AMD introduces Business Class desktops for the suits
What's a flagging microprocessor company to do after an absolutely tumultuous 2007 (and start to 2008)? Why, dish out its own desktop family, of course! At least that's what AMD is reckoning judging by the abrupt introduction of the Business Class desktop. Obviously the firm's very first computer brand, the series is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, but it's noted that even the "biggest corporate clients" can find something to love. The company is planning to move the units via Acer, HP, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens and Lenovo, and they'll be available with Athlon X2 dual-core, Phenom X3 triple-core and Phenom X4 quad-core CPUs. Oh, and if you're own outfit is totally over these "desktops," AMD is looking to unveil Business Class laptops during the second half of 2008.

AMD has some good CPU's i think that need some serious marketing i dont think people take them serious as a main player in the CPU industry.

"AMD has some good CPU's..."
And Intel has better ones. They don't need better marketing, they need better R&D.

lol at 'business class' like its something special. What do business' use computers for? oh thats right, e-mail, internet browsing, microsoft office, printing, etc. They don't need any of that triple core, quad core processing bullshit. Those in the 'suits' would hire others to do the jobs that need the hefty processing power, e.g. photo/video editing, but even that is usually uncommon.

of course you're right, there is very little distinction between not only desktops but laptops... but shhhh, don't let them hear you say that.
Like most things it's about perception and good ol' fashioned marketing, product placement, etc.

What is wrong with them, they've been lagging behind for over a year. Surely they should have come up without something to compete with Intel. I remember the heady days when Intel were eating AMD's dust, where's the fight gone?
They're like Rocky, in Rocky 3, they got rich and lazy and Intel went Clubber Lang all over their ass. Then their trainer died and they lost their money and bought a restaurant.... ok i've dragged that particular metaphor out too long. Still though, EYE OF THE TIGER!!

you have the attitude of an enthusiast. AMD competes well, but enthusiasts will talk about performance until they're blue in the face, quite often ignoring prices and bang-for-buck.
Different demographics, different needs, different attitudes.
AMD is actually making solid hardware and pricing fairly at most price brackets. While enthusiasts like those visiting this site will berate them, the market is a whole lot more flexible than that. Plus PC companies like HP and Dell, Acer, Lenovo etc are where the big orders are and where there focus should be (and is).

How exactly are they launching a brand when the computers will come from Acer, HP, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens and Lenovo.
If the computers wont be branded as AMD or something how are they launching a brand

Do you mean "if your own outfit"? not "if you're own outfit". Thanks.

Is is a coincidence that these systems look practically identical to the new business boxes from HP Compaq pictured two stories above?

Marketing would definitely help.
Think back to when Prescotts were getting raped by Venices - that was less than two years ago... and somehow, non-techies were convinced that Intel was the way to go.
