Philips working on a 3-inch touchscreen Xenium X-Connect?
A couple things you should know about this purported Philips Xenium X-Connect before churning your gadget juices through the emotional Osterizer. First, it's clearly a product rendering. Second, Philips Xenium cellphones are primarily found in Asia Pacific region -- as such, a European or North American launch is likely out of the question. If the X-Connect is the real-deal, however, here's what we'll be missing: Windows Mobile 6, 3G UMTS/HSDPA radios, GPS receiver, AA/AAA battery backup, microSD slot, and Bluetooth 2.0 all powered by a 624MHz Intel processor beneath a 3.0-inch (presumably touchscreen) display. Still, as a broadly positioned "communication device," maybe we'll see Philips reach out to different geographies this time around.
Update: Oh snap, this thing sure looks like the Xenium 800.

Hi Dr. Nick!

AA/AAA battery backup
Does that mean i just can use AA or AAA batteries with it?
Without any dongles or packs clipped onto it?
if so, i want one.
We need more stuff that works on standart batteries.
Jack @ May 13th 2008 6:50AM
I think it means you can run it in an emergency or about 20 - 30 mins off a couple of AAAs if your battery fails and you dont have the ability to charge it
Jeff @ May 13th 2008 11:37AM
that's a joke, right?
AAA battery backup? ...
Vonn64 @ May 13th 2008 5:16AM
Battery technology is still bad.. :/
Darwin @ May 13th 2008 5:21AM
You won't be missing much. Philips phones are junk.
ethana2 @ May 13th 2008 5:22AM
here's what we'll be missing: Windows
Why that's odd! I haven't missed it once!

Things to avoid if you don't want to be accused of ripping off the iPhone:
* Black front fascia
* Chrome bezel
Philips scores on neither of these points...
Esat Dedezade @ May 13th 2008 7:20AM
*Sigh*

Things Philips shouldnt worry about :
Accusations of having an appearance similiar to the iPhone
People judging their product by its facial similarities to the iPhone
Things Philips should be worried about :
Making a great phone!

hello
fgpx78 @ May 13th 2008 6:29AM
It seems quite pretty. Let's see how it will work.

The iPone is not that revolutionary or unique in design. It is just heavily marketed
I have a 2005 Dell Axim X51. Most of the times I use it in public, people ask me if it’s an iphone.
The iphone was not the first touchscreen device and not the last!
Janvier @ May 13th 2008 7:02AM
Are they blind?
TareX @ May 13th 2008 6:33AM
It looks really nice, a lot more professional than the iPhone, I must add.
All it needs now is a decent looking UI.
Husar @ May 13th 2008 7:15AM
If these things become available soon, and have decent features (other than those displayed) i would probably go and get one, to me it looks like one of the best phone designs on the market.
Though hvnt used a phone with windows, hopefully it aint as bad as many people say... whats the blackberry use as an os anyway?
ntw1103 @ May 13th 2008 7:41AM
ha, I saw that and thought it was a scanner.
Jeff @ May 13th 2008 11:41AM
i did too. :)
then i thought "wait, touchscreen scanner.... 3 inch what?"
kuthippie @ May 13th 2008 9:54PM
one remark...
...It's just that philips sold it's cellphone devision to some asian company that was given the right to sell shit under the philips name for like a year or so (from now)....
...So a lot of asian l'odeur wiil be be on this phone...
(not saying this is a bad bad thing...cuz philips sucked at cellphones).
