Until now, DJ mixing novices have found only semi-professional or professional DJ hardware or complex mixing software requiring practice and agility to progress beyond the basics. The Mobile DJ MP3, the most mobile, dual deck, DJ mixer available, is an affordable, general consumer solution for anyone 12 years and up looking to mix his or her favorite digital tunes and be the hit of their house party. Indeed, with this wireless, handheld mixer the host of the party can control the music while still mingling and dancing with friends.
"In light of the explosion in the popularity of MP3s, we have created a novice MP3 mini-controller that puts DJing within reach for all music and entertainment enthusiasts of all ages" explains François Garet, Development Director for the Hercules Music product line. "Our new portable controller makes mixing easy by giving everyone the tools to have fun putting their own touch on their digital music".
The mixer is powered by two C* batteries and has a dual LCD display that allows the DJ to pick tracks and mix them, away from the computer. If the DJ hesitates, the Automix feature will automatically select the next song, ensuring a smooth set. The Mobile DJ MP3 includes two decks for mixing, scratching and synchronizing the MP3 or WAV files stored on the PC. Additionally, the mini-controller includes two jog wheels emulating two vinyl/cd decks for scrolling through tracks quickly and scratching, a cross fader slider that allows quick transition from deck to the other deck and two volume sliders, four sound and effect buttons per deck, pitch sliders and 25 control buttons. Sound effects, song loops and changes in tempo let you modify songs according to your taste, and put your own individual musical mark on the mixes you share with your audience.
The Mobile DJ MP3 is easy to install. Simply plug in the USB radio receiver key for wireless connectivity and insert the software CD. The wireless and handheld Mobile DJ MP3 simply requires a computer equipped with a sound card, amplified speakers and your favorite music (CD-Audio or MP3, WAV or WMA files). DJing software is included.

become a real dj or get a life and buy a zune.
o hai. are u teh guy wit thoes tatoos?
Can a Zune remix tracks? NO.
get a life and buy a zune? can you do those two things at once?
A new category needs to be created below lowest ranked. Engadget should create a Dumbass rank for lowest in the thread.
@ Jon Doe
sure it's a good concept , but sometimes people get low ranked just for not agreeing with the majority and that doesn't necesarily make someone a Dumbass
get a life.. buy a zune or a become a real DJ?
which order do you need to do that in,x not to be a loser? I can't figure that one out..
Not as good at the Pacemaker, but defiantly cheaper.
This is pretty sweet I must say
This is pretty cool!
Nice lil physical alternative to the Virtual DJ program I had, Not everybody wants to be a prof. DJ nor be stuck near the computer at a house party. I could see picking this up on eBay or something...
How the hell are you supposed to beatmatch with pitch sliders that small?!
Seriously +-8% is considered a fairly normal range, and trust me 0.1% means the difference between having to nudge the wheel every few seconds to keep it tight or being able to leave it alone and concentrate on the mix!
If you're looking to learn how to mix, look away because all this will do is frustrate the hell out of you as you blindly move the pitch about totally unable to get it anywhere near the right speed!
It says it's a "general consumer solution." It's for people that want to goof around. If anyone is worried about 0.1% beatmatch pitch slide nudger machine that goes bing, I'm sure they'd be looking somewhere else.
Well they claim this kit is supposed to make mixing easy and accessible and then make it considerably harder to use by saving a few quid on a pitch slider with almost no travel!
I'd probably struggle to get accurate results on that thing and I've had many years practice (I'd feel more confident mixing with a mouse! actually I have done when a midi controller stopped working in a club mid set!)
What I'm getting at is this product is going to mislead budding wannabe DJs and no doubt leave many feeling frustrated because they couldn't control the pitch!
Hey w00t, I'm thinking about getting into DJing (bedroom style, nothing serious for now). Do you know of any half-decent mixers for beginners that are preferably under $200 (100 quid)? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just one with a decent crossfader that won't have to be replaced every week.
Just a mixer, as in you have decks or a midi controller already?
If so you can't fault the Numark DXM06, they retail at about £160 but you can easily get one on eBay in your price range... actually there's one on there for £35 absolute bargain if I didn't already have one I'd snap it right up!
Fairly simple but fully featured 2 channel phono & line mixer, nice headphones/cue control, clear LED levels display, kill switches, EQs, even effects...
The faders are all digital too (really smooth control) so you don't need to worry about crackle on second hand units!
To add to that, if your looking for a complete package like this one with midi controller and integrated mixer, take a look at the Numark Total Control.
Sure it's more expensive at about £150 Retail, but it's going to give you a much smoother and more realistic interface to work with. )
Again with a little patience I bet you can snap one up for under that £100 mark on eBay, perhaps new!
If you ever find yourself mixing on real CD hardware you'll thank yourself for getting a decent controller, similar differences really caught me out when I was playing in clubs for the first time on all kinds of different decks!
Thanks w00t! Yeah, I'm just looking for a mixer at this point; I'm 99% sure on the decks I'm going to buy. I appreciate the help; I'll check on eBay tonight.
But will it blend? that is the question!
No.
wow, i can't possibly imagine of a better way to pass the time on a long flight.... well i can...but the 60s are over
c'mon, it's not that bad...unless you're pro, or REALLY trying to get there, this one won't harm, and maybe even it'll help quickstart a few talents out there... not something i'd take with my notebook/CD case when spinning, but to have some fun with my friends at home? definitely...
If this thing has sync buttons on it then that makes the pitch slider length not a problem if u have all your songs BPMs in order. Think about it.
Well that's ok if you're playing simplistic dance music and you don't mind having software do it for you I suppose :)
Most of my music confuses the hell out of Traktors BPM finder, not that it matters since I sync all mine by ear in realtime
Also because of the way vinyl works the BPM is rarely steady from anything that's been pressed, so vinyl rips tend to drift and require readjustment often
Not will it blend.. will it mix?
OK, You win
Is there a MP3 standalone player alternative that will do basic DJ operations that needs nothing other than a connection to the active speakers? Particularly I want something that will very quickly allow me to add cue markers to the loaded tracks and to jump to them very rapidly and smoothly
Yes, the 'Pacemaker' is exactly what you just described!
Hmm I'm trying to figure out if this thing is compatible with Traktor DJ. If it is then it's definitely a good buy.
It totally is, Traktor accepts control from anything that supports MIDI
I gotta admit for the price you can't beat this and it'll sure beat mixing with your mouse!
But if you're even slightly serious please consider a real controller you won't regret it :)
I just picked up the MK2 off ebay for about $130 a few months ago. I had played with Virtual DJ a lot in the past but this makes it a lot easier to do what with hardware buttons, knobs, and jog wheels.
It's not a substitute for real vinyl if you are serious enough about cutting and scratching, but for basic control on a small budget. I use it for parties and local sporting events.
I picked one of these off of eBay a few months ago. It works not bad for the casual guy goofing off at a party. I let my buddies with no DJ experience play with it and they were able to do some beatmatching with very little coaching. It's more of a toy than a serious piece of DJ gear
It does not sync with Traktor it has its own propietary software(which is similar to PCDJ Red)
