T-Mobile rolling out 3G tomorrow in New York, sorry New Jersey
Our best friends at T-Mobile are getting set to roll out 3G in New York soon -- real soon, as was previously expected. New York will launch on May 1, to be exact, according to TmoNews.com. That's, like, tomorrow. The leaked document promises T-Mobile customers the "great call quality they've come to expect...and more network availability". The rest of the network will be rolled out in 2008 to 20 markets, including Los Angeles, Detroit, San Diego, Austin, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Miami, and several more. As TmoNews.com points out, New Jersey and Long Island are mysteriously off the list. View all the launch cities after the break.

I know!!! I'm excited that Orlando's in the list too!
@b33eazy
I don't know what to say. I know my experience and the experience of people I knew differs and that's why we're all on T-mo now.
I had an ex-GF on Sprint who literally had to go outside and DOWN THE STAIRS to get a signal. Everywhere we went, the minute she stepped inside, her signal was lost. She upgraded to a new device, same problems.
For one month I switched to Helio because I wanted to check out their all-in-one plan. Had a Helio Ocean... which uses Sprint's comm and EVDO and I lost signal EVERYWHERE I went. I live in Orlando, work in Maitland, have friends in Winter Park, Altamonte, Casselberry and Oviedo and the results were always the same. I could walk through a mall and have signal go in and out. Granted, could be interference in the mall itself, but it doesn't ever happen w/ T-mo.
The number of dropped calls was ridiculous. Helio offers a 30-day guarantee and I jumped back to T-mo as fast as I could.
I won't lie... I afraid to jump from T-mo. All other carriers I've ever tried has burned me or been a huge disappointment. So that's why I stick w/ T-mo. But, I guess that's my experience, and everyone has their own.
But I'm not trying to be T-mo Fanboy here... my friends and I took a trip to Yosemite last year and 2 of us couldn't get signal w/ T-mo. But another friend on At&t had 3 bars and no problems at all!
att has a roaming agreement to thank for that.
Nice! Now I'll get to use the next gen iPhone on t-mobiles 3G network!
I wish, but I doubt that Apple will include 1700 MHz in the next gen iPhone. We who unlock iPhones for use on T-Mobile will likely be stuck with EDGE with the iPhone 2.
NJ and LI are like part of NYC it's a metro area. What are they going to do put an antenna in Manhattan or Brooklyn but block the signal from traveling to Jersey and LI?
But on another note perfect timing, it will be ready for when I return home.
Would an unlocked cingular 3125 aka HTC startrek work on Tmo's 3G network?
No. No 1700 MHz.
Great, gonna connect my n95 tomorrow, been waiting till they roll that $hit :)
gonna use it as a modem with my macbook pro. If iPhone 3G will have hot feature i might switch, till then go go go go n95 :)
Good luck!
your n95 has nothing to do with this. will still only be edge. an existing model of n95 will never work 3g on tmo
Already? We have had 3G for years in Sweden.
Wooo~ Finally, I'm actually near the Detroit Area =D
Good thing my phone upgrade is in June~
dam shame its only for voice
For those from across the pond: Most carriers in the US *do* have 3G. T-mo is the latecomer. This is NOT THE FIRST OF 3G we Americans have seen – just those of us T-mo customers.
Fucking T-mo.
Oh, BTW, if you think T-mo has good customer service: they were totally wrong about international charges recently regarding a trip to Asia. They claimed "99 cents/minute in any country anywhere". Yeah, they lied – I was getting raped for like $10 a min in China. I'm gonna let loose the FCC on their asses. And this isn't the first time they've done shit like this. Thank the gods we have a governmental entity that stands up for us... I'd be literally hundreds of dollars poorer if it weren't for the trusty ol' FCC.
Yes! High speed ...voice?!?
i just hope the sidekick that is coming out in december is 3g capable.
