Dell launches the Vostro 1510 and 1310 laptops
Just like we warned, Dell's new cheapo business laptops, the Vostro 1510 and Vostro 1310 have hit virtual shelves. The 15.4- and 13.3-inch models both feature Intel CPUs (up to Core 2 Duos), a maximum of 4GB of RAM, 80GB to 250GB hard drives, and a bunch of other features that should be totally adequate for your business affairs. The 1510 starts at $599, and the 1310 at $749; both are available now.

This is as simple as laptops can look.
Too bad they don't offer the 8600M GT card. Back in February I configured a Dell Vostro 1500 (Intel Core2Duo T7250 2ghz, 2GB ram, 15.4" XGA+ LCD with TrueLife, 160GB 7200rpm Harddrive, 2megapixel webcam, built in wifi, 8x dvd burner, 9cell battery, with windows vista basic for $770 ($500 off instant coupon from one of those deal sites like fatwallet). Not the best looking laptop in the world but its built sturdy and runs awesome.
Forgot to mention it had a 8600GT M 256mb video card as well.
Lol at the people complaining about looks. The specs sound great for the cost, but I agree it looks like shit. Apple has already figured out the secret: if you want to sell something, you better make it look good. BTW, this is coming from someone who owns both a vista desktop and a mba.
Yeah exactly. Why is it SOOO important what the laptop looks like? Are you shunned in public if you're seen using it or something? If it's ergonomically sound, gets the job done quickly and efficiently and has the connectivity that I need to have when I need it, that's more important to me than what it looks.
"Apple has already figured out the secret: if you want to sell something, you better make it look good."
Well that's not all there is to selling....Dell sells magnitudes more laptops than Apple.
Speaking of the "VOSTRO" brand, in Italy vostro means exactly "yours".. When I bought my Vostro 1700 the Italian Dell receptionist did a pun on the name.. I was thinking to hang up.. seriously...
i have the dell fongulo model myself
Someone mentioned that the new Vostros only come with one speaker. Is this true?
Thats true, the 1310 is mono. But I've never liked listening to anything on a laptop speaker. In fact, whenever someone says "Check out this hot new Jay-Z song on my laptop" I go into the fetal position and cry.
so you're saying jay z isn't for vosotros?
I like the boxy, straight-forward design. I feel like every other brand insists on including flowers or patterns or pointless squiggles all over their laptops (talking to you HP).
Macs are fine but the cheapest one you can get is $1100. Is it wrong to just want a $700 laptop? Thats a $400 frickin' dollar difference.
wow! you're right, $1100 is so TOTALLY $400 more than $700. thanks, G
Wrist device that measures repetitive movement...

Vote me down like crazy
If you're wondering i meant to comment on that mood sensor wrist device dealio
I don't know about you but I think this one looks quite good. It's black and squareish and use mostly sharp angles. What's so wrong with that design?
ewwww.
the fugliest laptop ever...
Snore. I'm obviously not the intended market, but still...wake me up when those hot new E-series Latitudes show up.
Hopefully the Dell's EEE killer is a miniaturized Vostro. You know how when big things are miniaturized they look cute? Yeah.....
Oh look, they neutered another one of their lines. First they eliminate the 8600GT option from their Inspirons and now the Vostros. Granted, it was a DDR2 8600GT, but it still had double the benchmark scores of the 8400M GS they offer now. I guess they really want to push the XPS notebooks.
I just got a 1310 in the uk for £750, 2.5Ghz Penryn, 4gb ram, 128mb 8400 and 320GB HDD, Compare that to the Macbook in the UK which is near 900 pounds, seems like a good deal. Plus the black gloss lid looks awesome and so are the capacitance buttons...
