HP Compaq announces dc5850 and dx2450 Business Desktops
Remember those AMD Business Class desktops we told you about, oh, just hours ago? Looks like the first of the family are starting to roll out, beginning with the HP Compaq dc5850 and dx2450 Business Desktop PCs. Both rigs support "next-generation AMD Business Class processors" (that's the Athlon X2, Phenom X3 and Phenom X4) along with the usual complement of slots / ports, and while the former gets integrated ATI Radeon 3100 graphics, AMD's Cool'n'Quiet 2.0 technology, up to 8GB of RAM, an optional dual-drive RAID setup and a dual-layer DVD writer, the latter boasts NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE graphics, room for 4GB of RAM and up to 500GB of SATA HDD space. Best of all, both machines come in pretty easy on the wallet, with the dc5850 hitting in early May for $599 and the dx2450 available now for $369.

"HP Compaq announces dc5850 and dx2450 Business Desktops"
the operative word is "Business", as in they need these to get stuff done and make money so that their people get paid so they can pay their bills.
You know, grown up stuff.
Yeah I know, no shiny white plastic or opportunity to propagandize a multi-national corporation as the savior to all mankind, but hey it is a gadget and it's new.

Hey, I'm no stranger to business-grade hardware. I've got a Latitude D420 sitting in front of me right now (with a Latitude X300 at home.) And before they let me build my own machine (I LOVE over-clocking the Pentium Dual-core E2140,) I used to have an IBM ThinkCentre sitting under my desk at work.
I was more commenting on the state of the comments section, compared to other, more-active articles up for today.

Why are these computers so ugly?
tekdroid @ Apr 28th 2008 10:52AM
because the accountants were brought in to design hardware.

You know I was actually going to reply that these look classy. Im not the fan of there home computers... These seem streamline and sexy... Laugh at me if you must.

That one on the left is almost a dead knock off of the Dell 745/755's that I have rolled out here. Only the lines on the front go up and down and not side to side.

No, it looks like the current 5750 which has been out for a quite a while. We've bought about 50 of them.
retro77 @ Apr 28th 2008 1:08PM
We've been buying the Dell 745's since Jan 07. We now buy the continuation model the 755. Same case. how long has that HP been out?
jason.grider @ Apr 28th 2008 3:51PM
The HP case has been out for about 2 years now...

For some reason, I'm thinking of Darth Vader with these things ....
Don't know why.
Justin Ryder @ Apr 28th 2008 11:28AM
I had thought these would be strictly AMD platform - meaning no NVIDIA graphics on the second setup.
Daren @ Apr 28th 2008 11:41AM
i was just looking at the systems page on HP, and saw that they offer FreeDOS as a OS choice. Didnt expect to see them offering the free DOS alternative...

if you look at the case on the left and look at where the headphone jack/mic input with two USB ports underneath, it looks like a... face. Doesn't it?
