Toshiba lets loose 13.3-inch Portege M800 laptop
Toshiba's been cranking out a pretty steady stream of laptops since the year began, and it's making sure no slacking goes on in May. Revealed today, the 13.3-inch Portégé M800 weighs in at 4.3-pounds and will be available with a white pearl finish with silver accents, not to mention the white LEDs within meant to keep things classy. Furthermore, you'll find a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T5750, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a WXGA (1,280 x 800) panel, Intel's GMA X3100 graphics set, a built-in DVD burner, three USB 2.0 ports, FireWire / VGA / headphone sockets, 802.11a/g/n WiFi, 56k modem, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth and Vista Home Premium running the show. Regrettably, there's no word on price, but you won't see this one arrive in Europe until Q3, anyway.

Very nice laptop, but for Vista anymore people are going to need at least 2 gbs of ram. I wouldn't purchase a laptop without 2gb anymore.
Then install a SODIMM? It's not that hard... and they're extremely cheap right now.
The Eee has been eating too many burgers...

This is a perfect example of why we should be able to delete our comments
Oops. I thought I clicked on just one confirmation link, but it seems both comments went up...

Hopefully this thing is cheap, because otherwise it won't have anything going for it. Can't say I really like the color scheme, CPU, RAM, or GPU.
Yeah... the color scheme is awful.
I suppose there'll be no making plans for Nigel to buy this laptop.
I was quite excited when I saw the heading in rss feed but quickly felt quite disappointed. Expected a lot more for a portege. 4.3lbs?! My Portege M200 is 4.3lbs. where's the progress :)
Neither DVI, nor HDMI or DisplayPort?
Not for me.
Is it really "Portégé" and not "Protégé?"
Seems to be, according to all the materials I see (even the screen image).
I wonder if Toshiba is trying to make a pun.
Protege is a Mazda. :D
Toshiba has had a Portege' line for many years. I actually bought one several years ago but returned it when I found out it had no internal CDROM. It was quite small so it's evident why they play on the word.
Isn't a portege when you carry your canoe?
Nope. Portage.
portage? is that the state of having ports?
Why is the T5000 series of processors still so frequently used?
I hope that RAM is a single GB board instead of two 512 MB ones. It pains me to think how many excess sodimms are being thrown out to upgrade laptops so they can actually run Vista.
"Oooh, but it has white LEDs!"
It would be nice if they took that good taste and applied it somewhere worthwhile.
That said, white LEDs are pretty :)
Uh, because it's entirely sufficient? If you're using integrated graphics, chances are that this processor should cut it for you.
While this guy was talking about Macs, it should apply pretty well to PCs, too...

That's a good article and I believe it does apply to both Mac and PC. Most people who don't game don't need any more than integrated graphics and a much lower than the latest processor. I seriously doubt that anyone using this machine is going to try playing Crysis on it. That's not what it's for.
Ooh, nice article, Andy :)
Still, it's my understanding that the 7000 series has many enhancements beyond just performance. Then again, I'm just bitter from seeing a new computer with a T2050...
Dirt Magnet
tacky silver accents for the lose.
