HP 2133 XP configurations get priced
HP's Mini-Note 2133 is due to get all-new Windows XP configurations this month, and it looks like early pricing details are starting to leak out. If the numbers are accurate, a base 1.2GHz rig with 1GB of RAM and a 120GB disk will run you $729, and bumping things up to 1.6GHz, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB disk will set you back $819. That's pretty steep -- but remember, early pricing info on the currently-available models was a tiny bit off, so these numbers could change when these hit sometime next week.

hmmmm.... pricing could be off and could change next week... i remember when the eee pc's price was a bit off to at $200-$300 range when first announced...
ethana2 @ May 9th 2008 3:49AM
That's a premium I'm not willing to pay for tiny.
C2D : 1 GB RAM : 120 GB SATA 5400 rpm HDD : webcam : dual mic : 1440x900 LCD : nVidia GeForce Go 8400GS : bluetooth : 56 WHr Li-ion : Ubuntu 7.10 w/ Corel LinDVD
$800.
ethana2 @ May 9th 2008 3:54AM
Note that the nVidia card is + $100, and the 1400x900 LCD is +$30.
Windows tax comes right off the top.
Ok, maybe that's not much of a premium.... What can I say, I'm an Ebenezer.
I suppose the linux option for this thing came first so I have nothing to complain about really. No one's going to make me buy one..

Jesus, man, come on. Don't start the "I COULD GET A FULL SIZED LAPTOP, WHY WOULD I GET THIS?" argument...
It's so, so, so tired.
Conor Maher @ May 9th 2008 4:04AM
lololololol $800
Syliss @ May 9th 2008 4:20AM
Well at least now there will be xp drivers!!
ahdok @ May 9th 2008 4:37AM
Steep? That's about the same as the macbook air in terms of specs.
Erny Setyawati @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:29AM
Hoo hoo !
Too expensive, but good job for Dell. We are sure, people will look for the product.

Am I missing somthing here or couldnt you just buy the Vista version and use your OEM version downgrade rights to load XP Pro for $749 ?
pvanderh @ May 9th 2008 10:07AM
thats what i plan on doing. I have the Vista Business 1.6ghz 2gig ram model. If all the drivers are available for download i'm going to downgrade.
mdm-adph @ May 9th 2008 11:11AM
Nope, that's just MS's way of making the Vista version more likely to be bought so that, even if you downgrade, they still get to claim a Vista sale.
Sevil Natas @ May 9th 2008 1:36PM
I had a chat session with a sales rep just before I put my order in for the 1.6GHz, 2GB Vista model and he assired me that once the XP model was out, one can downgrade to XP for free. I've got the chat log just in case. (as if that really means anything.
The other thing the rep mentioned was that the Mini-Note was a day away from going into 60 day backorder. I had already told him I would be ordering as soon as I got off chat with him, so I don't think that was a sales pressure move.

I'd like to see this in the stores. The people at Dixons (UK) and Best Buys (Austin, TX) told me they were unlikely to receive them at all.

I paid $749 for my Vista Business version. Boots kind of slow but once it does it is quite snappy. Why anyone would pay an extra $70 to revert to XP is beyond me.

Dont spam us with your website you dick
Rick @ May 9th 2008 9:08AM
1. Joe, ease up on Bob.
2. The price seems OK to me. I want a sub 3-pound small laptop to carry on trips. I don't want to spend >$2,000 on a Sony, Fujitsu, Lenovo, or Toshiba.
everunman @ May 9th 2008 8:42AM
More money for an older OS?, people are not that stupid!
Howard @ May 9th 2008 9:31AM
I hear they're also launching a Windows Me version in June for only $909.
LarryLarryLarry @ May 10th 2008 3:03AM
You made me do a spit take.
gmoran125 @ May 9th 2008 9:36AM
XP drivers are already available here:

Because demand has been so high, they may be increasing the price. The things have been back-ordered since launch. That said, unless they're increasing prices across the lineup I don't think these are the final prices.

I'm quite annoyed that this seems to be the best UMPC to type on, but it's near the Cloudbook in performance.
The Via C7 is NOT a good back-for-the-buck!
Considering the fact that the backlight and screen will eat up significant battery life and the processor has to run at double the clock of a Celeron M to get the same(if that?) performance; the battery life claims are moot.
Considering every Emacs on Eee review I've read has been positive (at least one user claiming the smaller keyboard was an IMPROVEMENT), I feel no anxiety choosing an Eee over this.
She's a sexy looking little bugger, though.
Ninjakamster (PSN: Chin-Poh) @ May 9th 2008 10:36AM
Agreed with all your points, this UMPC really needs to dump the Via, even use the same 900mhz Celeron from the EEE.
conor @ May 9th 2008 2:59PM
they were guna put in Isiah but in ran late i am waiting for it to buy mine it better than atom and celeron
Evan Acosta @ May 9th 2008 1:12PM
Ok, first off the model in the picture looks different than the one I have. The switches have been moved. Secondly!!! All who are interested in this computer. If you are going to buy it, only buy the configuration for the Processing power. Everything else can be EASILY upgraded!!!!! Check it!! http://www.gamersxx.com/HP2133
YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!!!

WARNING! The premium 1.6Ghz version which ships only with the 6-cell battery (and must because of the drain) is 2 inches thick! Disregard the HP 1.05" specs which are false, it is 2" thick because they designed the hinge poorly in the back which then forced them to provide a battery that goes down instead of back or the screen would not fully open (returned it last week laughing -- HP engineers need not submit their resumes to Apple).
isaiah @ May 10th 2008 1:57PM
actually, ive got the hp pavillion dv6000, and the battery goes down, not back. i much prefer it to the variety that goes back, its nice for typing on a table with, and it fits better into most bags
GadgetBee @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:56PM
I like small PC's. Well done Hp. I have a similar story at mygadget website http://www.mygadgetbee.com
Thanks
