them in hell.
sk8inprankster @ Apr 25th 2008 10:54AM
yea i get the feeling these guys are going to fall through....... :-/
but i dont believe in hell or heaven or an afterlife..but it does piss me off if they don't come through for charity!!!!
schmitty338 @ Apr 25th 2008 10:57AM
...Luckily for them, Hell doesn't exist.
Morgan Boyle @ Apr 25th 2008 10:55AM
i am totally gonna snipe this bid
maxz @ Apr 25th 2008 11:00AM
I haven't forgotten. I'll be there to watch the end of the auction, spamming F5 lol :) Can't wait to see how high it'll go, maybe even 100.000$ :)

back to US $8,301.00 ... wow now i can buy this think when it goes down to 100$
Matthew @ Apr 25th 2008 12:09PM
How does it go from $24k to $8K? it's totally going the wrong way and I'm confused to as how this many people can just cancel their bids like that.
JAmerican @ Apr 25th 2008 12:47PM
Just goes to show you how unstable the US dollar is. LOL
wamphyri7 @ Apr 25th 2008 12:16PM
Real nice of these fake bidders to get the hopes of cancer patients up and then back out of the deal. Classy people!
JimReaper @ Apr 25th 2008 12:42PM
Considering the amount of money donated to cancer related charities I really don't think $25k is going 'to get the hopes of cancer patients up'.
But it is really low to bid for charity and then back out (unless they had good reasons).
Cal @ Apr 25th 2008 2:44PM
Well the current top bidder has this for his 30 day summary:
30-Day Summary
Total bids: 1
Items bid on: 1
Bid activity (%) with this seller: 100%
Bid retractions: 1
Bid retractions (6 months): 1
Paris @ Apr 25th 2008 12:24PM
I thought nerds are supposed to be rich when they grow up. $8k does not reflect that.
Phoenix @ Apr 25th 2008 12:27PM
...wow. Some complete assholes have bid on this...
superaktieboy @ Apr 25th 2008 12:37PM
wtf? last time i checked it was around $23,000.00.. how come its suddenly on $8,000 ?
maxz @ Apr 25th 2008 12:39PM
OMG what the hell. All the bids have been retracted. It's down to 8k. I can't believe this BS.
James Cameron @ Apr 25th 2008 12:39PM
How can someone entered a wrong amount of $2,000,000?
JAmerican @ Apr 25th 2008 12:50PM
I thought you were joking but someone actually did that wow lol
Musouka @ Apr 25th 2008 1:27PM
That c***n guy retracted his bids so it is only US $9,051.00 right now
Devon @ Apr 25th 2008 1:39PM
It looks like a lot of the high bids were canceled by engadget beacuse they couldn't get in contact with the potential buyer. however, there is quite a few retracted bids as well.
Backwards People @ Apr 25th 2008 1:41PM
This isn't a contest to see how high the bids can go. Whatever is raised for charity is Greater Than Zero.
The custom PS3 itself? It's worth the equipment purchased, the materials to build the custom rig, and the time Ben put in to complete the project.
$10K-20K sounds about right.
Rich @ Apr 25th 2008 4:28PM
Funny how the price drops from 24,xxx to 8,xxx in the last day.
Alexander @ Apr 25th 2008 4:53PM
In the unlikely case that the winning bidder drop out, may I have the privilage of suing them?
maxz @ Apr 25th 2008 5:40PM
It has sold for US $9,051.00 .
Terpy @ Apr 25th 2008 6:16PM
Thats still about 8,000 more greenbacks than I would have been willing to pay.
dismal @ Apr 26th 2008 1:59AM
Ain't buyin one a them till ah see a time lapsin' video of it. Make it proper though, take a good look at it with a camera 24 times a day from start to finish on some good ol' 35 millimeter film. Gimme that movie as a promo and I'll start buyin' enough to sell.
